My last discovered music genius!
Thanks to Eric Clapton, if it wasn't for him and the crossroads festival, I would never know this guy, as Clapton said and I coudn't agree more: "The Great, The Wonderful, My hero, Sonny Landreth!".
That man's hands could pack up, move out, each live independent and successful lives of their own, and he'd still have a universe in his head. Respect isn't quite enough...
Not only is Sonny a great musician, he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Thanks for posting this! I love Sonny, I've seen him about 30 times. From San Francisco to jazz fest... I would like to see him do a follow up album that has the same feel as south of i-10. That warm demeter amp sound. Blues are great and all, but his signature sound is not blues, it's like this. . the zydeco shuffle.... anyone else feel the same?
Exactly! Well put. I only saw him once. I-10 tour. Rochester NY. Met him at his hotel. The band was busy,as they got off the bus. Sonny came over to my beat up Ford bronco and I introduced myself and my hound. What a nice guy. He wanted me to bring my Bassett hound to the show that night 😁👍
In Louisiana, we know Sonny like we know Kermit, Shorty, Twelve, the Doctor, Wynton, Camille, Uncle Lionel, - such a treat to know all the great musicians down here like they're family.
Sonny is in a guitar class like Booker or Fess was on piano - his playing always leaves me gasping for air.

His greatness is really captured without the band. This piece reeks of "Mudbugs" and cornbread. It's amazing how he captures his surroundings in LA. Like most, I found him by accident, and THANK GOD I did. His talent is matched by his authentic grace and humanity. We're all very lucky have such a man become part of our live's, and bring us the joys he provides. What a treasure!!
The guitar sounds like its happy to be played like this.
My man..the king. It's been a long road growing up in his shadow, but not everyone has been blessed to sit at the feet of a true master...and that he is.
Guitars, tunings, amps, pedals...I can tell you all NONE of that matters...The man would sound like this no matter what is in his hands, or what he plugs into...I've watched it happen many many times. He's one of the few people that deserve the title 'genius'.

Thanks for the response and invite. I have checked it out, and it's like a candy store for a sugar addict. Thanks! Mr. Landreth has firmly sunk his talons into me, and as I discover new performances, I just shake my head with his talents and innovations. I love the venues all these clips are shot from...all country festivals or small clubs and bars...after all the recognition/awards/accolades he continues to perform for the "folks" in these small intimate venues. CLASS!!
I heard that Sonny's next album is supposed to be all instrumental and very acoustic - kind of a "Sonny Unplugged". His genius is at a level that he can do whatever he wants on the guitar and I'm happy.
Sonny is a true artist of the guitar.
Agreed, and I'm amazed at the number of sounds he extracts from that guitar. Most impressive it how he makes a Fender Strat sound like a resonator guitar. Sonny is immensely skilled and a national treasure.

I don't play, but I do appreciate. Sonny's playing at Rock 'n' Bowl Sunday night May 6, to close out Jazzfest. He'll be jamming with Tab Benoit for sure.
He has a new pure instrumental CD out which is excellent.
If anyone is in New Orleans tonight, come to Rock and Bowl and have your musical sensibilities expanded!

It is amazing. I have meet the music of Sonny Landreth, can listening and watch to great gitarist, nice voice because he is not pushing.....
...and I think with see video with Landreth music an swan: For the childeren, nice this way to meet this music........GREAT.

@BLUESCAFEApeldoorn haaa! insurance should influence the birthplace, to me what I love about Sonny's that sound so personal that it is his guitar, it's fantastic. Also I love the digital technology, using all ten fingers!

This song, Zydeco Shuffle first appeared some years ago on a various-artists slide guitar compilation CD titled "Slidin...sime Slide" from 1993. Those who are interested in charting his development as a guitar player might want to check out his earliest recordings that i know of, " Blues Attack" and "Down In Louisiana". U first heard him on John Hiatts' Slow Tirnung album and tour, been hooked ever since !!!! Adrian Legg (another incredible and unique guitarist that most have never heard of*) says that Sonny "really bridges the gap between resonator guitars and clipping vacuum tubes " !
*look for Adrian Legg you tube video entitled "pedal steel without pedals and busters ' funky fingers ". The song is called Midwest Sunday.

Do you play guitar or any other instrument(s)? You either do or appreciate music as it should be!:-) As a musician myself, who has no time for the garbage on the radio, Sonny has inspired me to find the spirit in music. He defines "under-rated" in the rest of the world and that's sad.
If there vis anyone that can play the same style as well as Sonny, I have yet to hear them. More fretting behind the slide than anyone else I have seen.

Probably. Who does Nothing but the Blood? Listen to more of Sonny and you will develop a true appreciation of his creativity and genius.
