    Lol best video from hundreds of zipper fixes.
    I was trying to search for this replacement but didn't knew specific words, and here comes boiii and showed us how to perfectly replace the "Box".
    Very thankfull. It would cost me about 30€ in service .

      Angela Thomas yeah, I rode last season with it. It’s not perfect, but it works pretty well. Just gotta make sure that sure you mount the free side deep into the zipper box to align the teeth.

  • @RubadubBub

    Just wondering, did you cut the pin off or pull it out of the box? The ones I bought look like it's all one piece.

    • @krisjaynav

      It's a soft metal, so I took some pliers, gripped the pin and bent it back and forth till it came off.

      @@RubadubBubI had big pliers which gave me leverage, also most electrical pliers have a wire cutting portion next to their hinge that might help sever that part of the zipper box. I say just make sure the zipper box and slider are about the same width. It's also important that the zipper box is pretty darn snug on the non-zipper side. Good luck

    I know this is a video from over 4 years ago. Is this still holding up? I have a beloved hoodie that I pulled from the dryer and I have the slider part but the pin and retainer box are gone. I can't find them anywhere. I look on Google and Amazon and it's overwhelming as I don't understand any of it. The only reason I knew it was a pin and retainer box is because there are repair kits on Amazon and it tells you what is not included in the kit; the pin and the retainer box. I don't know where to buy Shoe Goo. What type of tools did you use? I'm asking so I can ask my dad if he has these tools in his possession. I know which video you are talking about on RUclips. It was one of the highest seen videos and saying you cannot repair it and you're basically SOL. My hoodie is not only a favorite but also cost me about $75 and it supports a foundation that means the world to me. I'm searching for alteration places in my area and out where my folks live and I'm not seeing such good reviews and I don't know if they could replace the zipper which might be more expensive. Any more details you can provide as to why all you used would be helpful and I will see if I can get my dad involved.

      I moved away from the little ski town I lived in so I only got 2 seasons of use with my jacket. snowboard jackets have thick zippers. it was a little trial and error matching a zipperbox to the existing zipper slide. shoe goo is just a semi flexible adhesive.. kinda like siliconeish rubber cement. I used pliers I had in the house, I modified the new zipper box... I was just trying to get the new zipper box onto the jacket and aligned the best way I could. the goo was just what I had in house and it adheres to cloth material good enough.

    yea, you're not doing the pressing that the machine does...you should have crimped it good with your pliers on top of the glue...
    what you broke off is what you slid your original zipper pin is...the piece you slid in the box
    normally, the box is pressed thru with a rivet to keep it on the pin, if you look close, that pin is crimped on where the tape is at the end of the zipper

    • @krisjaynav
      @krisjaynav  6 лет назад +3

      Nice...yea but that's why that one guy from the US zipper (can something?) Has that video where he's like "you cant do it...blah blah" bc its a machine pressed thing, good work though, should at least keep kinda workin...imma get a sewing machine to help me put new zippers in, they aint that expensive, good work

  • @comm2531

    Bro, you don't glue it in place. You crimp it

    • @krisjaynav
      @krisjaynav  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks, I tried that but its a solid piece. I would’ve had to use hydraulic press to get the compression I needed. Perhaps you could show me how you did it. As a novice, I kind of just tried to figure it out with tools and stuff laying around

    • @comm2531
      @comm2531 5 лет назад +1

      @@krisjaynav I haven't tried it yet but I don't see why one would need a hydraulic machine to press cheap fragile hardware. Why did it come off in the first place if they pressed them so good? My box end stop came off so I tried to separate the box head to reattach it and it just snapped apart. Broke. So I ordered new ones. Waiting for it. I also saw the video that you can't fix those but I disagree. A good crimp gives you lots of psi application. Maybe use good pliers. I doubt glue holds metal to fabric. My jacket zipper is small probably 3mm so with sausage fingers, will be a bitch. One thing. Mine is metal. Plastic probably different animal and not repairable.

    • @krisjaynav
      @krisjaynav  5 лет назад +2

      Amphib Aav yeah you’re probably right. the Zipper box I used was solid brass and didn’t have much room for manipulation. Your approach may be better. Let me know how it goes.

    • @krisjaynav
      @krisjaynav  4 года назад

      thanks for the feedback. I'd like think I'm mechanically inclined with a background in welding, but with the zipper box being modified and with the metal material it was composed of, it was not able to be crimped. I had to anchor the zipper box somehow and I grabbed whatever industrial adhesive I had lying around. My simple goal was to get the jacket functioning on the mountain, which it has been for the last couple of snowboard seasons. I shot this for the hope of helping others out, perhaps you could share with us or make a tuturial and how you went about doing it? I guess this problem is pretty common so I think people could benefit from better approaches.

    And as for "unfixable" - a quick search on Amazon reveals a ton of retainer boxes and insertion pins, so obviously this is a "fixable" problem.

      @@krisjaynav Well, then I stand corrected in your case. I have not had good luck with ShoeGoo I guess. And that was actually all I was commenting on - just skepticism about the ShoeGoo.
      As for the second part of my comment, it was actually directed at those who say it can't be fixed (as you were). Obviously it can, since the parts are available and you did it! :-) I wasn't clear about that in my original comment.
      But I do understand why a repair shop would not want to mess with this type of fix. A fix like this cannot be guaranteed for workmanship, so they would rather take the easy, reliable way out and simply replace the entire zipper.
      Luckily I only have to replace an insertion pin (not the box thankfully), so I'll be fixing the support material and then simply crimping a new pin on it at the bottom of the zipper. Not sure if I'll use Shoe Goo, but certainly Superglue.

      Sorry about the video quality I put this up years ago not thinking anyone would watch it. For me I just bought a set on Amazon it might have searched jacket repair...I'm unsure they still have the same listing. It came with multiple pieces and just found the ones closest to the original and kept the zipper insertion pin snug (super important to keep then zip secure). The one I used might have been slightly smaller than the original. Good luck

    • @RubadubBub
      @RubadubBub Год назад

      @@krisjaynav Thanks for that. Your repair is by far the best of all those I have seen. Good zippers will have the size marked on the underside of the various pieces. Some of the cheaper Chinese pieces seem to have no markings at all. I'm still hunting on ebay as they're almost impossible to find in Australia. Luckily my jacket has press studs as well as a zipper, but they also prevent me from being able to replace the whole zip. :-( best regards from downunder.
