According to Wikipedia: The National League of Families POW/MIA flag, often referred to as the POW/MIA flag, was adopted in 1972 and consists of the official emblem of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia in white on a black background. In 2019, the National POW/MIA Flag Act was signed into law, requiring the POW/MIA flag to be flown on certain federal properties, including the U.S. Capitol Building, on all days the U.S. flag is flown.
I was acquainted with people putting up POW MIA flags back in the 90s. These guys were affiliated with the long time demonstration next to The Vietnam Memorial.. The flags are also outside of House and Senate offices. Flags were installed way before Trump, even though he passed this law.
Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act, mandated that the POW/MIA flag flag is to be flown over the White House, the U.S. Capitol, the Korean and Vietnam Veterans War Memorials, the offices of the Secretaries of State, Defense and Veterans Affairs, offices of the Director of the Selective Service System, every major military installation (as directed by the Secretary of Defense), every post office and all Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and national cemeteries. It wasn't until August of 1990 that Congress officially passed U.S. Public Law 101-355, designating the POW/MIA flag in it's current design as “The symbol of our Nation’s concern and commitment toresolving as fully as possible the fates of Americans still prisoner, missing and unaccounted for in Southeast Asia.” The the National POW/MIA Flag Act that Trump (who has openly stated his dislike of dead/missing soldiers & POWs) signed only amended title 36, United States Code, to require that the POW/MIA flag be displayed on all days that the flag of the United States is displayed on certain Federal properties.
It’s a POW-MIA flag, and yes, it’s a black flag! People need to wise up before they speculate on stuff they know nothing about! Everybody panics so easy these days! Bring back common sense!

@dramallama6811 I didn't but I'm french, so I have an excuse ! I've just understood that PAW means : Prisoner Of War, and MIA : Missing In Action, but what does : VFW mean ? can you explain me please ?
This was originally a VFW initiative many years ago. Many POW’s and their families lobbied fed, state and local gov to fly the flag. The “missing man” table in most military mess halls represents the same sentiment and remembrance .
Historically, a black flag before battle meant that you would not give quarter (a chance for them to surrender). Gen Santa Ana's army flew the black flag before the battle of the Alamo.
I suspect that was a totally blank black flag that Santa Ana flew. This black flag has a very distinctive logo representing POW's & MIA's, so it isn't the same black flag that Santa Ana flew.
Our Department of Education needs to be ashamed of itself. The United States Kdgn thru 12 Grade Social Studies Curriculum and Instruction is deplorable.
Ran across your video today and subscribed!! I loved the mini tour and history lessons. Fantastic. Thank you for taking us along on your last minute shopping trip. Merry Christmas!
The National League of Families POW/MIA flag, more commonly known as the POW/MIA flag for short, was first adopted in 1972........it bares the official emblem of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia. The POW/MIA flag was flown over the White House for the first time in September 1982, but not full time as it flies now. In 2019, the National POW/MIA Flag Act was signed into law by Pres. Trump requiring that the aforementioned flag be flown on certain federal properties, including the U.S. Capitol Building, at ALL TIMES & on ALL DAYS, when the U.S. flag is flown. Previously, the flag was flown on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day, and Veterans Day ONLY. So as best as I can find, it flew at the WH ONLY on these dates, & up until this flag act was signed in 2019, and it now is required to be flown all the time as a result of this law so yes, it would def have been flown for at least the last two years at the WH.
@@LocalMachine Andrew knows very well what it means, he was simply restating the questions about the flag he has received recently causing him to make this video explaining it again.

People are looking for conspiracies in everything nowadays, they probably thought it was “demonic/deepstate” or whatever…
Dan Sickles was also a Major General during the Civil War, he lost his lower right leg at Gettysburg due to a glancing blow of a solid shot cannon ball. The amputated bones of his lower leg were displayed at the old Army Medical Museum in D.C. where I saw them in the sixties. They are still on display at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Silver Spring MD
He used to go to visit his leg.
@p6 thank you for bringing us into your world and as the whole world celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, may you and your family have a peaceful Christmas!
Dec 25 was not Christ's bday, it is the SUNGOD'S bday, and it's celebration is condemned by God. Do ur research.
Really enjoyed this, thanks!
This is my 1st time to this channel. A former resident of the DC area for 30 years. Thanks for the history lesson. I didn’t know some of those things. I also didn’t know it was an ice storm there right now. I am a Veteran. I know these places very well and have walked those streets a many a day. Yes, I got the day off too as a government employee.
Merry Christmas Andrew, may you and your family have a nice Christmas and stay well and safe.
Thank you Andrew! Merry Christmas to you and your family.🎄
Lol... Thought everyone knew about the "black" flag. Guess not.
Love book stores... can spend hours in one...
Thank you... enjoyed the video.
Merry Christmas Andrew, to you and yours!!!
"Everyone" is a lot of people, including us born and raised in Europe. We do not all have A US vexillology.
I am one person who looks forward to your videos. Hope you and your family & friends are having a wonderful Christmas time. I’ve learned so much about DC from your coverage. However, would enjoy some more tourist stuff. For example, the holiday lights at the zoo. See the two polar bears that were delivered to the zoo on October 15th.
Thank you so much for this. Our flag does not get enough respect and acknowledgment. I remember quite a bit when I was a child. I’m 77 years old now so it’s a long time ago merry Christmas and thank you so much.
Great video! I live in Maryland and have grown up in that area my whole life. Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas! I always enjoy your tours around DC and George Town, thank you.
I so enjoyed you taking us on a walk and drive around the White House. I have never been there to see it. And, I really enjoyed driving with you to the Capital. Thank you for this lovely Christmas Gift. It is really great to see such little traffic.

I also didn’t know it was an ice storm there right now. I am a Veteran. I know these places very well and have walked those streets a many a day. Yes, I got the day off too as a government employee. There’s a POW-MIA flag at the VA hospital too.
According to Wikipedia:
The National League of Families POW/MIA flag, often referred to as the POW/MIA flag, was adopted in 1972 and consists of the official emblem of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia in white on a black background. In 2019, the National POW/MIA Flag Act was signed into law, requiring the POW/MIA flag to be flown on certain federal properties, including the U.S. Capitol Building, on all days the U.S. flag is flown.
Merry Christmas! And thank you for your reporting!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!! Thank you for posting and sharing all you do!!
I was acquainted with people putting up POW MIA flags back in the 90s. These guys were affiliated with the long time demonstration next to The Vietnam Memorial.. The flags are also outside of House and Senate offices. Flags were installed way before Trump, even though he passed this law.
Trump moved the flag to the south lawn in 2020, Biden put it back on the White House in 2021.
Public Law 101-355, designating the POW/MIA flag in it's current design as “The symbol of our Nation’s concern and commitment toresolving as fully as possible the fates of Americans still prisoner, missing and unaccounted for in Southeast Asia.”
The the National POW/MIA Flag Act that Trump (who has openly stated his dislike of dead/missing soldiers & POWs) signed only amended title 36, United States Code, to require that the POW/MIA flag be displayed on all days that the flag of the United States is displayed on certain Federal properties.
incorrect never was in my area and i live in a military area now the pow/mia is on all federal buildings.
Merry Christmas to all 🇺🇸 from across the pond from 🇬🇧 Merry Christmas guys
Merry Christmas everyone love from England 🙏🥂🎄
Thank you. Happy Christmas to English citizens, and may 2025 be all you want. ❤

"Gone but not forgotten"
It’s a POW-MIA flag, and yes, it’s a black flag! People need to wise up before they speculate on stuff they know nothing about! Everybody panics so easy these days! Bring back common sense!
I wonder how many true patriots would have lived if Trump had served and fought with them. He is disgusting coward.
Your all in State capture with a birth certificate copyrighted to the Crown BAR Association...and not a GDam one of you even knows what BAR even means...!
Exactly.
Merry Christmas, Andrew & family!
Thank you for taking time out of your Christmas shopping to show us. ❤ 🎄 Merry Christmas to you and your family ❤ ✝️
Have a nice Christmas Andrew.. we appreciate you.. 😊
Merry Christmas! Always enjoy your videos.
Merry Christmas Andrew and family. 🎄
Thanks for the update. I guess you don't need that many gifts
so crazy that they construct that presidential viewing stand every 4 years and then take it down right after...you'd think by now there would be a more permanent structure in place...
Merry Christmas and thanks man!!
Merry Christmas Andrew! Great content!
Chasing black flags and a breeze! Great video Always enjoy the DC tour ty
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Thank you. Merry Christmas💙🌻🌲🌟🌲🌻💙
Watching from Ireland and not as I pictured Washington DC. I expected bustling crowds of shoppers and beautiful decorations but it looked so dull. Thank you for taking us around on such a very cold day.
Not the shopping part of DC.
Seriously there are people who don’t know what the POW MIA flag is? 🤦🏻♀️ what is wrong with this country.
So many are dumbed down.
Right, I mean does that really need to be explained.
😂😂😂
@dramallama6811 I didn't but I'm french, so I have an excuse ! I've just understood that PAW means : Prisoner Of War, and MIA : Missing In Action, but what does : VFW mean ? can you explain me please ?
@@Heimrik01 Vetrans of foreign wars.
Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Merry Christmas from Western Australia
Hollyweird has a branch office in DC? That explains a lot.
This was originally a VFW initiative many years ago. Many POW’s and their families lobbied fed, state and local gov to fly the flag. The “missing man” table in most military mess halls represents the same sentiment and remembrance .
Great video. Thank you. Happy Holidays!
You do amazing work. Thank you for all of it. Blessings this Christmas to you, and to your family.
Merry Christmas to you and your family! !
Where's everyone been? That POW/MIA flag has been flying atop the White House for at least two years now, if not longer.
Longer
way longer 30 years or so
The National League of Families POW/MIA flag, more commonly known as the POW/MIA flag
for short, was first adopted in 1972........it bares the official emblem of the National League of
Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia. The POW/MIA flag was flown
over the White House for the first time in September 1982, but not full time as it flies now.
In 2019, the National POW/MIA Flag Act was signed into law by Pres. Trump requiring that the
aforementioned flag be flown on certain federal properties, including the U.S. Capitol Building,
at ALL TIMES & on ALL DAYS, when the U.S. flag is flown.
Previously, the flag was flown on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence
Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day, and Veterans Day ONLY. So as best as I can find, it
flew at the WH ONLY on these dates, & up until this flag act was signed in 2019, and it now
is required to be flown all the time as a result of this law so yes, it would def have been flown
for at least the last two years at the WH.
yes how could he not know this? What's with the title?
@@LocalMachine
Andrew knows very well what it means, he was simply restating the questions about the flag he has received recently causing him to make this video explaining it again.
OMG, what is the obsession w flags @ The WH? Every American should know about the POW/MIA flag. We have both flags flying in our front yard.
Thanks so much P6. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
Safe travels. See you soon. Take care.
Why because not all viewers are Americans. Nice to learn things I didn't know about
The location changed, it was flying where people could actually see the flag's markings but then the current administration i moved it to the top of the building where you can't see it the design due to height.
The children of the Vietnam vets are in their 50s and 60s, the younger generations don't know.
Thank you for the trivia! Very enjoyable video. Happy Holidays!
Merry Christmas and happy new year 🕛🥂🥂
