A newbie to warriors here and I must say this is what I needed. Will recommend to anyone who will be interested in this topic. U are a blast man good job 😎
Finally a current video for WotLK!!! First time warrior tank here and I will be watching this 2 or 3 times on my way to and from work lol. Thank you greatly!
Man thanks so much I bought a boosted 70 war. I wanna tank and dps to help make groups but no one made a good tank well yours is amazing you took the anxiety of wanting to do great and trust your warrior. Appreciate your time.thanks.🙏
THATS HOW WE DO IT, THATS HOW WE THROW, THATS HOW WE GET DOWN!!!!! Great video, my man. Straight to the point, no BS. Enjoyed the hell out of it, thanks!
Thank you so much for this video bro! Always been a dps in WoW but wanted to tank for buddies and my brother this time around. Forgot dps can be dicks about not knowing proper mechanics and such. Thank you again for saving a huge headache because prot warrior is some of the most fun Ive ever had.
I'm finally hitting 70 soon and I'm so excited to tank in northrend! I've been using revenge build for leveling!! But I love your method of shield slam and the amazing Shockwave.. btw will be watching more of the videos and following your lead in tanking everything in this game!
The only expansion I mained warrior for. The most fun I've ever had in pvp gme all the 1vx's. Wrath protection warrior is king 🙌 Even played a private server for a few years just to run prot pvp.
Just switched my PvP spec to prot since I started getting some OS prot gear from raids. Man the struggle to get hit cap sucks but I’m excited to play some prot especially since it’s become so hard to find tanks for heroics lately. Thanks for the vid
Slam on brother, I am smashing everything, moo from a prot cow on Golemmagg. Also, whenever I get enraged, as in always: I am untethered and my rage knows no bounds!!!
Hi Sir, I need a big favour. I'm a big fan of prot warriors. Could you please test something for me ? Spec to around 1960 block value(soft cap) and do a shield slam without glyph of blocking, on 80lvl dummy, then apply Glyph of Blocking, and do the same and could you show us the values in terms of block vs damage increase ? could you also do the same with Shield block up, with and w/o shield of blocking ? thxxx
Hi, congratulations for the video. I tried to read the macro but it doesn't show clearly. Could you please write in order in the name of the macros? A thousand thanks :)
Thanks! im off-tanking naxx tonight and i really needed to know, last time took me a while to get both of the mobs KT summons in the final fight. bit embarassing.
Hey man, I have a question regarding the talents which I can't really understand. It is suggested several places that "improved heroic strike 2/3 or 3/3" is the best way. But to me, that seems like waste of talents, considering you've almost always rage capped during raids/dungeons. I understand that HS is a filler spell (which again, is usually only necessary while having a lot of rage). Why would you not use devestate instead of HS as filler, when they do equal damage and re-apply sunder armor debuff. OR as a filler, you hit rend - and spec 2/2 in "improved rend" talent instead, and let that deal 20% more dmg? I mean, as a filler spell anyway. I understand that rend not necessarily is in our rotation as prot warr, but wouldn't imp rend and rend fillers, amount to more dps? And all in all, be more worth than 2-3 rage cost decrease on HS? I don't get it. This feels like a nobrainer to me. Please help me understand, why HS and "Imp HS" is so important. Epic guide btw, really helpful. Thanks a lot for all the effort put into it. :) skg
@@tomatosaucin Yep, i figured. After playing a few days as prot at lvl 80 it was pretty self explanatory. So i feel ashmed for even suggesting what i did. :D
Awesome, super educational video! Thank you for taking the time to do this. Quick question: is deep wounds really worth it? Half of my weapons damage over 6 seconds doesn't sound like a lot.
So my logs that have been logged have been bad, how do I improve my play? I use the rotation, have the gear, use the CDs. But can't get into raids cause of logs. I'm not a bad player, have more to learn.
whats you thunder clap macro? didnt go over that one, nice video! Also I notice you have thunderclap bound to S which is walking backwards. You never walk backwards?
Glyph of Devastate? That’s an odd choice since you are basically using devastate at least every other GCD in a fight for damage as well as proccing free shield slams. Devastate is usually one of my higher damage abilities at the end of a fight because when revenge and shield slam are on CD that’s my go to. I don’t see a need for glyph of devastate unless you really want to get to 4-5 sunders in the first couple GCDa but even then I think glyph of cleave or taunt are more useful
The only time this guide would be valuable is for leveling / 80s dungeons, vigilance glyph is so bad in raids since there are so many more options etc glyph of Last Stand, shield wall, taunt, 2x devastate stacks is also very bad, as i said only for quick fights its okey, I dont understand your logic going for "all spells 2 less rage cost" talent insted going for actual 1min reduced cd on Shield Wall + glyph, which make it 2min or 1min, not sure, also the safeguard talent can be very useful in some fights
Why vigilance talent is bad is bcs on fights where you have to taunt boss and not miss it, you can use vigilance on tank which increase your threat by a lot, and also if you miss your taunt, you will get it back instantly when tank gets hitted next time
I've rarely seen a guide with so much misinformation. You also contradicted yourself in the beginning by saying you were always rage-capped, but you still pop Bloodrage on cooldown. Macros are often personal preference in my book, but many of yours did not make a whole lot of sense to me. You also put your trinket use AFTER shield slam, meaning if shield slam is off cd and gets popped during that macro use, you pop shield slam first and THEN the trinket, meaning your shield slam is not getting that block value into it. I could write half a novel about the rest, but it'd probably just seem like I'm here bashing this guy's video.
@@tomatosaucin Talents Praise: Encouraging DPS warriors to tank to bring more to the table and be a better team player is extremely good advice and one of the reasons I watched your video in its entirety the first time. Shield Slam is the highest threat generator by far and should always be prioritized on SINGLE TARGET. Fact is that Revenge is so strong and hits two targets, so if you have more than one target you need to hit, you use Revenge. Shield Specialization does not make Shield Slam hit harder. Shield Slam gets a damage bonus from your block VALUE not your block CHANCE. This is where you mention that a Prot Warrior is always rage capped. I would not say that Improved Thunder Clap is mandatory, but since Focused Rage is not overly needed, Improved Thunder Clap is what I would recommend too. But mostly because of the damage and not the slow, since you will almost never run two protection warriors and both Blood DKs and Prot Paladins have the 20% slow passively. Not 100% sure about bears. I think Infected wounds is also applied passively with bleeds. However, the choice is pretty much between the two. Gag Order ONLY silences the target. A spell does not need to be kicked. Also it makes both Shield Bash and Heroic Throw silence, so say you have a caster at range of your pull. Chuck him a Heroic Throw at the end of his cast and he will run towards you once it goes off, as he will be silenced for 3 seconds. The takeaway here is the Shield Slam damage, as you said, though. You say you like Focused Rage because you like having a ton of rage, but earlier you said you’re always capped. This might be because of Focused Rage in part. My personal experience is that you are MOSTLY rage capped, but at times you’ll get a streak of dodges or the like and since taking damage gives you more rage than the 5 rage you get from mitigating an attack, you CAN at times be at no rage for a few GCDs. This is where you need to stop queuing heroic strike and make sure you have rage for Shield Slam, Revenge and Devastate. Praise: Warbringer is not the coolest talent in Protection. It is the coolest talent in the game! Safeguard is a nice mention. If you choose to take this, it is a very good CD to use as a CD on another tank. A good example would be on the Impale ability from Northern Beasts in ToC. Glyphs Glyph of Vigilance SEEMS good, but with Salvation for Demo Warlocks etc it is not needed in any way in this phase. Glyph of Block is 100% mandatory for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Glyph of Devastate is kind of niche. I get the logic behind it, but especially on pull (when is where you stack up Sunder) you don’t want to use Devastate. You want to get that snap aggro by using Shield Slam and Revenge so no one gets aggro on pull. Personally I like Glyph of Cleaving because it adds more value to the overall clear speed and helps with AOE threat quite a bit. Gearing The logic behind 2set vs 4set is absolutely spot on. But it would be nice to mention that the tier gloves for DPS are actually BiS for protection because they give hit and expertise. Gearing expertise is super important along with hit as you mentioned. The expertise softcap is 6.5% (26 expertise) and makes you unable to be dodged, whereas the expertise hardcap is 14% (56 expertise) and makes you unable to be parried. Expertise does not affect blocks. The badge ring and cloak are BiS for the entirety of phase 1 for tanking, not just preraid. Same goes for the armor plated combat shotgun. I feel like you should have mentioned Seal of the Pantheon (Halls of Lightning normal) as it gives a LOT of defense rating, which is pretty much mandatory if you want to be defense capped when first entering raids. It also has a 3.4k armor use. Macros When you add your /use 13 (trinket) to your macro you add it AFTER shield slam, meaning it gets popped after shield slam is used and the stats from the trinket are not applied to the shield slam in the macro. I would personally not mix defensive cd macros with ability macros except for in specific instances like pull macros etc. Having startattack in your abilities is a good call as autoattack wont start if you do not have rage for the ability otherwise. Spell Reflection only lasts for 5 seconds, so combining it with other defensive CDs doesn’t make a whole lot of sense as you want to time it correctly. An example would be the Spell Finger adds in Old Kingdom. They have a 7-8 second cast called Shadow Blast which hits a tank for a good 50-80% of their HP. If you went in and popped shield wall on a big pull, your Spell Reflection would run out before they finished their cast. You want to have full control of Spell Reflection. Also about /stopcasting. You CAN cast Spell Reflection while Heroic Strike is queued. There were some instances where what you’re saying was true in the past, but in Wrath that is all fixed. No need to stop ability queues anymore. Also if you wanted to do it like that, it would make sense to stop casting BEFORE you cast it so it does it instantly and you don’t have to click it twice. Even if in a real scenario you mostly spam your abilities anyway. As said in my first post, macros are mostly personal preference. No bashing intended. (: Here are some of the macros I use personally: Stance Dance Macro /cast [Battle Stance] Defensive Stance; /cast [Defensive Stance] Battle Stance; This one is pretty simple. You only really want to use Battle/Defensive stance as Prot 99% of the time and 99% of that time you’ll be in Defensive. But this button will put you in the other stance than the one you’re in due to its cast criteria. Last Stand Macro #showtooltip Last Stand /use 13 /cast Last Stand /cast Enraged Regeneration Last Stand and Enraged Regen share a cooldown so you always want to use those together. The trinket use is included because I was using Repelling Charge (health boost on use) and that boosts Last Stand even further as it is percentage based. Warrior Kick Macro #showtooltip /cast [equipped: shields] Shield Bash /cast [noequipped: shields] Pummel Shield Bash and Pummel share a cd, this macros your kick into one button so you don’t have to worry about that anymore. Intervene Mouseover #showtooltip /cast [@target, help][@mouseover] Intervene This let’s you quickly charge to a friendly on the screen (or raidframes) if need be. I use this on EVERY Gothik fight if he telepots and on every 4HM figt to get from one horse to another in no time. Simply intervene a friendly and then charge on to the boss. You’ll be flying through the raid like superman. Prot Warrior Pull Macro /cast Bloodrage /use 10 /cast Blood Fury /cast Shield Block /cast Charge /cast Heroic Strike /cast Shield Slam Bloodrage does not need to be included. Optimally you cast it when the 10 second pull timer goes off so you have as much rage as possible when you pull. /use 10 is for engineering glove enchant. Blood Fury and Shield Block you want to pop before you hit the boss. Charge is for getting to the boss. Heroic Strike queue and Shield Slam for when you reach the boss. This macro is super efficient. You just run towards the boss and spam it until Shield Slam has gone off and it will do the rest for you. Like an absolute bull. Potentially heroic throw before you spam the macro if you have the room/time. Consumables Armor pots last 2 minutes and the potion CD is 1 minute. Also most fights are less than 4 minutes so popping two armor pots is kind of wasted imo. I usually prepot armor and then pop a haste pop after the 1 minute mark, meaning the pots actually stack their effects together, making them a tiny bit stronger. Rotation I personally don’t use Rend. You already have to Sunder, use shouts and what not. And in 25man an arms warrior, feral druid or any warrior crit will put up bleeds instantly anyway. Thunder Clap is only useful on aoe. You will almost never encounter groups with two warrior tanks and all other tanks apply the attack speed debuff automatically. Demo Shout is strong for mitigation, but I personally don’t bother with it in Naxx due to the low difficulty. It is solid advice to just keep it up at all times, though. My advice for a general rotation would be this: Single Target = Shield Slam > Revenge > Devastate while spamming Heroic Strike Two Targets or More = Revenge > Shield Slam > Shockwave > Thunder Clap > Devastate while spamming Cleave If you’re an engineer, Saronite Bomb on cooldown Even on single target as it does not trigger the GCD. Sapper when convenient.
How to not play prot warrior in phase 1 * You should not go deep prot in phase 1 is not needed, it's waaste fo your own time and your raiding mates team. As you want to go unleash revenge spec. i
Yeah. I stopped watching after you spoke negatively about UA spec. The absurdity of just calling someone a clown because they think the spec is better is wild. There are situations for both. I ran with a UA warrior who was doing absurd DPS in a Naxx 10 and it was easily the fastest raid I’ve ever done. It’s okay to have different opinions but to just dump on a really fun and interrelating spec option for your class as a content creator is childish at best.

Here are some of the macros I use personally:
Stance Dance Macro
/cast [Battle Stance] Defensive Stance;
/cast [Defensive Stance] Battle Stance;
This one is pretty simple. You only really want to use Battle/Defensive stance as Prot 99% of the time and 99% of that time you’ll be in Defensive. But this button will put you in the other stance than the one you’re in due to its cast criteria.
Last Stand Macro
#showtooltip Last Stand
/use 13
/cast Last Stand
/cast Enraged Regeneration
Last Stand and Enraged Regen share a cooldown so you always want to use those together.
The trinket use is included because I was using Repelling Charge (health boost on use) and that boosts Last Stand even further as it is percentage based.
Warrior Kick Macro
#showtooltip
/cast [equipped: shields] Shield Bash
/cast [noequipped: shields] Pummel
Shield Bash and Pummel share a cd, this macros your kick into one button so you don’t have to worry about that anymore.
Intervene Mouseover
#showtooltip
/cast [@target, help][@mouseover] Intervene
This let’s you quickly charge to a friendly on the screen (or raidframes) if need be. I use this on EVERY Gothik fight if he telepots and on every 4HM figt to get from one horse to another in no time. Simply intervene a friendly and then charge on to the boss. You’ll be flying through the raid like superman.
Prot Warrior Pull Macro
/cast Bloodrage
/use 10
/cast Blood Fury
/cast Shield Block
/cast Charge
/cast Heroic Strike
/cast Shield Slam
Bloodrage does not need to be included.
Consumables
Armor pots last 2 minutes and the potion CD is 1 minute. Also most fights are less than 4 minutes so popping two armor pots is kind of wasted imo. I usually prepot armor and then pop a haste pop after the 1 minute mark, meaning the pots actually stack their effects together, making them a tiny bit stronger.
Rotation
I personally don’t use Rend.
My advice for a general rotation would be this:
Single Target = Shield Slam > Revenge > Devastate while spamming Heroic Strike
Two Targets or More = Revenge > Shield Slam > Shockwave > Thunder Clap > Devastate while spamming Cleave
If you’re an engineer, Saronite Bomb on cooldown Even on single target as it does not trigger the GCD. Sapper when convenient.
13?
lets be honest, if you aren't PROT warrioring, you are absolutely WRONG
"Rotation"
How to not play prot warrior in phase 1 *
You should not go deep prot in phase 1 is not needed, it's waaste fo your own time and your raiding mates team.
As you want to go unleash revenge spec.
