Most excellent Mr. Landreth. I lost most of My organized music. RUclips has a good search engine. I couldn't remember your last name. My friend Barbara recommended I see you in Berwyn Illinois, {Fitzgerald's 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd} some years back. It was then, I became addicted too your style/playing
Started to go see Sonny in the early 90's and have seen him so many times I've lost count. EVERY show is phenomenal and you just can't believe what the guy can do. But perhaps the BEST thing is that after every show he hangs out to sign autographs and talk to fans. He is truly one of the nicest and most humble people you'll ever meet. A treasure.
I met Sonny shortly after South of I-10 came out. After we got his autograph I told him that "when I go to bed tonight I'm gonna thank God for giving you the talent to do what you can do, so I can listen to it". Sonny's reply was, I'm humbled. Since then I've talked him a few times and i aways tells him that again. and he'll humbly smile and we'll talk for a few minutes. He is a pretty down to earth guy.
I've seen Sonny many times, always puts on a great show. Saw him in the early 90's at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and he was one of 5 or 6 guitarists who where doing an afternoon workshop, each guy would play a song and then hang out behind the stage while the next guitarist did his thing..... It was Sonny's turn and ALL the guitarist game out to see who the hell was making the guitar sing the way only Sonny can... That's a memory I won't soon forget!
Sonny is the modern slide master. You can hear the bayou in his playing, the history, and his unique modern spin on the craft. A guitar player's guitar player. Dig me some Sonny
~~ always amazing when players can make it sound like more than one guitar is playing at the same time - some can just make blazing fast transition from a lead break to rhythm / chords etc. - while others may use effects of one kind or another to create an illusion of more than one - but this is on a whole different level - love Sonny's playing ..
I always feel great after listening and admiring his wonderful talent/skills... he really masters all the sounds that can possibly come out from a guitar... I've known about him for about 8 years and I'm always amazed of what he can do... Thank you very much Sonny for putting a smile on our face and a peaceful feeling into our hearts...No wonder Eric Clapton said that he felt honored and privileged to share the stage with Sonny...Thanks again and please don't stop playing...
I sat down with Sonny and it was...thoroughly comfortable. As a musician, he inspires wonder and inspiration. Couldn't be a nicer human being. I told him I spent the COVID lockdown decoding "Native Stepson". He seemed genuinely pleased. A nice moment. The tune is a show stopper every time. Thanks, Mr. Landreth. (I'm going to start on this tune...hopefully soon!)
Been listening to Sonny Landreth for over 30 years. His Panama Limited is one of the most incredible songs I have ever heard. I swore I was actually hearing the sounds of a train played entirely on his guitar. He is an outstanding blues man.
Love Sonny, saw him twice with Mr. Hiatt. I love the video where John says, " We're goin to Memphis, Sonny's drivin." He's my all-time fav slide along with Duane.
Absolutely amazing and done with such grace, groove and grit! I pray for healing for the 9 who are suffereing witn tinitus. Sonny is one of my all tme 3 faves on the slide.
I wish with all my heart I could play slide like Mr. Landreth. This guy does things on his guitar this make my head spin. Always a treat to hear him play and even more so live.
At the very least, one of the greatest slide guitarists of all time! Possibly the greatest! And he's really got feel, too. None of this "Finger Olympic" stuff that so many people are into these days! Like I tell my students, "you don't get paid per note!!"
Big Smile! I SO want to dance whenever I listen to this, but it's hard to dance when your jaw has hit the floor and you have to drag it around as you shuffle your feet.

That makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and made me post my first ever comment on RUclips
Absolutely bloody awesome.
One man and a guitar is all you need to make some great music. One on a million.
27 people got their head knocked as a child. Damn Sonny is one of the greats, one of the best slide guitairst, if not the best.
All I can say to this mind-blowing performance is wow
Sonny is like Albert Lee,everyones favourite but not really commercially sucessful. Both have given so much pleasure.

Pulling my jaw up from the floor. Unbelievable playing.

The behind the slide fretting is amazing. Not an easy technique to learn and he does it like a Master that he is.
One of the best slide players out there!! Thank you for sharing.

Must have listened to this a thousand times, and am amazed every time...that a human is even capable of this.

Sonny is so fantastic he is in a class all his own! The 6 who voted him down must not know what good music & talent are or they are just IDIOTS.

Sonny's right hand is so sublime! All the muting and fretting "behind" the slide make him one of a kind.

I heard Sony play in Toronto in the early 80's with Junior Brown. He is a southern Louisiana Cajun slide master! " End of Story! "
Happy Sunday night❣ thanks for posting!

Magnifique !!!
I think you two know each other..Very Nice..!!
This video has about one hundred million views too few.

When he plays you have it all. And that's it!
An incredible talent, and although this is entirely off topic, he's really cute looking!
