Daniel- BEV operational should be INSTINCTIVE , the button need to be MINIMAL, like on the Steering wheel and Limited to the MAIN DISPLAY, this is why TESLA has only 25 ECU and no FUSES , compared to DOUBLE in the POLESTAR 2.
@@jimdetry9420 it doesn't, but lean design mentality does. the carryover from tesla hard ware to software shows they are attacking the same problems differently. they also have several years (going on 10 years since first model s with massive screen) worth of UI improvements. I drive a 2014 model S and when I watch videos from a few years ago I cant even recognize the UI its changed SOO much. the polestar will get better with time, but so will tesla. I'm happy to see both companies making good evs. there is enough junky ones out there, and will be plenty of junk pushed by old OEM converting, this, the mach e and some of the 3 wheeled evs are all great additions to the ev space for the consumers at large
@@WANDERER0070 Höh, it is google interface and anyway even Volvo's old interface is super easy to use. Of course if you have difficulties to understand its 3 main pages, then you are in trouble ... but many of us can count on three and memorize what is in each page.
The world is brimming with people like Sandy and those will be the tough ones to convert to driving EVs. Everything that can be done to make the car feel 'normal' will help them make the leap.
Sandy working touchscreens is like that guy who tries to improve kitchen gadgets by testing them left handed with oil on his hands. Designers have to make UI's with people like Sandy in mind.

@@bonnafansgarage510 I beg to differ - I found Tesla's UI simpler to navigate and to orient myself in on "first contact" than the Google car UI (Polestar basically left infotainment to Google). I think it's mostly down to visual grouping, but also the choice of colours for buttons vs decoration - buttons don't really stand out because there are no borders around the icons (either individually or around a group), and while you do get used to this the lack of extra visual clues makes "first contact" more confusing IMHO. Now I've been hunting for options and menu items in the Tesla UI too, but at least I find it easier to understand "where I am", even if I'm looking in the wrong submenu/settings page. Of the UIs I've tried though Google's is easily among the top ones, while at the other end there's the iPace and its confused mess.
Looks great. Sandy’s response matches a lot of other comparisons on RUclips. A well built car that looks nice, drives fast, handles well, but has some minor footwell issues.
You should do the same test as with the ID4 and the Mustang: use the navigation system (without help!) to find and reach a charging station, then charge the vehicle.
This is what I was expecting when I watched this video. This should be a standard test for the Navi in every EV. It should easily navigate you to charging and also distinguish between L3 and L2s.
Well, once you know this car has Google assistant built in.... "Hey Google, display local chargers", or ".... Navigate to...(charger)" or "navigate to.... (location where you know there's a charger)..." Or a combination..." navigate to
All these cars have voice command, you simply tell it to find chargers and it will find them (i3, Tesla, iD.4, Mach-e, Mini e, Leaf, Polstar 2, Kona Electric).
I love watching Sandy trying to find the maps on all these different car interfaces. Reminds me of my Dad rifling through the glove compartment of our 1952 Buick Super, trying to find the right paper map for the state we are driving through. Things change but stay the same.
I’m a model 3 owner...this looks like a car I would like....so far, of the more recent EVs out there I would put them in this order: 1. Polestar, 2. Mach-e, 3. ID4. I wouldn’t trade in my car for any of these, but Polestar looks like a good entry...this makes me happy. The more the merrier :)

JACK - the POLESTAR 2 is overpriced for what you get, the MACH-E is a better value and built correctly. POLESTAR 2 is shoehorn in Batteries into a GAS car.

Nice car but I just hate how the center area is just unuseable because the gear stick is there. How often do u need to shift gears? Only a few times. So put it in a place where it doesn't need to be used often. Let the center area be open and useable for the driver and passenger.
Thanks Sandy and team at Munro & Associates. Maybe you should do a DC charge stop as part of your review. Afterall, a key to EV ownership is range and charging availability.
Why? We all know how these cars charge, where to charge them and we know what our daily roundtrip and the amount of range needed. It gets pointless to keep showing how each new EV chargers because every EV will charge differently and not every EV will be consistent every time. Things like ambient temperature, battery temperature, the car's maximum charging rate, the max charging speed of the charger etc..
Thank you for opening my eyes to this new market! Really like the Polestar from what you have shown. But i think the "woohoo" should have been placed over the digital speed indicator :P
Sandy, love your videos, but... After you show us the suspension and brakes and so forth under the car -- I really want to see how well they perform --- PLEASE do some of your test driving on twisty, bumpy, hilly roads! With some hard stops. And avoidance/swerving moves. Any box with wheels can go on a freeway - that doesn't prove much.
Sandy, what you probably didn't test is Polestar's headlamps at night. They're one of the best, better than on Tesla and many other cars. For some countries and US states, this might be a very important factor. Great review!
The headlights are nothing NEW, they are from the VOLVO parts bin. TESLA is partnering with SAMSUNG to develop NEXT GEN headlights, possible included with Model S REFRESH.
@@markplott4820 No the headlamps are new matrix led. No other volvo has them (the new C40 will though). Tesla also has matrix technology but hasn`t figured out how to operate them yet. But that doesn`t matter in the US because of rigid laws…

Polestar 2 seems fine.. in Europe there are currently massive delays. Our company Polestar2 was moved from March/April to (at least) September. Another one I know of from December 2020 is still not delivered.

A man likes to sit in a car like on a horse, legs open :-) And I really do not like the mid-screen with a fixed angle. In some countries, the Sun will be problematic. And I'm missing an arm/hand rest when you use the screen.
Agreed. It could be something done off camera by one of his employees. Then it could reviewed after showing what the charging process is like at the nearest available DC fast charger.
The Polestar 2 looks to be around 300Kg heavier than the heaviest Model 3 - I hope you can look at the design and production factors that lead to this difference. .

But Musk himself will tell you Tesla can’t, and doesn’t want to, do it themselves. I love my polestar 2 dual motor. But I’ve got some boggles now. Ratchet clicking slowing down. Top mounts rubbing. And don’t get on with the land centering atm.
if it had another hundred miles of range I would have considered it but to be blunt, it does not have acceptable range as listed on their site at 233 miles
Once you drive the car, you understand. The sides of the center console helps to stabilize your hand when you have to deal with the screen. I can pinpoint anything with 100% accuracy on a bumpy road, unlike others cars where you have to fight with your hand waving in the air left and right.
on the map screen it was obvious that it was showing you locations based on hat it HEARD Sandy saying. In the search bar was written, "just like I like the Google"... The car was searching for locations based on a voice prompt.
Impressive car. The only thing I really don't like is that the OS is not in-house. It's Google Auto. Therefore the enjoyable interface is with an advanced data gathering shop, and which has no characteristic and little connection with Geely, Polestar or Volvo.
Nice car, but why is the middle console so wide? Rubbing your knees against it all the time would annoy me to the point I go crazy and rip it out! You see these quite often in The Netherlands btw, quite popular car here.
Exactly: the home button and the „B“-mode for one pedal driving should not be so hard to find. But in the end VW‘s software still sucks so far - much to do there.
I sat in one today at a local auto show. Loved it. UI was completely intuitive, for me. I have a Y on reserve but the Polestar is tempting as delivery would be months sooner and there's that $7500 tax credit that makes it significantly cheaper than a Y.
It's the sedan version of the XC40 with a different dashboard and door cards. But the seats, the vents, the steering wheel, most of the switchgear is identical to the XC40. Underneath, it's probably identical but Polestar tuned.
It's a really nice car. Nice form factor. Nice towing capacity. Seems well built. It's only let down by its consumption and not having a charging network. If they could get it more efficient and a deal with Ionity and whatever VW has over there, it would be a the best EV for me. But as it stands, it's probably still the Model 3...
You're wrong about consumption though. More and more people are actually getting WLTP-range now that the temperature is getting higher here in the north. It's just the expectations vs. reality is surprising to people, especially in the winter.
Polestar 2 is a CHEAPLY made Luxury car in CHINA, that can't even compete with a TESLA model 3. Polestar 2 is using a OLD GAS car platform, and creates a INEFFICIENT BEV car.

What is the starting procedure? Do you carry a key fob, and do you need to sign in to the car, we don’t know any details, you get in sit down and fiddle with a the touchscreen a few buttons and something that looks like a shifter, then you start driving, why would an EV need a shift lever! We’re mystified by the “starting procedure” what “items” are required by the driver, Sandy can you help us out! We’re lost in space.

The center console destroys room for taller drivers and is unnecessary as there is no transmission tunnel.

The top of the gear shift is actually angled so you rest your forearm on it when using the screen. Picked up my Polestar on Monday.
Love my Mach-E! Over three thousand miles and zero issues so far.

The bulkiness of the center console is a deal-breaker. And why do you need a "fake stickshift" on an EV?
Its not fake there is Park,,Drive, Neutral and Reverse makes shifting easier especialy when stuck in snow or mud and need to rock it fast from D to R

Impressive car. The only thing I really don't like is that the OS is not in-house. It's Google Auto. Therefore the enjoyable interface is with an advanced data gathering shop, and which has no characteristic and little connection with Geely, Polestar or Volvo.
Nice car, but why is the middle console so wide? Rubbing your knees against it all the time would annoy me to the point I go crazy and rip it out!

Exactly: the home button and the „B“-mode for one pedal driving should not be so hard to find. But in the end VW‘s software still sucks so far - much to do there.
I sat in one today at a local auto show. Loved it. UI was completely intuitive, for me. I have a Y on reserve but the Polestar is tempting as delivery would be months sooner and there's that $7500 tax credit that makes it significantly cheaper than a Y.

You have to adjust your terms Sandy, it isn’t a gas pedal as it uses no gasoline. An accelerator pedal or go pedal is acceptable.

I used to own a Volvo XC40. The interior is almost identical.
YES, the Polestar 2 is based on a GAS car.
It's the sedan version of the XC40 with a different dashboard and door cards. But the seats, the vents, the steering wheel, most of the switchgear is identical to the XC40. Underneath, it's probably identical but Polestar tuned.

It's a really nice car. Nice form factor. Nice towing capacity. Seems well built. It's only let down by its consumption and not having a charging network. If they could get it more efficient and a deal with Ionity and whatever VW has over there, it would be a the best EV for me. But as it stands, it's probably still the Model 3...
You're wrong about consumption though. More and more people are actually getting WLTP-range now that the temperature is getting higher here in the north. It's just the expectations vs. reality is surprising to people, especially in the winter.

Polestar is a nice vehicle, looks good, good performance and excellent driver interface. Interior layout could be improved. Sandy nailed it.
Polestar 2 is a CHEAPLY made Luxury car in CHINA, that can't even compete with a TESLA model 3.
Polestar 2 is using a OLD GAS car platform, and creates a INEFFICIENT BEV car.
@@markplott4820 The user interface is much better and is more comprehensive, the chassis build is more solid and exterior styling is in another league.
Sandy's Model Y challengers -- Mach E and PoleStar 2 -- are notable for being the designs that attempt to copy Tesla with the best fidelity.
At last, there are some EV's worth having other then the Tesla. I was beginning to think the only other transport other then the Tesla was either going to be the Electric Milk Float or a Golf Buggy!
NOPE, it's NOT worth more than a TESLA model 3 AWD/Performance and the TESLA model S REFRESH is a BETTER overall value than the POLESTAR 2.

that is a good point, most lower level software will prompt a list of command structures when an incorrect command is entered.

What is the starting procedure? Do you carry a key fob, and do you need to sign in to the car, we don’t know any details, you get in sit down and fiddle with a the touchscreen a few buttons and something that looks like a shifter, then you start driving, why would an EV need a shift lever! We’re mystified by the “starting procedure” what “items” are required by the driver, Sandy can you help us out! We’re lost in space.
