Slugs are no joke. I had a large group of does walk up a treeline on the last day of season. Picked out the two biggest gals in the group and fired a shot with a 20g Hornady SST out of a Savage 220. It was a 200 yard shot. Dropped her where she stood. Went to chamber another slug to hopefully fill out both tags, ended up being too much time fumbling with the bolt since it was my first season using a bolt action slug gun. Went to harvest her and realized there was another pool of blood further behind where she lay. Took me a second to realize in that big group there must have been a doe behind the one I shot that I didn't see. Followed the blood trail and sure enough, the slug passed thru the first, hit the doe behind her and passed clean thru her too, although leaving a few bits of the jacket behind. Been hunting with that bad boy ever since.

In lower Michigan the shotgun has been the main weapon for deer hunting until recent years. I have a 12 ga. Mossberg 600akt (simular to the 500) smoothbore shotgun with iron sights. I have shot many deer around the 150-175 yard range on our farm with just plain standard 2 3/4" 1 oz. slugs. The farthest I shot a buck with it was 200 yards. Been hunting since the 1980's. Love iron sights. "Country boy can survive"
Wow. Never shot a slug at anything over 50 yards. Yes 1 oz slugs are fun. We've blown up old appliances, car doors, and even a pickup bed. I'm pretty sure we used my Mossberg 500 to blow up a junk computer! That was a fun way to fix the blue screen error for good 😉

My Remington 870 Express Magnum 20 Ga.with a 21" fully rifled barrel shooting 3" sabot "slugs" is an incredibly effective multipurpose weapon for "varmints." It will drop a 180 lb. Whitetail in it's tracks at 150 yards. With my 20" smooth bore barrel installed shooting various sizes of buckshot is an effective home defense weapon. My 20 Ga. Magnum pump with 2 barrels and a one piece extended 7 round magazine covers the bases really well and my slug barrel has a 2-7x32mm scope. Shooting @230 yds. Is a piece of cake. Since acquiring my Rem. 870 Magnum I have not hunted Whitetails with my 30-30 levergun. I am 71 years old and only hunt whitetails. I do plan to get another 870 20 ga. and shorten the stock, swap out the magazine to a one piece 7 rounder to use as an easily carried self defense weapon that provides excellent "stopping" power. The selling point for me is that all Rem. 870's have a steel reciever. It is my opinion that firearms are made from steel. Not Aluminum Alloy or Polymers. I am "Old Scool."
Shotguns are probably some of the most underestimated weapons in the world. Even though they're much more accurate and can shoot 230 yards when loaded with slugs, a bunch of pistol and rifle fanboys (usually CoD fanboys) hate on shotguns, because when it comes to shotguns, they can only think of shotguns loaded with pellets.
What about cut-shell ammo bros? I've seen videos in which they did the same stuff as slugs - 1 entry hole only - up to 20m. Tales say they've been used to hunt down elks and bears which require much longer distance than that. However in reality I've never seen any one did it at longer range, 50m is fine, so I really hope you guys get any info on this...
Garrett - in open field combat you very well could be right but in close quarters combat i.e clearing houses/caves a shotgun with 00 buck and magnum load is mean. Slugs up close are viscious also.

Amazing. This dude just has a good energy.
Sam Elliot 😊
Wow...long range consistent hits with a shotgun. Seeing is believing. Mr 45 can really shoot.
Frost two shots same hole, and notice that he didn't flinch at all on the dry fire. That's so vital on precision shooting. Focus and smooth pull. I'm actually a way better shot because of this man
Excellent filming and editing. Hickock you are a hero to gun owners all over the world. May God continue to bless us with your presence.
Ps I’ve always thought if I could have only one gun it would have to be a shotgun - very versatile
Shotguns are like your multitool. They can do literally anything. Short range, AR-15 range, and if your really good you can snipe 200 yards+. Ammo is also really easy to get
@@burningcoal5705 AND they can load anything that fits in the bore. Spare change? Rock salt? _Gum? Frozen pykrete? Rusty nails? _*_Nuts, bolts, and washers?_* Yep, all that and more; because of the smooth inner surface and low pressure of shotgun shells, these beauties are literal hand cannons that will eat ANYTHING small enough.
TAOFLEDERMAUS has quite a history with weird custom loads that are nevertheless terrifyingly effective.
Standing position, 230 yards, with irons... I'd be happy with this group out of a rifle, let alone a shotgun!
Come to Ohio we shoot like this all the time I'm not surprised it's all we can hunt with till recently
You must not shoot very often then. 230 yards is a feat with a shotgun and slugs, not a rifle.
Guy dates the daughter and hickok 45 is like bring her back by 10, (shoots slug 260 yards and hits gong) guy is like i will have her back by 8
🤣🤣🤣
I would imagine that the guy would be shaking like a leaf and frequently checking the time during the date with the daughter.
His daughter properly 6'4" n everyone she dated are 5'6"
He'll the way he shoots I would have back at 6.00. He probably chaperones the date, wearing a Smith & Wesson model -29 44 mag.. he carries
Date gets canceled cause he just wants to shoot guns with hickok!
I know it's a older video but...That's "Impressive"!!! THANKS for showing the "Range and Accuracy" of the 12ga! So much for the "I heard, been told a shotgun is close range, the slug will drop, not good over 75 yds, useless over a 100 yds..etc" I like the Cut Shell's, low base 7 1/2 shot 12ga. Wicked round for sure but have only a 80 yard shooting range to test on. Clean hole through a 55 gal drum👍 My grandpa taught me that referring to cut shells as "hard time slugs, depression slugs and a deer slug". Thanks again, that's awesome👌 Glad I came across this✨
Holy shit that went through the drum at 230 yards impressive
Dude I can bust cender block with my removable choaked smooth bore. and a rifeld slug in a Mossberg
mod 88. You would be very impressed with them tipes of video
@Thomas Olson "Get some attention going on to your spelling." You are berating someone on their grammar, by posting this gibberish??
@@Yoyosten99 i always figured slugs were to heavy to be effective at that range. Guess I was wrong
Jamie Lancaster Well yeah it did a 1oz slug traveling 1700fps give or take 100fps at 230 yards or 690 feet.
I swear the only reason that one hit low was so that he could see if he was hitting the target!!! This guy is a BEAST!!!
i watched this video almost ten years ago and watched it again 12/15 2020. i hope Hickok is around when i watch it ten more years from now. thanks ol man. we love you.
"Not bragging"? By god at 230 yd holding that tight a pattern I will brag for you. You are sir an inspiration.
Why was this recommended to me 9 years later?
Better late than never
David Shaw Alright.
13 yearling for me☠️
Love his message of "life's really good"; Thanks Hickok.
That's great shooting! I love watching you shoot. Thanks for all the videos that you make. Thanks also for explaining how you used the sights to make the shot. Very impressive. Keep up the good work. Your son never gets enough credit for his camera work. You guys make a great team!
hahaha there is that chicken i can never hit xD ''kicks it down''
hickok i want to thank you for all the countless videos you have made for us :) shotgun smooth-bore sniping :D
Mr 45. Love the videos, great topics and love seeing real world demonstrations. Learned alot in this one, never thought a smooth bore would go so long, gives me ideas for my marlen goose gun. Great shooting keep it up.
You can brag all you want on that one, you deserve it! It is called lots of hard work practice
I’m very Impressed, he did that off hand, he would have been Lethal in Combat.
whenever i see him shoot i think the same thing. this guy is McNasty with any type of weapon! damn surgeon i tell yah
He never served
hickok45--> I would not want to downstream of your firearm! It would be curtains for anyone trying to challenge you in a gun fight. You are a man's man when it comes to shooting. Love your videos, both yours and your son. God bless.
Nice aiming trick, learned something new today, I'll have to try it.
“I don’t like pistol grips on shotguns”
Benelli: 🦗🦗
I don’t know if anybody noticed, but his second shot went through the same hole. Amazing, make sure he gets this message if y’all didn’t see that rewind it and watch it again.
Wow, new respect for the smoothbore.
If I were limited to one gun, it would be a 12ga.
right on brother! me too! and many people don't know it,but for home defense or close range, #4 shot will stop anything or anybody in their tracks. of course, I use a slug or buckshot for deer.
+Josie Wales Shotgun is the most versatile weapon ever made. You can use birdshot,buckshot,slugs....only gun that can hunting all game from flying birds and running rabbits to wild boars, and also maximum stopping power for self defence.
Personally I'd take a 20. Now I just got a Savage 24J-DL .22mag/20ga, and I think that might be the one gun that can do everything.
where would a fellow find these adaptors that you speak of? and, wouldnt they hurt the barrel?
JOKER where could a feller find those adaptors in which you speak of?
Folks, that was some miraculous marksmanship right there! 690 feet, and he made a nice group on a desktop? I can't believe how much steam those slugs still had on them at that distance! Those holes look like they were shot at point blank. I figured that sighting technique of his out as a kid with a BB gun! It has served me well aiming firearms. Thanks for all the great video, H45!
Your shooting ability always amazes me! Open sights with a smooth bore shotgun and putting them on target - amazing shooting at 230 yards!
You should do more long range reverse angle shots, I like hearing the gunshots in the distance and the impacts up close, interesting way of mixing things up.
Wow I’m impressed! Never would’ve thought a slug could be so accurate thanks !!
How R U hickok45 what a great shot when I got back from Iraq I really was not looking to watch someone shooting but I'm a paralyzed vet now and been looking at online videos to learn how and what cheep weapon (s) I could use to protect my family and me I came across yours. Big Thanks for all shooting and protecting lessons you give
Simper fi Sir
WHEAT H brother we pray for you and yours. I got your 6. Just remember your still the wepon. The gun is just a tool.
Thank you for your service brother
Thank you brother for your service.
I hope you're doing alright with life I'm sure it doesn't mean much but thank you for putting this country ahead of everything you're a true hero
Thank you for your service,
The man hit the same hole at least three times on that drum. He may not be hitting exactly where he is aiming but that's still the best grouping you can get.
THANK YOU...I Just learned that at 230 yds. the slug and sound of travel are almost equal..... love the channel, keep up the great work..
never seen Hickok's place in Winter. still lots of fun.
The shot grouping on the table looks a lot like the constellation Rangis Masteris...Ive seen it in the night skies over Kentucky from time to time
it keeps that blue moon company.
Cue the Twilight Zone music! lol
That was a fun way to fix the blue screen error for good 😉
I have shot slug guns in 12 gauge that would hold a palm sized group at 100 meters with iron rifle sights . 5 shot groups . The best I ever shoot was a older Winchester pump labeled " Winchester Repeating Arms Company , Winchester proof Steel. Police / Military - Riot - . 18 inch smooth bore with nice rifle sights . Kicked like a mule !
That's one great way to fix a BSOD! I'll bet it was satisfying!
That's what I blast fat sows in my truck with !
I really do appreciate these older videos with the Super 90. Love to see it some more--gorgeous gun.
Idk if you'll see this considering the thousands of comments you must get each day, but ive been watching the channel for a couple years now... and Nick- it's days like these that you'll cherish and hand down the stories to the family youngsters. Just a son and his dad Goin shooting tables in the snow. Something special
This is what routine shooting gets you. Practice hones your skills.
“Life’s really good” love it
This old man is living the life. I really wish one day I can retire and just make videos like him.
That is ridiculously impressive. Nice shooting.
"There's that chicken I can never hit." (Kicks it over.) Lovely!
Lesson here is, you don't want to get into a long range gun fight with Hickok45.
Me to my boys: why are you watching hours of other kids playing video games? That's not fun!
Also me: Binge watching hickok45 living the life.

I don't even have to watch your videos to like them. I just automatically press the "thumbs up" icon.
Gotta love Hickock! I love to shoot but the child like glee he experiences while on the range is something I have admired about him since the very first video of his I watched. His skill with all types of firearms is admirable,as well!
this guy is pretty awesome.
your damn right he is
Thanks for explaining where you aligned the sights. I'd have seriously overestimated the drop and would be shooting way over the target.
"I'm not bragging" It's not bragging if it's true. Mr. Hickok you can brag all you want, you are that good...
Correction Hikock. If we had a Smooth Bore, Iron Sight, Shotgun with Slugs and a Hikock45 shooting it we would be safe from terrorist sniping at us from 230yards.
I'd like to know who the 68 people who disliked this video are? Don't hate on the Hickok!
? Don't know great vid.
Justin Bieber fans and felons that can’t possess firearms.
Theyre Jealous people who cant believe he did it
"Tree-huggers" and Globalists (one in the same), obviously.
Jealous of his shooting
You don't want to mess with this dude. Holy crap. That is AWESOME shooting. 👍🇺🇸
Quit saying your not bragging. You are and you have a right to BRAG about THAT shooting . That is just amazing shooting. You should be proud. 😀
Paul Spears
You can't brag on a fact. You can only point at it.
You put 2 slugs through the barrel to the right of the target. 2 in the same hole.
SAME F#CKING HOLE. 230 yards.
yea i saw that also
Wow!
The Zoniel Zone ive shot all sorts of configurations and nothing beats a slug going down range from a good pump action
"00" buckshot look out.
Zone of Zoniel also the cod crowd thinks that pellets spread far faster than i reality.
Garrett - in open field combat you very well could be right but in close quarters combat i.e clearing houses/caves a shotgun with 00 buck and magnum load is mean. Slugs up close are viscious also.
Thank you for explanation on how you aim at long range, and where you hold the sight. There's alot of misleading videos where people basically aim for the clouds 😎 (or hold over).
Keep up the good work.
P.S.
That chicken had it coming 😎
Hickok 45 Has become a Legend, a Real straight Shooter...
“Deadeye” Hickock45!!!
" heres that chicken I can never hit"..then kicks it over... hahaha awsome
6:23
That'll teach that chicken!!!
The sound of the Connecticut woods of my childhood where deer were routinely hunted with shotguns and slug cartridges..in fact maybe only shotguns in some parts..I . Cant remember...but THAT is the sound, for sure. Another thought that occurs to me must be about the potential accuracy of muskets. 200 years ago and more in those same woods..perhaps all due back to superb gun smithing and real attention to the making of the musket balls themselves. Enjoyed this video...see it is 10 years old! Thanks for making and uploading.Oh...and Where IS this exactly?...LATER EDIT....It's Tennessee! Good stuff
Who would think that you can shoot a 12 gauge smooth bore shotgun with solid round, accurately at 230 yards?
