- Jay Weinberg, drummer with band Slipknot, has to keep his drumming and physical fitness in top shape. Touring with Slipknot is the drumming equivalent of being asked to run a marathon, night after night. Playing a show this demanding without a warmup can lead to injuries, which could be game over for the tour. That’s why Jay chooses to take his V-Drums on tour - so that he can maintain tour-readiness and warm-up before every live show. Having a V-Drums kit on-hand is also useful for helping Jay and the band pen new songs and easily capture demo tracks on tour.
In this video, Jay plays along with a well-known Slipknot favourite, using the V-Drums Acoustic Design VAD506 kit. Jay plays a Slipknot track, with original drum track removed, from SD card inserted into the TD-27 module. The audio from the TD-27 module provides the drum sounds and are mixed with the Slipknot track.
Jay’s custom setup uses two VAD506 kits, combined together, to exactly model his acoustic kit setup as played on stage with Slipknot. Two TD-27 modules are tethered together to provide inputs for all pads within the kit. Drum audio is recorded directly from the TD-27 modules into a DAW. Mixing and panning completed in post-production, maintaining the authenticity of the TD-27 module sound. Video and audio recorded backstage at a Slipknot concert on January 24th 2020, Birmingham, UK.

Jay is a great drummer and is a huge inspiration to me, but I think the sound of the new Roland module ruins his great playing. The sound could have been so much better. But when that’s said, I think it’s nice to see something from Jay again 😁😁
He’d definitely use superior drummer or smth if he were at home. Just listen to one of his covers
I think it sounds so different because jay usually uses drums with super high attack. His drum shells look like they are four inches thick and I don’t think you can get shells that thick without getting a custom drum
@@rylandmatthews1284 these are electric it doesnt matter. I dont like the sound of them either, so they should just change samples, the thickness of the drum has nothing to do with it
The drum kit looks cool...but it sounds too electronic. The actual feel of a drumset is lost..but Jay is great as always!!! \m/

Because I've noticed all these videos were recorded the same day.
But the sound of the ride for example changes everytime.
I don't think they provided Jay with a good enough sound, no dynamics either.

For those of you guys who don't know, Jay has been doing drum covers on his channel as of lately (I assume Roland sent him a TD50KV set for free for doing these vids for them?) and it's sick, also the sounds are a bit better over there from jay configuring them how he wants

Jay is an absolute monster. His style is both super unique and also similar to Joey's in some ways. What a solid performer!
I feel the other playthroughs from this series sounded better than this one. Everything else is okay, I guess. But those toms sound like cardboard. Jay killing it like always though.
Was thinking the exact same thing... Unsainted sounds perfect, Nero Forte is good as well. Ride doesn't sound right at all and the toms are just too artificial.
The song is super fuzzy on the record tho thats gotta be tough to replicate with an e-kit, i get what yr saying tho

Great Performance of Jay... Td27 do not have the sound that much of us expect. The roland td27 module is a great module, however in my opinion, the roland td17 has better sound processing and resolution. Now, obviously, for this style of metal those sounds apply, however they sound very flattened and I lack their work. It can also be the job of the sound engineer. I prefer the sounds of the Roland Td17 and those of the td50.
i think it needs more time to cutomize every sound to "Slipknot's live sound profile", and that drumset will be great replacement for his typical drumset, because he's a smart person and he know how much wood wasting a single drum set. Also, he can play on a fucking wood log and it will be great intence, so just support him, because he is a BEAST!

Lol I just realized that the Ride cymbal is programmed with an open Hi Hat midi sound so even though He’s hitting what should sound like a Ride it’s actually a secondary Hi Hat.i forget what it’s called though.

Run this through GGD Samples and it would sound beautiful. I have this module and the factory samples are ass. But you can’t beat the quality of the hardware

I know I'm about to catch Hell but IDGAF. Love Joey and he is a great drummer (I know but to me he lives), but Jay is way more precise. Before you say it I mean without the electronics. I honestly believe that this is one of the songs that shows his precision and Joey just couldn't or wouldn't drum like that.

The chainsmoker's kit sounded exactly like those "toyish" drums. Electronic kits are perfect for beginners though and also for pro-drummers to augment their lack of skill and finesse on "real" drums.
