Thank you so much!! Also the tip for looking out for nicks is great!! I've noticed some in my blade caused by fault guards :(

I'm not quite sure about the nail trick because I ran a test where I used a different pair of skates on a public rink and another pair for hockey games and practice, the ones I used on the public rink (Vapor X3.7, LS¹ blades) still has the nail trick working on it after the whole season ( 7 months) where I had around 70-90 hours of ice time, however the skate should still be sharpened. It really depends what you're using the skate for and how far you'll be pushing the skates. An experienced hockey player would be sharpening them a lot more than a beginner hockey player, so it really depends, great video though!

The fingernail test doesn't really work considering you can scrape your nail on some year old rusted steel and it will still probably shave your nail.

Sharpen after every 3-4 hours of ice time? That frequent? 😰

We have a sparx home sharpener so we probably sharpen more frequently than that. My kids are hard on their edges, constantly getting nicks in the blade...

If you are rubbing your fingers along the blades like you did in this video without so much as a nick. They need to be sharpened.

The finger nail method is invalid, it would work on dull skates as well.
4 to 8 touches , use a sweet stick to increase your time between sharps .
The player should be able to tell the parent if they need to be sharpened.
