TRIP REPORT - American Airlines (MD-80, 737-800), St Louis to Austin TX

- When work brought me to the Austin area this past Memorial Day, I ended up opting for a connecting itinerary on AA via DFW. Turned out to be a pretty cool trip. Come along as I explore some newly re-opened gates at STL, enjoy a classic ride down to DFW on an ex-TWA MD-80, make a short stormy hop to AUS, and check into a Staybridge Suites on the outskirts of town.

Just in time for the retirement of the American Airlines MD-80 😢
:(
Love the sound of those JT8D’s.... It’s music to my ears!!
Guy at 6:11 to dead heading Captain:
"I didnt know there was gonna be another pilot on here"
🤣 .....right. how WOULD you know sir?
Captain is probably looking for a quick nap. Guy is going to talk his ear off. Guarantee it.
Or he could live in St Louis and commuting to Dallas to pilot a plane out the hub. Some Pilots do that. Usually theyll sit in the jump seat though.
Rest in Peace the Mad Dog. Glad you returned to Texas. Funny thing: British airways flies a 747 out of Austin to London. Great video. Greetings from San Antonio, TX.
Wow. Terminal looks practically untouched from when I moved from St. Louis and flew TWA for the last time. Impressive it’s just sitting there untouched. Good old STL.
This is AWESOME will be waiting for more Trips. Thanks!!!!!
This is awesome will
Be waiting for more
Trips thanks❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
love your trip reports for the actual focus on aviation! hope there will be more to come!
Watching this on 9/4, the final day of AA's MD-80s. Drives home just how important they were for STL in TWA's final years and beyond.
I got one of the last MD-80 in service
Sept 4th gunna be a saadd day.😭😭😭
You better believe it. I'm going to miss the American MD-80
I am flying American SAT-DFW-STL in a few weeks. When I originally booked my flight, My DFW-STL was flight 261 now its 1021 on a B737-800
Great video my friend! Thanks for sharing this great report :)
They changed up the rental car system so u have to go to the other side of the pickup area the part facing the garage area to be picked up
I love your trip reports and hotel reviews. Ever think of doing rental car reviews. I am sure you drove many different cars over the years and drove cars you liked and hated.
Excellent trip report as always
I'm so sad they are retiring!
I miss them days were they would cause car alarms to go on and make my ears hurt 😂
I'm gonna miss them for sure
Really gonna miss the super 80s, great video man!
Ah, Terminal 1 brings back a somewhat hellish memory of the last time I was there with my family in the mid 1960's flying Den-Pit with a stop in St Louis. Well it was about 7PM when we landed there in heavy falling snow. Got to spend the night on those seats in Terminal 1. Still looks the same.
Just in time for the MD80 retirements! I managed to fly N984TW (last MD80 ever produced) back in February and N501AA (last MD82 in AA's fleet and the oldest) back in the end of July! At least Delta will be operating them for another year.
You didn't include the part where Andrew trashed your hotel room.... and I'm still jealous of your MD-80 luck.
Did u ride MD 80
MD 80s we still love ya. Have a great retirement.
I remember my last DC-9 flight aboard ValuJet. That was so weird.
Farewell American Airlines MD-80. Good thing you had the opportunity to fly one before it retires.
Cool video
I use to take MD80 (DC-9) when I was in The Navy on USAir
Cool! I've never been on a plane without an IFE.
i like it when aa does the saftey video on the airbus a321neo and 737 max 8 with them doing the saftey video from a recording
My first flight ever was in 1987 and it was TWA from LTR to STL. It was my first time ever and I remember Lambert being so huge. I even remember the "Spirit of St. Louis" was on display. Following that I flew on TWA a few more times in the 90's before they ended and each time, we ended up in St. Louis for our first layover. I even remember an Otis Black Button I found in a nook of the airport my first time but never saw it again afterwards. It was near an actual arcade that used to be there. I also remember riding the people movers and seeing an elevator with Innovation in which the light to the button was always slightly lit but would get brighter when pressed. I always thought that was strange. As always great video!
But when did Lambert ever have customs?
@@damiancooper3063 I fixed the post. I guess my brain and fingers weren't working correctly that day. LOL Little Rock was the origin airport.
Love that Intro!
That safety video’s a bop bro
The Mad Dogs were from the good old days when flying was actually filled with peace and unconditional love. Those good old days are disappearing sadly.
Looking very nice...
Wow, that MD-80 still looks great. And that room, oy vey on the shower head. But nothing a little CLR can't fix, I hope, LOL
All the MD-80s for AA are set to be retired after their final flight on September 4th. Sad to see the end of such an era for American. Last AA MD-80 flight (which i assume is why they kept one original AA MD-80 and not a ex-TWA one) is AA80 from DFW to ORD. On the same day is AA1999 from STL to DFW. The AA MD-80 was the first plane I ever flew on back in 2003. I will miss them dearly
Even Delta is starting to retire their MD-88s and MD-90s. 2 of them this week alone have been flown out to San Bernardino for retirement. The MadDog sure has it's says numbered.
American Elevators live there
I love trips
Thank you for visiting Austin! I'd like to invite everyone to come visit our amazing city. But, please, remember to do one thing. Don't forget to leave!
Yeah, because of all the Hippies. Greetings from the alamo city (San Antonio)
Pro tip, if you ever go back to AUS, after you get your bags, go upstairs to ticketing and cross the bridge instead of using the lower walkway. There will be less people and you end up at the rental cars.
Nice rental car with comfortable seats!
Yes. Another trip report
Fun fact-AUS was Bergstrom AFB before it was decommissioned and replaced Mueller Airport in 1999
donald paluga I didn’t know that
@@wryt19 that's probably why they have the triangle baggage conveyors with the guitars in the middle
How long were you in Austin for because I remember having this same room.
I made a movie about me being on N970TW! I flew on this plane in May as well!
i found it easy to find the car rental i stayed in the terminal and went up to the correct floor and then went across
I did a trip on the same day as this.
I’ve watched hundreds of of these videos of like planes taking off and landing. I’ve never once seen it go over highway.
I work at ABIA, I was there the day you shot this video!! 👍🏽
What is ABIA?
What the heck is going on
Yay very cool
The Last time i sall a md-80 series from american airline was back in 2017.
i was at that airport on june 7th explored concourse E and southwest has exploded out of st louis
Hey, I forgot, does an on time departure mean an on time arrival? I thought an on time departure would mean the lavs were not serviced. :)
An on time departure time doesn’t exactly mean that an on time arrival will always happen. The time of the flight can always depend on weather, for example, if you departed at 6:55PM, and the on time arrival at your destination was 8:25PM, but you arrived at 8:50, your arrival time was delayed by 25 minutes either during to some form of factor.(this is my best explanation that I can come up with.)
I was a bit confused as @1:19, it says St Louis- San Antonio. But guessed correctly it was a tad off lol. Nice video and truly enjoy your productions.
Not sure how I managed to miss that :)
I like it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The pilot on the first flight taxied like a race car!!
9-4 is supposed to be the last flt on the MD-80
That Motor sounds like Chewbacca!!
if choice hotels has room like that i haven't seen one.
Awesome that you got to be on one of the last MD-80s! Did you happen to catch the reg? Maybe you included it and I missed it, but either way, please remind me.
N970TW
The Elevator Channel I've seen that one before! Awesome!
i love it
Well it could have also been do to the amount of rooms sold.
Rip the md-80 😔
Only 4 days until it’s gone
what is gone?
Sam Sitar md80 aircraft 😭
Sam Sitar Too late. RIP American Airlines MD-80 1983-2019
God bless the Mad Dog.
do u know who qfs aviation is
10000th viewer!!!
I saw my school in this video
Wow you finally are getting nice cars from Hertz. When did you become presidents circle?
Sadly I've been Pres Circle for years now. Quality of the cars really depends on the location. Most big airport (corporate-owned) locations have a decent selection. Austin was a good one. DTW location was fantastic when I was there a few weeks ago. At the same time, PHX was pretty bad... really just depends.
@@TheElevatorChannel Yes it does and it all depends on the time of year.
I love it
SHould have taken the airport escalator. You would have been right across the street from the RCC
Hey I leve in Austin
had a mean flt attdnt saying that a on time dpet means a on time arv she spoke before the maint issue and Sun Country is ending there MSP flts and the end of the concourse is where the flts left for Hawaii when twa used 747s sad that the airport is a dead 1

Love the passive aggressive announcements by the FA!
I live in Austin
Those t posing flyers look cute
My uncle has a Chrysler 300
What is that sound on 28:36
OJA Aviation that’s the plane
I meant the vibration sound
OJA Aviation yep. That’s it
Awesome Will why was it doing that
OJA Aviation it’s just how planes work sometimes
rip md 80s american airlines
Delayed 25 min. because of the lavatories? What a shitty thing to happen!
402
Another episode, report from deadly airplane crash.
Smoking Room? Is that from the old days. Because unless the building is on a Native American land no smoking allowed in public buildings.
Amtrak Traveler911 That’s what he said
47:59 - That elevator's certificate was expired!
Will miss the old shiny livery of American Airlines. Symbolized American spirit. Unlike this lame boring new livery AA have
united saftey videos better than americans
enterprise is better than hertz
