I gotta say that this is a very compelling vehicle, I’m sure the Tesla will have more alleged range, but in the real world I can see a lot of people liking this. The interior feels a lot more worthy of the price, and having actual door handles makes a lot more sense than the ones on a Tesla or Mach e in Nordic regions.

The obsession with cupholders is strange to me. I don't think I've ever owned a car with a cup-holder and it's not something I miss. Once in a blue moon it would be useful. My current one has a nice flat bit on the side of the dash which will take a plate, bowl or cup as required.
I'm really looking forward to the interview with Jagdeep Singh. Sandy's comment "it's different when an engineer has a look at things..."; no joke! I'm an engineer and learned decades ago to disregard anything technical or scientific in the general press.
Double latch in hood: It is safer. Simple as that. And when in an accident to a pedestrian, the hood will pop up in the back to minimize head injury on pedestrian, and then also two latches help secure the hood in the front.
comments on the ergonomics would be interesting - can you reach the controls, how is the seating position, getting in and out of the back seat.........
I'm a long time Tesla owner (Model S since early 2014) and I like this Polestar a lot. Looks like they have taken advantage of space really well. Frunk is a tad small but still usable. So far it is looking very competitive. And yes, I'm jealous of those tight panel gaps.
I've watched more than 5 different reviews of the Polestar 2. A common complaint is the small front cabin size with the center console impeding on the leg space. Hopefully, Polestar fixes this in the 2022 model. They also need to fix the one cup holder thing, and the loud turn signal noise. Other than that (and, obvious battery range problems), Polestar has a strong, bright future in the EV race!
Love the look of this. It looks a lot more like a regular car and not full of translucent blue and green plastic like some other EV’s that want to look like some futuristic environmental prophecy and will look dated in 5 years. Great job on the design, polestar!
Can you do a video explaining why Tesla has so much trouble fixing panel gap consistency? What goes into that? Why are panel gaps not aligned to begin with?
@@coast2coast00 I just rewatched it again, but Elon only talks about how fewer parts are better and how high precision on parts reduces the total tolerance of assembled pieces. Makes sense why it's a hard problem, but why have other major auto manufacturers seemingly been able to figure it out, but Tesla hasn't?
Quality specialist (with focus on fit and finish) working on this model during design to production for 3 years here. There are many factors for this, both in parts and system design, quality assurance with suppliers, as well as in house in the factory. Probably the issue at Tesla lies in parts/system design, hence the quality will be lacking until they put in the investment to redesign many parts/systems of the cars which have big implications on how the car is put together in the factory. But that has never been Teslas focus either, its expensive and they focus on other things. And to be fair, they also have some good ideas that i’ve personally benchmarked.
@@Oliver68118 so for Tesla, it is not a matter of precision but rather a matter of having panels that can only be assembled with minimum range of rotation in pitch/yaw/roll? What's an example of a bad/good system design?
@@thesadboxman i can give you a concrete example between the hood and bumper. I know that Model 3’s have gotten a pretty bad reputation for those. Many manufacturers have a front bumper that can be moved, adjusting the gap towards the hood in production. Built into the process in the factory. This cant be done in a tesla model 3 for example since the bumper is fixed in that direction because of the bumper interface to the fender (the bumper is attached to the fender in that direction). Another example is that most bumpers are attached directly to the headlamp, forcing the bumper to have great gaps towards the headlamp. Its all about understanding how all parts interfacw towards eachother and how the system should be designed. Some examples can also be purely design wise, you can see for example most new VW group cars having a specific hood/fender split, purely in one direction (x, y or z), clamshell hood. This also helps to visually hide the gaps and is easier to optimize both in production and in design. Its always easier to make good designed split-lines because sometimes no matter how good the gaps are, it will still look like crap. Compare this design with the headlamp of the model 3, it will be very obvious really quick as soon as something is not perfect in the tesla case, but you will not be able to see the faulty 2020 skoda superb hood/fender split unless you really measure it. I tried to take some examples that would be easy to understand. Overall the benchmark champions when it comes to fit and finish (gap-wise), germans are the top of the line:Audi, Porche. Other germans soso (Mercedes, BMW).
I've just finished watching Fully Charged's Shanghai Motor Show 2021 reviews, parts 1 & 2. Many small EV's that on the surface at least, look & sound great. If Munro & Associates ever get the chance to take a closer look at some of these, it would be very interesting; not everybody wants or [needs] a tank to pop to the local corner shop for a pint of milk & a loaf of bread or for their daily commute. You should note that these are only meant as city runabouts.

Sandy should talk about the Elephant in the room. Cybertruck and the EU pedestrian safety laws. There is a lot of European Cybetruck orders and we would like to know if Tesla can somehow ”get around” the pedestrian laws we have over here. The hoods here must be able to ”deform” to make less impact on the pedestrians. How can this be worked out on the CT? A thinner stainless hood section than US that wrinkles/bends on impact? Aluminum front sections. Construction design? Original thickness but weaker (cutouts) stainless sections that deforms on impact?

3:08 the gap where the hood, the door, and the fender come together looks off to me, it is because it’s 90° angle on that corner? I gotta say that this is a very compelling vehicle, I’m sure the Tesla will have more alleged range, but in the real world I can see a lot of people liking this.
The interior feels a lot more worthy of the price, and having actual door handles makes a lot more sense than the ones on a Tesla or Mach e in Nordic regions.
5:35 "Single cup holder. I guess it's okay if you're single." Hahahaha
There is another further back under the arm rest but you have life the cover and keep it open, which is not ideal for when you want to rest your arm on long drives.
Although mostly in the UK we don't do long drivers for more than a few hours at most, so not an issue in the UK.
In the US you guys do 1000's of miles for a holiday where we just fly anywhere.
@@Gdank72 Hey! Cupholder situation is good to me.
Car will drive with single person in for most of the time.
There is spare one when needed.
Polestar is a Swedish company headquartered in Gothenburg, co-owned by Geely and Volvo. Built in China tough.
Fairly sure I've never looked at a panel gap critically in my entire life, but damn those some fine gaps.
Probably fine tuned just for Sandy ;D What bothers me with these reviews that we have no idea what's really going on...
I'm a long time Tesla owner (Model S since early 2014) and I like this Polestar a lot. Looks like they have taken advantage of space really well. Frunk is a tad small but still usable. So far it is looking very competitive. And yes, I'm jealous of those tight panel gaps.
Hey Sandy! Check the pocket in the passenger door to see if they put a cup holder there!
They fixed it in the Polestar 3. That aspect of the Polestar 2 is done and it will be improved by mostly OTA updates and some minor trim updates.
Love the look of this. It looks a lot more like a regular car and not full of translucent blue and green plastic like some other EV’s that want to look like some futuristic environmental prophecy and will look dated in 5 years. Great job on the design, polestar!
too bad POLESTAR 2 is thousands of lbs OVERWEIGHT, cant even manage 250 mile Range w/ 75 kwh battery........LOL.
Can you do a video explaining why Tesla has so much trouble fixing panel gap consistency? What goes into that? Why are panel gaps not aligned to begin with?
Watch the Elon Musk interview on this channel, they go into it.
Other germans soso (Mercedes, BMW).
not gonna lie, I get excited when I see anything Sandy is in or puts out at this point🤣 looking forward to rest of this series!😁👍👍
Looking forward to the interview
thank you
The Polestar 2 is an electrified version of the Volvo S60. As such it has some intrinsic compromises but has been fairly well reviewed.

Very interested in the Audi Q4 e-tron when it's available. Are you planning on checking it out? Thanks!
TOO expensive , Sandy only buys the BASE models , IF they are Cheap Enough.
Since it’s based on the id4 I would think they’re will be very similar.
@@markplott4820 What? The base Q4 eTron is like $45,000. Sure maybe a little more with some options by the time it ships. The Polestar 2 base price is $60,000!
@@Jastor00 The base Q4 eTron is a 250 mi range car, so very competitive with the SR+, and with federal incentives it could sway people. I'm just not sure about Audi making the vehicle though. I like those door handles.... heck with everything Tesla is good... gee!
3:35 I disagree. I like a simple door handle, that we can use without thinking about it.
I still don't think it's good idea to make all sorts of compromises at the front just to have a tiny and inconvenient extra storage. Just put what is really needed there and make the nose shorter -- exactly what VW has done.
Been a follower of Polestar since I found out Volvo was an investor and developer. So excited for this series of reviews, I'm glad you brought one in! Kind of surprised the door handles weren't recessed as I thought that was in their design?
VOLVO does NOT exist anymore , its a CHINESE based company and has some Production in Europe.
@Mark Plott Well, that’s unsettling. Non-existent company doing things in China and Europe. Sounds shady.
@@markplott4820 Volvo still exists but was bought by Geely from Ford. A company doesn’t necessarily cease to exist when it’s bought by another company and Geely bought Volvo for their expertise and brand name. They would have to be mad to through that away.
I definitely wish Volvo had their pre 1998 brand still, but luckily aside from the bad decision to get rid of station wagons they have still kept a good reputation and crash test ratings.
@@markplott4820 As others points out, Volvo Cars still exists and their main facilities and development is still situated in Gothenburg, Sweden. Hence, the majority of the work force resides in Sweden. However, Volvo Cars also have, just like other car brands, factories in other countries. Ford sold their stake in Volvo Cars to Geely. Someone said it is about 51%. And also here's an advice for anyone looking up facts surrounding this; make sure to separate Volvo Cars Company(VCC) from AB Volvo, the Swedish truck manufacturer to avoid confusion.
Love the door handles. Polestar dares to make something simple that should be simple. You might start to like them when you try to get into your Tesla in winter. Besides, when you're being fried on your batteries after an accident someone still might get you out of te wreck.

@@JorgTheElder They'll be built in the USA too as well as Belgium. Wherever Volvo factories are they can be potentially built. This is a Swedish car, not a Chinese one. There are way too many products made in China from non-Chinese brands to say any product simply built in China is Chinese.
Looking forward to the QS interview. I've been holding back investing, wanting to but not sure given what I've read.
The Polsestar looks like the Mustand Mach-E should have looked to me :D It sort of looks like an overbuild interior though. Everything seems so American style massive
Sandy, can you talk about HOW an oem gets good gaps? Is it an assembly issue? A tolerance issue?
…. or Tesla just sucking at it…. Yes that’s it !!!

I'm not a fan of anything CCP. I sh1t on them constantly. My comment was directed to Sandy, not the car. China didn't build that car. Volvo engineers went to China and spec'd out the manufacturing. China has no imagination. Everything that they "build is a copy of the west.

3:08 the gap where the hood, the door, and the fender come together looks off to me, it is because it’s 90° angle on that corner? Or is it because of how high up that line is relative to the top of the hood and the belt line on the door?
