The only significant limitation for me with them is that they don't have blade holders and as a result when you try to cut tight the boot or the frame contacts the ice... so you can't cut as tight.

I was considering buying these because I primarily Rollerblade, and saved up for a long time to buy some decent roller-blades, but occasionally want to start ice skating; not enough to warrant buying expensive ice skates, but still. That's the void i see it filling. Any reason not to, or alternate option?

When my microns wore out I had our proshop guy mount my roller blade chase onto my skates as back then when roller blades came out they where heavy a hell and the plastic boot just sucked. By switching out the boots they where still heave but much better to use. I remember trying a Hockey stop and wrapping my knee around a tennis net post.
Did you put a shim over your axle? The spacers that all of these ice blades come with are a larger diameter than the hi-lo axel's. I've had to install them on my FR1's instead of my Mission inhalers.
Every company has a different holder some longer or shorter than others and a slight difference on the pitch of there own stock blade if you buy bauers and your used to ccm skates then ya of course you are gonna feel off but every nhl player gets there skates profiled anyway so they aren’t using the way the stock blade comes, profiling is around 40$
8 bolts and a ton of hardware. This looks like so much trouble to switch between setups. Why not make it so the frame is mounted directly to the boot that way you only need to remove 2 wheels on each skate then two mounting bolts.

I'm not gonna lie, I thought this was done and failed back in the late 90's. Also done by Bauer but back then there was a completely separate chassis that the boot was swapped on to.
Yep, i would assume it would be used more for trying ice skating on your inline skates without having to buy another pair of skates. SInce you can't fully commit with those blades.

I actually have this in proper for my Powerslide inline skates where the whole chassis is replaced using a trinity mount. Works a charm.

I replaced the rivets in my hockey skates with screws so was able to quickly switch between blade holders and roller frames.
Graf has used screws instead of rivets for quite some time

The slightest height and pitch of any new skates always throws my balance off. Those must be crazy to balance on.
They can't be too much different. The blade holder on a pair of actual ice skates is roughly the same height from ice to boot bottom.
Every company has a different holder some longer or shorter than others and a slight difference on the pitch of there own stock blade if you buy bauers and your used to ccm skates then ya of course you are gonna feel off but every nhl player gets there skates profiled anyway so they aren’t using the way the stock blade comes, profiling is around 40$

That sounds mechanically impossible. I just don't see how that would work given the shape of ice frames.

I took my old ice skates and put Mars blades on them. Work extremely well much better than regular roller blades.

It takes way to much time to change from the wheel to blade. You can change into your ice gear fast than changing the wheels to blades.
