How to Update your New Passport with Immigration

- If you receive a new passport, and you currently hold a visa (if you are onshore or offshore), you will need to update your passport with immigration. Your visa is simply assigned to your new passport electronically.

Hi Nick, great video! I am applying for a RRV for my kids. Their passports are different from when we first got their visas in 2012. When we apply for their RRVs, can we just apply with the new passports or will that trigger some kind of mismatch from the original application, etc? There does not seem to be any way to update their information online as when I log on, it is just my name etc.. Hope this make sense--thanks for your time! :)

The layout in the Immi portal is a bit different - there's no menu on the left initially. You can expand your visa section on the right first, and then there is a small Update Details link beneath it once you expand the section. Or if you click the title of the visa you go into the next detail screen which has the menu on the left as you show on the video.Took me a moment to see it, so might be worth updating the vid or description

Great video Nick , I am in a bit of Dilemma. PR 189 was granted using Egyptian passport while i was UK Permanent resident .Soon after i became British citizen, tried to update my passport, received email advising against linking my PR to UK passport as dual national to avoid difficulties travelling to Australia. I am however concerned because renewing my Egyptian passport will be prohibitively difficult given the length of time i have been away from the country. Been advised to use cancelled isntead of new/expired and that should go ok , any advise will be greatly appreciated

Hello All, I just went through the Immi Portal and followed the above steps. In my case it was a lost passport. I did not received the email straight away., I receieved it after 2 working days. Hope this helps :)

Hi Nick, do the new passport need to be certified. Or, we can just scan or upload the biopage of passport as it is.

I have recently received a new passport as my previous one was going to expire. Accordingly, I updated my passport details via my ImmiAccount 2 months ago, but I can't seem to use my new passport number to enter VEVO. The old one still works however. Could you assist me in this regard?
I would recommend contacting immi. The new passport number should be show up under VEVO
Hi Nick, thanks for your video. On logging into my Immi account I can't seem to find the same menus that you have in your video and I've looked through every dropdown menu on the website. Given that this video was uploaded in 2021, is it possible that the 'Update Details' button been moved elsewhere since then?

If no updated grant letter is issued for my MCV, there will be a discrepancy with the passport numbers when compared to the transit visa (at least on paper). Will that represent a problem?

I have an enquiry I recently got my new passport and started the Working Holiday visa process with it, I'm currently waiting for Home Affairs response, pretty sure that I'll get the visa 🥳. However, during a tourism trip I got a souvenir stamp on one of my passport pages. I'm afraid that if I keep this passport it could get rejected once I arrive to Australia, would you recommend to get a new one in order to not have any problems on the future? Hi there, my passport was damaged so I got a new one. I submitted an application on my current Visa to update the detail. After 2 days, I can see that the VEVO shows the new passport info. However, I cannot use this new passport to apply for a new visa using ImmiAccount while using the old passport work. What should I do?

If your previous/expired passport had the work visa in it and you've received your new passport, can you not work in the country until you've transferred it to your new passport? And what if your passport has expired but your embassy is still processing your new passport? What happens then?

How it works with dependent applicants? Is it possible to create another immi account where each dependent applicant will have an access to only own visa part, or sharing entire application is the only option?

Same issue here if you go through you will see all aplicant main as well as dependent applicant in scrolling..Then simply update that's it don't need to create another account for dependent.
They should be able to update it through the main applicants imim portal

Hi, it should definitely update instantly. Be sure to check that the passport details are correct and that the visa has not expired.

Just found it myself mate.. click on your PR application and once it expands on the right at the bottom you'll see 'Update details'
@@Adam-wq9wq Still not there, I think it only appears if you have submitted an application through the portal previously. At the moment, as there is no submitted applications, it doesn't show it.
When reasons for changin passport information is made, immi portal does not have the option for having changed the citizenship and got passport from new citizenship. If not available, what reason should be selected?

@@crystalchan2447 you can check if your details have been updated here online.immi.gov.au/evo/firstParty?actionType=query. You can enter your new passport number and see if it matches with the aus immigration records.

Yes mate , same boat , I uploaded a new passport from the new country of citizenship, I mistakenly used -expired/new - as I believe should have chosen cancelled for the old passport. I then received advice against changing my passport details as dual national I should keep original passport
