Okay, the final overextension of this metaphor was amazing. Especially with the added digression into whether Cienkowski had originally considered the implications of vampire poop.
ooh - I actually didn't get the nod to Halloween until you pointed it out for me! Funny, since I love Halloween and already have carved pumpkin, a tray of cute candy, and a fire cat in my window! 😄
Common Amoeba W they're soooo cool!!!! These feeding methods are insaaaane! Super cool creature and very entertaining to see the metaphor overextending
I wonder if Brian Lumley was inspired by these for Necroscope. The Vampires in those novels do have many of these qualities including the tendrils and puncturing to eat from the inside out stuff. Great espionage suspense series. A little dated, but I enjoyed them!
“If an amoeba or any type of simple bacteria were to gain the power of a man, this bacteria would then appear as a god to its own kind. If the power of a human were to be explained to an amoeba, it would not do as humans do, but would merely harness this new power to do whatever an amoeba already does - consume and destroy” - Kei (Kay)
Evil is the use of personal power to destroy what is innocent or "good" for personal gain or pleasure. It is the ones with brains which have a choice of their behaviors.
Seems that we might have gotten a little too excited about it being Spooktober and missed this one! Thanks for calling it out and good job catching the misspelled name!
Arachula looks genuinely terrifying tbth, imagine it around as big as a football in a body of water you frequent often, silly you, it's looking for a warm blooded orifice thankyou very much.
Very nice work! Love the footage. Personally, looking at the footage at 05:20, it appears to me to be more of a Leptophryidae, rather than Arachnula, the movement is too rigid and the filopodia are tapering. Also, just to add there are currently 4 described vampyrellid families, though the other two are definitely rarer. Not to mention many other exciting new insights into vampyrellids to come. ;)
I wonder if these things would still move in the same way if they weren't growing on a smooth glass substrate. Frosted glass can be index matched with media using iodixanol, which should facilitate good microscopy.
Imagine a contemporary take on ''the blob'' horror movie but with a more ''scientific logic'' to it that has the blob change and go through various life cycles. Would actually be kind of neat ngl.
Well, a vampire "sires" another by draining them and then letting them drink their tainted blood, effectively "consuming them from the inside" so... Yeah. Good metaphor. EDIT: In any vampire lore worth its salt, that is, with absolutely no reference to any modern sparkly daywalking millennia-old angsty teen-stalkers. "I like watching you sleep..." Ewwwww! Suck the blood, freak! Don't just SUCK fullstop!

more like a pillar man tho
It was I, vampyrellidae!!
I think that it's annoying.
Amoebas my beloved.
I pass them every day in the thousands
Spooky season is upon us!
Fangs for the informative content as always!🧛
ooh - I actually didn't get the nod to Halloween until you pointed it out for me! Funny, since I love Halloween and already have carved pumpkin, a tray of cute candy, and a fire cat in my window! 😄
So step one is the blob
Step two the thing
Step three vampire
Step four invasion of the body snatchers
Fun ,authentic , analogy !!
"And then the vampire needs to clone itself a few times..." Ah yes. As vampires do.
Came for the scary vampire amoeba, stayed for the silly vampire metaphors. 😆
Thank you for such a wonderful episode! This is the exact sort of information I love the show for ❤
Every vampire movie or novel should clarify if their version of vampires needs to poop or not.
Mobile Shielded Buffet is the perfect setting for vampire post-apocalyptic movie.
Digestive cyst = after-Thanksgiving snooze.
Waking up from a long nap hungry but also ready to leave some brown particles behind relatable
Beautiful photography. Thank you.
I love it that its happening all over all, the time and everywhere...
I was today years old when I found out the lovely modular sounding synth music on these videos is by non other than Andrew Huang
Great video! ❤
I just subbed to your channel! Nice spider video 👀

Thanks for the awesome content and great videos!!
Beautiful work
In 1:14, it says Arachula, not Arachnula.
Protoplast extraction sounded like a spider sinking it fang into the prey, then turning the internal body into liquid, then sucking it up.
Having to poop before a murdery feast is verrryy important you know! 😊
Please please please when there is something interesting happening on screen DON'T SLAP TEXT ACROSS IT!
Keep away from me vampy lady!!😲
wonderful episode as always, keep it up!
Colony invasion is how the Pillar Men can feed! (IT'S A JOJO REFERENCE!!)
Reminds me of the Strigoi from The Strain TV show 😂
OMG VAMPIRELLA are my favorites!!!!!
Massively appreciate the Vampyr reference
I am glad they are not the size of a raccoon. I would not like to have my insides sucked out.
I love October!
Love this!!!!! ❤
Next April fools you should do a joke episode on the Thing from another world
"Numerous brown particles..."
I ❤ this channel.
Sucky little lifeform.
Quite practical though 😍
To be hiding inside a buffet 😂
And Smith told Morpheus in the Matrix movie…
It’s a matter of perspective.
Super interessante! Adoro assistir esse canal! Parabéns pelo trabalho. 👏💝
Everybody poops.
GOAT
Tradução em português br please
vamp/vampself
Arachula = Hermaeus Mora
morph.
Noumena bacterias 🦠🦠🦠
It should really be pronounced vam-pee-rella, not vam-pie-rella
988
❤😂
Then it's a pillar man not a vampire.
Amoebas my beloved! 😍

As the theme of "Transcendence" with Johnny Depp, the question is, "What kind of god?"
Vague quote there, where is this even from? Googling the full quote does nothing, attaching that three letter name didn't either.
@@homeopathicfossil-fuels4789 It's from Akira, a cyberpunk anime movie from the 80's.
Thank you for reminding me every day why life's good. Much love from a Zimbabwean microbiologist.
The thumbnail for this one was really fun! I liked it!
I love having Hank's amazing voice mesmerisingly guiding us on our journey through the Microcosmos
Watching this during a thunderstorm really adds to the atmosphere
I can't find anything in the name "Arachula"? What did pop up is "Arachnula" which seems to be it
Seems that we might have gotten a little too excited about it being Spooktober and missed this one! Thanks for calling it out and good job catching the misspelled name!
@@journeytomicrohaha no problem. I thought it looked sooooo cool and I had to know more! Great video as always!
In 1:09, you wrote Leptophyrs, not Leptophrys.
I thought the music was a great match with the subject matter. Good job, @andrewhuang ! 😄
Awesome video! Having a vampyrella printed on a t-shirt would be a great low effort Halloween costume.
Absolutely loved the intro! And the metaphors couldn't have been better. Well done!!
I love the retro aesthetic in this episode. It has such atmosphere!

This is My favorite episode so far, not only cause of the theme, but also as a fellow microbiologist i'm progress ❤❤❤
Interesting.
This is really awesome 🧛🏻♀ Thanks so much Hank & James🧡🖤 Happy Spooktober👻 🔬🦠

I'm excited to the next Halloween special where we journey to find a microbe that changes in the moonlight
Ia! Ia! Shub-Niggurath!
The thumbnail sounds like it's about my ex 😂

what we really do in the shadows
poo
%:55 might've taken the metaphor a lil far but my dnd brain doesn't mind, my players might however
I almost skipped this because I didn't read the channel name and read the title as "Vampirella". Was she making a comeback?
It’s so bizarre with how microscopic life is almost like a completely alien world to everything else
5:50 Actually, sounds like a great new horror movie idea!
So, microbes poop's also brown, huh!!
Why do I read Vampyrella in an Italian accent 😂
definitely thrown off by the title
Howdy
2:50 Mickey Mouse cell
An incredible intro
wow these are cool as heck
Awesome intro!!
Great video!
Awsome
Awesome! Looking forward to the Elvirella episode 😉
Everything they do is great, but I liked this one very much! The old movie effects at the beginning is a nice additional touch 😊
"Numerous Brown particles" is a clear definition for it. :) XD
i've been waiting for you guys to do a video on these! they're my favorite amoebae and some of my favorite microbes in general.
❤❤❤
