  • Watch the World(s). A Second Life Machinima by Robbie Dingo. (Duration 4'17") "Frameless heads on nameless walls, with eyes that watch the world and can't forget - like the strangers that you've met". [Don McLean]. Ever looked at your favorite painting and wished you could wander inside, to look at it from different perspectives? Spend a single day in one of mine, from early sunrise on a new day, to dusk when lights come on in cosy homes; through a peaceful night, till morning. Shot on location in Second Life then post-produced, this was an idea I had a while ago. The Sim in this work was on temporary loan so it's all been swept away now, leaving only the film behind. It was always intended however that the video would be the end product, not the build. This work is dedicated to the many weird and very wonderful strangers from around the globe I have met, but have never really met.

Every so often I come back to this video and remember the hey day of SL and of the truly talented people who once were there.

+Mike Weiner Try it again - a lot of them are coming back. I got this URL from a meeting I just attended, of librarians working and doing great things, both in SL and in other VRs.

I'll go back when LL end their policy of favored pricing to the select sim owners. I had 19 sims and LL raised tier on Homesteads to a point where you couldn't make money on it (from $75/mo. to $125)...except the largest sim owners. They still paid $75....drove all the best sim owners out of business and LL created the beginning of the end of SL and never had anyone smart enough to figure it out.

I remember when I watched this video for the first time, more than 10 years ago in my earlier SL. Often coming back to watch it again, and even adding this song to my playlists. Yesterday I visited the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and, even thought it has been many years since the last time I watch this video, these images and the feeling I got from it, was in my head the whole time I enjoyed the exposition. So I had to watch it again! Thank you for this beautiful piece or art!

I visited the sim when this was first made. It changed both my second life and real life. I became a creator that made a living for years….from seeing the beauty that was possible to create and share. I return every so often to watch this. The memories flood back. Thank you.

I was just going to say "I came back often to re-view this video" and realised so do many others! Great work.
Every so often I get a chance to share it with online groups, etc. so, I am very pleased it is still available. I've never forgotten it.

Fourteen years later and I still have to come back around to watch this from time to time. What a remarkable labor of love that showed the kind of art that was possible in SL and nowhere else.

Gosh, I remember seeing this for the first time, not long after I had joined SL something like 10 years ago now... I've returned many times to watch it again, and often sent friends the link. It is an amazing piece of work to conceive of this, then use these various techniques to bring it to fruition. A masterpiece in its own right.

@happmacdonald the concept of building worlds and dreams existed long before the film, as did this machinama.
but i catch your drift. Inception was an amazing film, i just think that this video should be recognised for its own structure.

Before MEGA-PRIMS -- looks like he needed to offset the sky texture in hundreds of prims ?
Sad that there isn't an OAR copy ( like Opensimulator) of the sim.
There was also a memorable timelapse of someone building a guitar. I wonder if that's on RUclips?
