Love your videos... You are both fun and dynamic to watch and learn from. I'm curious to learn if you have a breakdown of the albergues you stayed at for the Camino Frances? I'm trying to be as frugal as possible too, and my Camino will begin at the end of March
Ok here are our real numbers as a couple in their 60s with about 50/50 hostel/albergue mix. Daily excluding allowance €40each/ day Accom €44/ day So €62 each per day. For a pretty comfy camino
Spanish girl here!! The price you mention about the pilgrim menu nowadays equates the price a "menu del dia" has (which makes a lot of sense since they are similar concepts), so I find it interesting to mention in case someone doesn't know what a menu del dia is (both of you probably know better than me how much a menu del dia costs right now in the camino, taking into account the experience you carry on your backs). Wonderful video!! I'm trying to watch camino videos to motivate me start planning again because this past summer i would have walked my first one if it wasn't for a slip and injury i had during the first 40 minutes of it. Your channel is ond of my go-to's, so thanks a lot!! 😊
Thanks so much! We hope you have better luck on your next Camino. Hopefully, the wait will be worth it. Good point about the Menu del Dia. We've seen a range of prices on the Camino, often from 12-18 euros (18 if it's fancy!).
Times are changing, the weather also, I can remember the good old days when I paid in pesetas. Forty-five days in the Frances without rain. Incredible!
Thanks for your great video's on the le Puy and the Frances. Watched them all with great enjoyment. You fortified my plans to return to Spain and do a Camino again. Maybe see you someday on the Meseta. My favorite stretch too :)
Merry Christmas and happy New year! It has been a true joy to follow this ultimate expedition/pilgrimage/ meditation over coffe meseta cats dogs horses heatwaves. Best whishes for the year to come. Morten
Thanks so much. We sent a small box. There's a post office (Correos) near the city center. We walked in, bought a box, and asked for the Paq Peregrino options.
Wow, I also tracked all of my expenses and I spent 1100 Euros on water over 2 months of walking. My 3 months, which was a combo of walking 1/2 of the Frances, 1/4 of the Norte, and time hanging out in Portugal and 3 weeks staying in a friend's flat in France was $10,000 US. And I skimped! (I thought!)
pay for water? This high amount, why? The water from the tube is good to drink an there are a lot of springs everywhere with portable water. I spent the money for Estrella, much more fun!
Ha! No fact checking from me, and I did watch “every second of your journey” from Le Puy-en-Velay to SdC. Who could/would stop mid stream?!? Thanks for letting us come along on your caminos aventuras. Just great stuff. My question is this: while my Spanish is 🤙🏽, my French is, eh, better than some, worse than others. Who among your 4some was the French go-to person and how necessary was it on the Podiensis? Mil gracias, jovenazos!
Thank you so much!! A lot of people don’t have enough time off to do the full thing. It’s super common for local French people to walk a week each year. Shawn and Hans were our French speakers. It was very very helpful for calling gites for reservations. You can also ask the gite owners to help you make reservations on the phone. we did that once for Figeac when we struggled to find a place for 4.
Your content on camino Frances is helping me now planning to hike a portion (burgos to Leon) end of April to May. What do you think the weather is that time? Just wondering if I can be ultralight with the weather?
It's always ultralight weather! Although, you may want to bring a warmer sleep system (maybe a sleeping bag). You might get some rain, might get some cold days, might get some hot days. The meseta is super variable.
Actually, the Camino has a surprisingly similar cost for single and couple travelers. Albergues and pilgrim meals are always charged per person. And a lot of solo pilgrims “team up” with other pilgrims to share cooking and nicer accommodation expenses along the way!
When you see the tapas on the bar, do you help yourself like a buffet? or do you tell them which ones you want and they serve it to you or bring it to the table? I keep asking all the questions! I just need to go...
Great question! You always tell them which ones you want. You can do that at the bar, or at a table. Often, they'll plate them for you and bring it to your table.
The post office has some options to ship stuff to Santiago for later pick-up: www.correos.es/es/en/individuals/ocio-y-viajes/walk-the-camino-de-santiago-with-correos/luggage-transfers
Hello.. Any suggestions what city I should land to do the Camino Frances… I will be flying in from USA… Also recommend Hotels near the starting point in France… Thank you in advance..

Very helpful thank you!
I leave the US in April for my Camino. Frances to Leon then SanSalvador to Oviedo, then Primitivo to Santiago. Then Finesterre and Muxia.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow! Sounds like a really great Camino. Buen Camino!

Love these Series of videos... Where to Next???
Thanks so much! We've got some more Spain stuff planned. And we're currently deciding which hikes/roadtrips to do next year. :)
You guys rock!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for bringing back a lot of memories... Any plans on doing the Portuguese route?...Thank you
Thanks so much! We'd love to do that route one day!
Love your videos, thanks for sharing. How did you send your bag from Pamplona to Santiago?
Thanks so much. We sent a small box. There's a post office (Correos) near the city center. We walked in, bought a box, and asked for the Paq Peregrino options.
Love your videos. Any plans to do the Via de la Plata from Sevilla in the future?
Thank you so much! We'd love to walk that route, not sure when but it's in our future. :)

Yeah everyone is different and the Caminos can change a lot. That seems like a lot of expensive water though! Did you ever fill up at the fountains?

@@DaysWeSpend thank you!
A single person will spend more, not being able to share expenses. thanks for this run down though, very helpful.

Okay so what about the UFO's? Spain has lots of those things I think, got any videos of that? Thanks.
Working on it.
Very Frugal for “days you Spend” 🤩
Thanks! 😊
Is it worth it to carry a water filter from Le Puy to Santiago?
We had no problem finding potable water on the trail in France and Spain.
What is “Pilgrim Post?”

50 Euros per day is not too bad. That's only $73 CAD sheesh....our dollar sucks 😂
Hahaha don’t do the math!!! It’ll make you sad 😂
@@DaysWeSpend 😂😅
is it really that expensive?😢
It can be! We shared our numbers but you can definitely walk it for less, especially if you cook and stay at municipal albergues.
I avoid these types of people on the camino ❤
Haha fair enough! Buen camino 👋🏻
Very helpful for planning - thankyou.

@@gh1214 It's best to fly into Paris or Bayonne and take the train to SJPP. Or, fly into Pamplona and take the bus to SJPP.
@@DaysWeSpend Thank you for your reply…I’m seriously considering the Madrid route…working on that itinerary. Gracias
