If you were asked to describe what a sea slug is, you might be tempted to go with the straightforward response: it’s a slug that lives in the sea. And you know, you wouldn’t be wrong.

"There is nothing wrong with being wrong" is an unexpectedly affirming thing to hear in a video about sea slugs so thank you for that. If even a master of microscopes is allowed to be wrong, then so can I!

It's so true! Although as a keeper of aquatic gastropods, I have to disagree with the "unexpectedly" part: one thing I learned pretty quickly is that there's so tremendously much to know! In my experience, gastropod people are very understanding and humble when it comes to others' knowledge of the subject. Even on reddit, r/aquaticsnails is generally a very calm place open for questions and discussion.

My brain short-circuited at the pronunciation of "nudibranch". I always pronounced branch like a tree branch. Because they have all those branching appendages. And they're naked. Nudibranch! And I was so wrong! New fact of the day acquired x

I love aquatic gastropods so much! While I personally keep freshwater snails, I've definitely came across seaslugforum when doing research.
Every time I've found myself amongst fellow mollusk-lovers, on- or offline, we have a wonderful time geeking out about how impressive and cute our little slimy subjects are. I sometimes even get in conversations with people who haven't given slugs or snails much thought in years who find it endearing that I have pictures of my snails on a keychain.

I don't understand why nature channels use almost exclusively completely weird scales for measurement. like here _400 micrometers for comparison_ - a measurement that is neither relevant to the animal's size in any meaningful way nor is it a milestone number nor does it mean anything to any average metric user. the scale should be a meaningful milestone number like 1mm so it would serve the only purpose it has, which is to make quick intuitive sense to the viewer. it makes so little sense and it's so widespread it looks like a joke the creators of these videos are playing together and laughing while they do it 😂
