You are a true Master Horologist! After 30 years of Horology & Watch collecting I have come to the same exact conclusion! Timex made me realize truth! Timex is King!
My grandfather died in 1981. He was an artist and had made a metal band for a watch. The band was attached to a 1977 automatic timex. The watch has been in a safety deposit box since 1981. My mom got all the contents of the box and I got the watch. Wound it a little, put it on, and have been wearing it for the past three days and it keeps good time and keeps running over night. Not too shabby for something that hasn’t been running for 42 years.
I agree with you, Timex is on a roll. My first watch was a mechanical Timex from the late 1960s. I now have a large collection which includes two Rolexes, but I am wearing and enjoying my Timex Pepsi Q today. Also enjoy wearing my Marlin hand wound, it reminds me of the Mad Men era every time I look at it.
recently got the expedition north solar. stainless steel, sapphire crystal, 100 mt water resistant, no need to change the battery. Great solid watch overall!
Since so many people’s first watch was a Timex, the potential love for the brand is huge. They’re defo going in the right direction now and with none of the polarising brand baggage of…er…for example…TAG…if Timex can keep producing cool, interesting designs they can go from strength to strength.
I have a few Timexes in my poor man's collection. I love 'em. They're cheap, stylish, decently built for the $$$. Plus, the brass cases are really light. My new field watch is a Timex Expedition Snoopy limited edition. It's a conversation starter around the camp or on the trail. With Indeglo, I always know exactly what time it is---even after the lume has died on my buddy's TAG. LOL
My grandpa used Timex, to which I use one that looks the same and never have let me down. I knew some folks (Toolmakers) that used to work in one of the original manufacturing companies in Waterbury / Middlebury, CT. Waterbury watches are just simple, inexpensive and get the job done. I love Timex! 👍👍
I’ve had my Timex expedition chronograph TW4B12300 (that you reviewed) for about two years. I’m still amazed that TIMEX can produce a watch with a steel case, skeleton hands, orange tipped stopwatch hand, double rehaut with notches, framed date window, and indiglo, and wrap it up into a nice Flieger design for less than $50! Amazing. And with the Timex name behind it, you have at least some chance of getting a resolution to any problem, compared to an unknown brand. I understand that it’s not a Rolex (I have a Submariner), and it will never have the build quality or quality control of a Rolex… but still… to be able to put that together for less than $50?? I enjoy wearing mine tremendously, not just because I like the look, but partly because it is such an amazing value.
Totally agree! Timex is making A strong comeback, and I recently purchased their Tide-Temp-Compass, SAPPHIRE, Indiglo, and super cool. Comes in black with blue/orange temp scales, or green, but I got the black. $249, and get a 15% coupon. Killer deal!
I freaking love Timex. Indiglo was one of my favorite features. I also had the Timex Datalink which is probably the first smartwatch. It transferred data by reading a CRT screen
I received a typical "We noticed you saw our watch in our site" email regarding chronographs, I didn't care much but then I saw this picture in the same email showing off this black dial Timex diver I never seen before in someone's palm. It was almost love at first sight and immediately went for the Timex site again. Found out that Timex released a brand new automatic diver aka the black/green Waterbury mentioned here in the video. Man Timex is killing it! I need these divers now. I can deal without sapphire for that price... I think...yes...yes I can.
My father was a practical man. He wore a watch every day. He saw no sense in spending any more than necessary to know the time. So, he always wore Timex. Throughout my youth, I did, too. Indeed, my beater is a Timex.
I have well over 100 watches from many brands from many states and countries. Timex has always been my favorite brand. I wish they'd expand their American Made line up but maybe someday.
I don't currently own a Timex, but their Ironman digital watches were my everyday watch when I was in high school and college simply because I ran cross country and track, and there's nothing better than that watch for running. Recently, I kind of did what you did in this video and was poking around the Timex website, and was blown away by the plethora of options available. I particularly have my eye on the Marlin reissues, as I'm a sucker for that 1960's aesthetic.
I bought 4 of the new Marlins (2 mechanical, 2 hand-wound). Just wish the hand-wound was 36 or 38 mm. Love the 60s numerals dial design. I find I wear the 40mm silver automatic Marlin the most.
In one year (also from the time this video is on line) I bought four Timex, and got as much pleasure as a watch collector as I did 20 years ago while buying a Rolex. So yes, indeed they are to the point. And we need quartz watches ! I have a big garden, a motorbike, we are traveling my wife and I, often towards the french riviera so we are swimming etc. All activities for which mechanical watches are best left in their box, while a Timex Expedition fills the bill perfectly ( I paid mine 43 euro, that is about 45 dollar) since years. I think a collection should gather them all: beautifull pieces, but also simpler ones, tool watches, etc, in order to cope with all situations. I particularly like my Timex "Pan-am" chronograph, a splendid one and still a daily wearer.
One of my two favourite watches is the Timex TSE231. For me, it is just right. The only problem is that getting a genuine Timex replacement band for it has been near impossible.
Yeah, I have a Timex Marathon and I couldn't get a replacement strap either, just had to go for a 3rd party strap. It works, but doesn't look the same. I bought mine 16-17 years ago and it's still working. Good tough watch.
A lot of kids of a certain age had timex watches growing up. I had a digital huckleberry hound fishing game one & blue snoopy watch as a kid & currently own 4,a Waterbury,a Waterbury automatic,a marlin automatic & a scout expedition.
The Giorgio Galli S1 Automatic in black/blue 38mm (40mm Silver doesn'took bad either) is still one of my favorite Timexs when it comes to the detail in design and machinig. Hope to grab one later this year.
Agree on most points. My first watch was a Timex Mercury (mechanical - hand wound watch from the 70s) that my Grandmother gave me when I was about 10 years old. I recently found one and it sits right on the watch corner next to my Rolexes. That watch started me on my watch collecting journey that has led to dozens in my collection all the way up to my Daytona. Love Timex.
This video reminds me of how much I miss my classic Timex Ironman watch (I damaged it by accident when I tried to replace the battery). I liked the relatively compact sized watch in a tough water-proof case that cost me less than $50! I think I know the next watch I'm buying in the near future...
I've owned and loved many an Ironman, Indiglo, etc., and am always rooting for affordables. That said, just checked out the Timex website on these new mechanicals and from some of the negative customer reviews it sounded like QC issues (a bezel falling off, a movement issue, bracelet issue), etc. And to me, even though I generally feel many homages are fair game, some of these just rubbed me the wrong way as kind of half-hearted. So for now, to me, Orient remains the go-to in the sub $300 genre, and once we get towards $500, would point to Zelos and other micros. But hey, I'd be thrilled to be wrong and would celebrate if Timex steps it up---I did really like their Pepsi / Batman bezels on these and the bracelet design, and appreciated that it looked like a modified Miyota movement.
Well damn. I guess I’m an idiot. I tried to do Timex and each watch I purchased (roughly 4) quickly panned out to be junk. I have no faith in their products. With their prices in the $200-300 range, I’d rather put that money into a Seiko or Citizen.
Two of my thirteen watches are Timex, I grew up wearing Timex and I gave my buddy that Expedition chronograph as an Xmas gift two years back. Some of their designs are fantastic for the price. And indiglo is a functional godsend in dark environments. Sure they tick loud but honestly, not as loud as a Swatch imo. Definitely worth owning a Timex.
Timex uses mostly miyota movement which you didn't talk much about and the quality of the watches are iffy. Their in house movements are not easily serviceable and are made to be disposal. Might as well buy Chinese homage watches which use seiko nh35 movements with sapphire crystal which gives more bang for the buck than a Timex. Therefore, am not surprised why Timex was ignored by collectors except idiots. And timex were idiots most of the decades offering battery watches instead of solar ones. Timex is no match for Casio or citizen.
I watched a video on YT about why almost nobody collects vintage automatic Timex watches. It was because their movements were poorly manufactured and weren't made to last long.
My first watch was a Timex which I was given around 1961. My last one, an Ironman, was on its fouth battery when it gave up the ghost. I've been carrying a pocket watch since and I've come to enjoy some of the reactions of people when I pull it out to see the time.
I have been wearing Timex Ironman watches for over 30 years. Since getting into collecting about 4 years ago, I have added six Timex Intelligent Quartz models and two MK1 Steel models, including the chronograph model, like yours. I do not have any Timex automatics yet, but am interested in the Giorgio Galli S1. By order of quantity, my current collection consists mostly of Casio, Bulova, Citizen, Timex, Orient/Orient Star and Glycine watches.
Timexs indigo is hands down the best lighting in the watch game period. And different colors. My expedition is green light but my supernova is blue. Absolutely the best
I had a Timex when I was a teenager that had a solid-link stainless bracelet, uni-directional bezel, chronograph, stainless screw on case back, stainless case, and a screw-down crown. It was of course a quartz movement but still was a crazy amount of features packed in for I’m thinking around $50-$60.
Timex Ironman was my first real watch as a pre-teen and stayed with me all the way into college. But after that basically completely ignored Timex. I kinda got into the watch hobby right around 2018...and only then did I realize the significance of Timex as a company. I had no idea how much history Timex as a company had. And my interest with watches just happens to be right about the time of this recent Timex renaissance which kinda kicked off with the Q. So yeah I've picked a few these past couple years, including an Ironman (which I love as much as my G-Shocks) that Waterbury Diver and even a Giorgio Galli (never thought I'd spend that kind of money on a Timex and it was worth it). They really have been putting out some nice pieces, although none are flawless and they have room for improvement. I think the struggle with Timex is they are still sensitive to being that everyday, every person, affordable watch brand. But the way the watch market is today its nice they've started to figure out that what watch enthusiasts want is also what that gets everyday people to pay attention and can separate them from other generic affordable watches. So hopefully they continue to lean into the fact they are a tried and true watch company and not just a company that makes watches.
Lot of love from here for Timex. My first watch was a black dial Sprite with a M25 movement, and I've recently restored a '67, put it on a bund strap and that is very much a keeper. Recently sold a similar M26 (date window) Sprite and have another M25 with a large soft peach coloured dial which I love. Still have one Expedition left and the Indiglo is the best back light EVER. Rolex? Nah.
Love my secondhand Fairfield Weekender. Can still hear it ticking at night if I leave it on the other side of the house. Or with the neighbor. Or at the gym. Go indiglo!
Great video. Really enjoy all your videos. I started collecting Timex watches at the beginning of Covid. I have quiet a few watches in my collection but didn't have one single Timex. Rolex, IWC, Zeppelins, LumiNox's, Citizens but no Timex. I have found a lot of watches that I would have never thought existed until I found Timex, (Time, Temp, Tide, Compass) and Linear Chronographs, a lot of complications per watch, and chronographs that have an active large second hand, not just it being stationary with a small second hand at 6 o'clock. And most of the ones I found (yeah EBay) are new in the box from the 80's. There are a lot of great finds on Ebay with Timex watches. The field watch you show here I have two of them, in the box 35-40.00. I think now I have about 30 timex watches. And guess what my everyday goto watch is now.....yeap Timex. My newest brand that I am adding to my collection is the Casio Pro Trek PRW-6800-1JF and the PRO TREK PRW-6800Y-1JF. NOTE: At this current time, Casio is only selling these in the Japan market, in the USA it is the PRW-6900, however it is totally different than this one, however the second had does double as a compass needle.
I like Timex watches quite a bit. Big fan of the Ironman series. However, Timex's customer service kinda sucks. Takes weeks for them to reply to their emails, and even then it takes even longer to get traction on quality control issues and other problems with your purchase.
Love Timex. Not 100 on the new direction they are going. But that is cool if thats the way they want to go. I like the older IQ series watches. Like and have the Flyback Chrono, the Expedition Chrono, and the Yacht Racer. To name a few.
That Waterbury 4:37 is really nice! Love that bezel. With screwdown crown, 200WR and better lume at that watch would be extremely competitive the vintage skindiver segment. Or even just the diver segment in the 40-42mm sizes. As it is still lacking for me.
My watch addiction started with an Amazon search for "analog Timex". I almost bought an Expedition but sprang for a Khaki King instead and thus an addict was born.
A sales rep from Timex Canada told my father that because Timex watches are so inexpensive everybody thinks they are poor quality but in reality they are amongst the best watches you can have . Why would anybody spend $25,000 on some fancy watch when a $75 Timex does the same job of telling you the time
Mr. Goodman! The Timex Expedition field chronograph you featured in your channel in the past and in this very video is one of my favorite watches I own! The T49905. Your video gave me the idea to buy it and it's been a staple in my watch rotation. Compliment magnet. I've also gotten this habit of thinking myself doing the most random things 😂 I appreciate the recommendation, your honesty in reviews, and quality you and your team put into these videos.
Had a Timex marathon back in 86 at 12 years old... I wear an Ironman classic lap 30 most days. Way better than a g shock, more comfortable, better size, more legible, better functions, more exclusive.
Had a Timex expedition (analogue and digital displays)for about 10 years, nice silver bezels, white clock face, and a brown leather strap, which I’ve only just had to replace the strap after 10 years(don’t wear it everyday though). It looks way more expensive than it costs, and very comfortable
My wife's grandfather worked in the huge Timex factory in Dundee Scotland in the 80s. Sadly it closed down in the early 90s, and it led to massive unemployment in the area. Timex has always been a solid brand, with relatively inexpensive watches.
my favourite timex from the early y2k was the ironman with the FLIX technology, you flick your wrist and the indiglo came on , oh and its got this very nice and contrast greenish LCD screen
Timex quartz watches are great for accurate time keeping, and being able to take physical abuse. The only cost for maintenance is changing the battery. The best deal with any quartz watch is to get the LCD type display. These are the most shock resistant and longest lasting. In their higher end watches their mechanical type watches are very good for the price. The most shock resistant watches I've had were the Casio G-Shock. Accuracy is very good with these. For general use when working and doing things that can be dangerous for a watch I am wearing Casio and Timex watches. Being low cost I can buy new ones at any time I want.
Been thinking about the iron man for my jogger watch. Unfortunately, I just started a work out challenge for work and had to get a Fitbit🤢 I do love my Timex expedition chrono
I use a Timex Weekender as my daily. The reason - it does what the whole purpose of a watch, and that is, to be able to tell the time. And my Timex does that very well, being legible at a glance. I once got a traffic ticket for making an illegal left turn during certain times, because I misread the time on a Movado watch without numbers or hash marks. So, any watches I purchase today have to be very functional.
My first Timex was in the late sixties as a gift for having learned to tell time on a analog face. It died after a year and a half, and I begged my parents for a Bulova Caravelle, which lasted ten years at the same price. Fast forward to the Eighties and the Triathlon came out. "Even Timex can't foul up a digital," I reasoned. Nope! True to form, the Timex Triathlon lasted a week, then died! The clerk at the store didn't even seem to be particularly surprised when asked for a refund. NO to Timex!
I started collecting snoopy watches from Timex (made up of the Marlin and standard editions). Im also digging the expeditions. So i guess they won me over too. Also great customer service
Yes, I’ve had several Ironman watches in the past. They would make it for about five years and then die. But I would abuse them as designed. The indiglo and large numerical readout were great
Spot on about Timex. They are offering some great looking watches. I wear the Ironman and the same Expedition Field Chrono. It is an impressive looking watch. Next I want one of their Expedition military style and an assortment of NATO straps. Which one should it be?
I've always had favorable impression of Timex growing up. I still have the one I had when I was 10. But the thing about Timex I have a hard time getting past is, for years and even now, about the only time I notice a Timex watch is in a messy pile on the department store shelf along with the Armitrons and Goodfellows and the underwear someone decided not to buy. To anyone not watching watch channels on youtube the impression of the Timex brand of watches might be that it's a disposable item you just get because you need it for work or you have a wedding to go to and mom wants you to at least make an effort to look like you're trying. I really wish Timex would improve the way their brand is protected. Until then, I guess my hot take is Timex = Target.
I like that Timex is bringing back some classic automatics but they never really stopped being cool (except when they would try to make Casio rip-offs). I still have my old pre-indiglow Ironman from the 80’s, an Acqua indiglow from the mid 90’s, antiqued brass 40mm Weekender (that’s the best looking one and had a comfortable leather nato, why the hell did they discontinue it?), a few MK1 aluminum cases in different colors… Casio just kind of took over the cheap Everyman watch market. It’s about time Timex reminded everyone who and what they are.
Every timex Ironman that I bought never made it past 6 months, either the band broke, the battery died because my hand kept hitting the mode and adjust buttons while I was working or I'll scratch up the glass aka cheap "plastic" and I couldn't see the time. The only thing I like about Timex is the back lights on their watches.
Timex Ironman was my childhood watch, when my peers had casio I had the more premium ironman. I re-brought the oldskool version too. Also Arnold Schwarzenegger wore it in one of his films , so technically I had a movie watch too
I'm getting a bit of watch fatigue. I think timex has to move up market. People have phone now to tell the time. Watches are more jewelry that tell the time now. I also found this out. Before the pandemic, Rolex sales dropped 20%, Rolex bounce back as people bought Rolex as investment watches.
This video was brought to you by Timex. Just kidding Jory. Great content. I have a Charlie Brown Marlin and an Expedition Field watch. Don’t wear them too often but they are a great value proposition.
I love Ironmans. In my opinion the “classic” Ironman shock with 200m water resistance beats most other sports watches. I absolutely hate that they use snap on backs on most of their analogue watches. Especially that chrono you showed. The new heart rate iron man classic is great. Tracks steps, distance, calories, heart rate etc, doesn’t require a smart phone and looks like an Ironman class. Best part; a nice battery door that can be twisted open with the very CR2032 battery you’re about to install. They have hits and misses. For me, it’s all about the Ironman watches. I don’t like anything else they make.
Timex are very capable of making high quality watches. I have a couple of old Timex Helix (different to the current Helix range) that are amazing. One is a feature rush digital watch and the other a Swiss quartz analog chrono.
Timex had a factory in Dundee it was one of the worst industrial disputes in scotland culminating in timex walking away nobody in scotland would wear a timex ever
For some reason every Timex Ironman I have owned the display can’t be seen at any angle other than straight on when I were polarized sunglasses, which is every day. Riding my mountain bike, motorcycle, or driving my car. Not the end of the world but still annoying. It must be the way the apply the polarization. If the watch is on my left arm. No go. Right arm. No problem. Seeing as most people wear watches on their left arm they should reverse the polarization filter. Cheap Casio digitals mostly do the same thing. All my G-Shocks without exception, do not have this problem. Maybe Casio thought about this when building the G’s or maybe Ironman watches are for lefties?
Timex was my first "real" watch as a kid in the 70's. I'm happy to see them make a strong comeback!
I’ve still got my old Timex “Snoopy & the Red Baron” mechanical watch my parents bought me in about 1977. It still runs ok!
Timex and Casio are two of my favourite watch brands purely because that’s what I used to wear when I was younger and first getting interested in watches because they were affordable.
My first wristwatch was one of those digital superhero watches

Well damn. I guess I’m an idiot. I tried to do Timex and each watch I purchased (roughly 4) quickly panned out to be junk. I have no faith in their products. With their prices in the $200-300 range, I’d rather put that money into a Seiko or Citizen.
Tissot, Orient, Citizen, seiko, and even casio bring a good bang for your buck at that range
As usual you are right on target-ok tarjay. My first watches were timex from the 1960s. Around 34 mm, I have been looking at timex 34 mm quartz.
I got the Timex Ironman for any kind of gym, cycling, swimming, surfing, travelling to unsafe places. It cannot be beat.
Do not underestimate the timex weekenders and about 20 nato straps....3 different timex weekenders wear like 50 different watches!!! Lol, I love 'em
My father got me into Timex as a kid "take a licking and keeps on ticking!" The ironman is the choice of Jocko Wilink and he's a pretty hard dude.
I have 2 Timex watches in my collection, and I love both of them. Particularly fond of my Indiglo Expedition for stargazing/telescope parties. 👍
I bought the expedition which ended up being the trigger for me to buy the Khaki. The Expo still sits in the box and still gets wrist time.
I'm a big Timex fan, they make great affordable watches. I started with Timex, and will always own a few.
Great video regarding Timex! They were some of my first watches I wore when I was younger and never disappointed with them!
My wife's grandfather worked in the huge Timex factory in Dundee Scotland in the 80s. Sadly it closed down in the early 90s, and it led to massive unemployment in the area. Timex has always been a solid brand, with relatively inexpensive watches.
I'm considering buying a really cool mechanical watch and then replacing the movement with quartz.
As cool as the G-Shocks are the Ironman and Expedition watches are just easier to read and that's ultimately why they win out.
I had an iron man.. hated it and it cost near $100, though I have my grandfathers sleek and dressy Timex, and it eats batterjes, but it was his.
my favourite timex from the early y2k was the ironman with the FLIX technology, you flick your wrist and the indiglo came on , oh and its got this very nice and contrast greenish LCD screen
I think Timex is a great brand and I really like the Ironman Triathlon as a wear everyday watch.
I had a mechanical watch which changes background colour to temprature my aunt gifted me I really miss that watch 😢
Been thinking about the iron man for my jogger watch. Unfortunately, I just started a work out challenge for work and had to get a Fitbit🤢
I do love my Timex expedition chrono
Tag Heuer CV2014 Carrera all day long. Very high quality, great looks, horologically significant. Proud owner.
You don't have much luck with Timex!
Are kinetic watches any good semi automatic?
I’ve said it before, but if you can get your hands on a Expedition Rugged Field Men's Watch
T49626, do it. It’s a beautiful watch IMHO.👍🏻
I got 3 Timex watches in my collection. Fun affordable and cool watches. I love my Ironman 10 Lap so much. Awesome gym watch. Use it a lot
The indiglo and large numerical readout were great
I just got an Ironman. Will see how long it's gonna last.
I prefer timex digital display to casio because digits a bigger and it makes it mire readable.
I cant imagine ever choosing a Timex over a Rolex
Check out the dial on the Timex Waterbury traditional quartz.
Their Todd Snyder collection is really interesting. I have 2 of them, and I love the look.
They seem to go through batteries quicker than Casios, maybe due to louder alarms and brighter backlight. Perhaps this is an acceptable trade-off.
Love vintage Marlin.
Timex Ironman was my childhood watch, when my peers had casio I had the more premium ironman. I re-brought the oldskool version too. Also Arnold Schwarzenegger wore it in one of his films , so technically I had a movie watch too
I've always loved Timex , I own one , I wish they would return all manufacturing to Connecticut U.S.A , and close shop in Taiwan .
That expedition chrono starts at £70 here
I'm getting a bit of watch fatigue. I think timex has to move up market. People have phone now to tell the time. Watches are more jewelry that tell the time now. I also found this out. Before the pandemic, Rolex sales dropped 20%, Rolex bounce back as people bought Rolex as investment watches.
I agree. Saw ur review on timed field watch and ran out and bought it I wear it everyday!!!!
This video was brought to you by Timex. Just kidding Jory. Great content. I have a Charlie Brown Marlin and an Expedition Field watch. Don’t wear them too often but they are a great value proposition.
I like Timex as a brand and they have some cool collaborations, however most of them have terrible designs while the watch itself isn’t bad at all…
Timex was the watch from my childhood. Got myself a UFC rematch. Glad I got back into watches again thanks to a work colleague. 🤣
I have a Time world time quartz.. it’s one of my favorite watches!
If they could make a Weekender that didn't have a tick that could be heard from the next room, it would be my go to analog
The new Waterbury chronograph diver is stunning
"TIMEX, It takes a licking and keeps on ticking"...nuf said
They used to. A long long time ago...
@@patrickriarchy6054 Got my first Timex in 1970. Wish I still had it things get lost over the years.
You never mentioned the Q Timex GMT 38mm, which even though they’re quartz, they are some of the cheapest entry level GMTs on the market!
Timex are very capable of making high quality watches. I have a couple of old Timex Helix (different to the current Helix range) that are amazing. One is a feature rush digital watch and the other a Swiss quartz analog chrono.
I did think that the comparison with the Invicta was incredibly unfair to Rolex.
the [formerly] $45 Timex Expedition field watch is a classic. Mine keeps time to 1 sec per month. yeah
Timex had a factory in Dundee it was one of the worst industrial disputes in scotland culminating in timex walking away nobody in scotland would wear a timex ever
I just bought two indiglo weekenders ! :)
