In 1964, I bought my first shotgun with money I made from my paper route. Mine was a Stevens Model 77F in 16 gauge. This was the cheapest shotgun that the gun shop had when I went to buy it. I really wanted an Ithaca Model 37 in 16 gauge, but at 13 years old, the Stevens was all I could afford. The shotgun served me well until I graduated college and got a job. Then in 1974 I got my Ithaca 37, but in 12 gauge because Ithaca had dropped the 16 gauge from their lineup. I don't think the Stevens was quite $25, but I know it less than 1/2 the price of the Ithaca. BTW, I still have the Stevens as well as the Ithaca and they both function perfectly.

My grandfather gave me one of these when I was young. Worst idea EVER. I have fired hundreds of firearms, even old M1 Garands as similar with insane amounts of kick. I have never had a gun kick as much as my Viking. As a full-grown man I still only shoot it 2 to 3 times before switching to another weapon because it's SO bad on recoil 🤣. Almost brings me to tears.

I have one of these, kicks like a mule. The reason it’s getting hung up on racking is probably because the firing pin is sticking. Eventually mine got so bad that it would just stay extended…I had to run something down the barrel to shove it back in. I’d like to find a replacement part since it was my grandfathers gun but haven’t been able to.
