Smoking Ban: MPs Will Vote on Plan to Raise Smoking Age and Ban Vapes

- MPs will vote today on plans to prevent future generations from being allowed to smoke. The legislation will raise the legal age for buying cigarettes in England by one year, each year until it applies to the whole population. Disposable vapes will also be banned outright, with reusable ones limited to four flavours.
Professor Chris Whitty says vapes 'themselves are not safe' as the majority of them have nicotine in them. He adds that 'we don't know the extent of the long-term effect of vapes.'
smoking is responsible for around 80,000 deaths annually and is the UK’s single biggest preventable killer, costing the NHS and economy an estimated £17 billion a year-far more than the £10 billion annual revenue from tobacco taxation.

If politicians were more concerned about real life issues that would be better, they have ruined our beautiful country.
Spot on. They are the problem !!!
Mickey mouse news, leave us alone! who wants a Marlborough can have as they wish!
How will they pay for it? The money that is used for hospitals comes from National Insurance when £11 million people dont pay it plus millions more that comes from abroad that dont pay either. I think that certain illnesses caused by Extreme sports, smoking, vaping, should be covered by Private medical care. People that have fallen over that go to A&E ? There should be other places they attend that are not emergencies this would free up a lot of money. Why does every hospital have a different operating system? this makes no sense
Never mind the long term affects of vapes, what about your mRNA Covid vaccines, which had minimal testing?
Why don’t they ban the boats - that’s extremely bad for ones health
How is it ?

How about mind your own business and let adults do what they want.
It will help the nhs reduce number of future smoke/vape related diseases thus reducing patients overload from smoking. Which will ultimately help you British.

Stop tell people what they can and can't do that's not the job of the government.
@support_people_not_evil Smoking brings in a huge amount more money in tax than the NHS spends on dealing with smoking related illness, the NHS will be far worse off without the tax money from smokers. Google it, there's Guardian articles on it.
MP's need to stop telling people how to live their lives as that is not what their job is and start doing their actual job of administering the running of the country.
Nailed it on the head my man, run the country not our daily lives, all this will do is create a black market

Im sure a ban will work. Just like banning cannabis has....
Caning, detentions and cigarette confiscation and the significant expense of smoking never stopped kids smoking at my school. People will smoke if they want to whatever laws are brought in.
What this law will eventually achieve is a very vibrant black market; as exists for cheap cigarettes with no taxes paid, as it is with cannabis for personal use and all that. You can’t legislate a ban against a habit. Rather you fund services that help stop the addiction and invest in counter-addictive messaging. This isn’t rocket science
In about 10 years, I will have to search for tobacco dealers 😂😂 If this country and everything as we know will survive at all, considering all the warfares and far-right that does surround us

But why is it all about smoking, what about alcohol??? No1 ever talks about the dangers of alcohol, there's me thinking we was on a democracy but apparently they are taking the right to choose away, if they can do this what else will they stop us doing in the future
Smokers are a minority group now, if it went to a referendum I'd vote with the smokers even though I've never smoked. I'd just like them to stop littering....
You forget the government can stop us doing anything they want if they declare an emergency and get the MSM to coerce more than half the country that it's for our own safety!
Exactly! But they make to much money on alcohol tax. AND, non of them would give up their tipples
Unlike alcohol, where repeated excess can have negative consequences, there is no safe dose for smoking.
@paulcampbell840 but, how many kids get hold of it, is my point. And there absolutely is a limit for where its safe. Personally and for the effects it has on society as a whole.
@@kizzywytch There's some alcohol which is good for you in moderation. That's not the same with smoking.
Why not ban alcohol then...no? Thought not. Stay out of our private lives
How about the stress this Government has caused due to lock downs that were not needed.

It feels as though this country is starting to model itself on North Korea. Ffs, stop interfering in the trivial stuff and concentrate on stuff people care about - like the mass invasion taking place daily on the Kent beaches.
Klaus Swabb says hello 👋
7:50 _"... but we know that, multiple things, that if you inhale them compared to if you eat them, can be extremely dangerous"._ - and yet In the UK and US several hundred 'traditional' additives are permitted in tobacco because they are considered safe as _food_ additives, but little to no enquiry ever seems to have been made into how much they add to the detrimental effects of smoking, which beyond any doubt many of them do. A blanket ban of ALL (or practically all) additives to tobacco would see a substantial reduction in smoking related illness (will never happen of course).

Has this man ever heard of the disaster that was the Prohibition in the States? It had to be reversed. It is to be hoped that this smoking ban will also have to be reversed if it passes through Parliament.
Does this mean they're going to stop the boats then ,???
No, there's no plan to stop them. Not now not ever.
safe and effectuve he said and was wrong on that point
If smoking gets banned then alcohol needs to get banned, both are a drain on the NHS.
well, if you ban vapes, you should've done that earlier, now all of them are going to transition to cigarettes.
they will just buy the non-disposable ones which are far stronger. but rishi's mate sell those, now wonder why the disposables are being banned eh?
Someone should make a programme of these so called mp and go into there homes and see how they live and what they do in theyre spare time . And ban food and drink in Parliament.
Ban everything except caviar and champagne. The uncleaned classes can't afford those items.
Horrendous habit , do something about the tobacco companies, everyone knows that prohibition DOES NOT WORK..
Teenagers, myself included, start because they are NOT allowed.
I am 62 , it is the one thing I can't beat .
Let’s focus on the war in Europe and the Middle East and how much that is costing the tax payer. Ciggerettes and vapes causing damage to health and a strain on the nhs should be the least of our problems.

@@watcheronly71 its forcing you instead but they are dictat""ors so they will force us too do alot even go to war soon
@@watcheronly71 You’re telling adults not to smoke …
@@ClownHunt123 yeah cause smoking suks
Well, they took away the sweet cigarettes because they said it encouraged kids to smoke. Kids like to mimic grown ups. So we gave adults vapes and the kids copied them. I liked sweet cigs, a liquorice pipe but I never became a smoker. However I still like sweets. When one considers the effect of government on people perhaps it is them that need banning.
Basically were getting controlled as usual
And sweeties shouldn’t be promoted to children either of course . Extremely harmful,
Power mad, Smaller Gov, Fewer regulations
The biggest issue with disposable vapes is that they contain a lithium battery and electronics.
You see a lot of disposable vapes chucked on the streets.
Admittedly there's loads of other stuff we should worry about, but we shouldn't have wee waste lying around on the streets.
Wish he’d said it about the vacks
I haven’t had a cigarette in 7 years . My morning cough has gone and I have not had one chest infection since . Banning vapes will make me go back to smoking sadly and would significantly shorten my life .
Same with me, I vape to steer clear of my past cigarette addiction.
Or just have some will power.
@@superspecky4eyes we are humans . We like things that maybe aren’t so good for us . Just look at all the obese people . I’m a healthy slim weight . More people are unhealthy from eating too much but no government seems to do much about that .

They're banning disposable vapes specifically, you can still vape. Media literacy is still down the toilet I see.
Whitty looks like he's had a few dodgy vapes
In my town, go into any 'corner shop' just after school emptying and you'll find a constant stream of teenagers choosing their flavour of disposable vape from a floor-to-ceiling wall of them behind the counter.
How about stopping the excess of sugar and salt put into food and drink which gets into children food and drink just look into children obesity down to excess sugar and salt ?
Cant stand looking at Dr death
Poverty does more damage ,WHAT is the government doing about that ! !
2 people smoking, cop ask their ages, arrests one and not the other. The one arrested was born one day after the other.
How the f**k is that going to work ?
yup...talking will be banned soon
ffs are you kidding me? this is our "conservative" party??
It’s corner shops and newsagents that sell to kids.
Yes when they've travelled back home and got them ,countries a big joke .
Have they got nothing better to do? The country is in ruins and they rant on about vaping. They dont seem to say much about exhaust fumes which everyone breathes in and is 100 times more toxic. Oh but less cars on the road means less money for the Government....
What about the smoking in the House of Commons toilets , and the bar? Are you going to stop Penfold Gove getting his three lines?
When they started the ridiculous tax increases many started going to cheaper alternatives which are unregulated and much more damaging to the health of the person so him saying the numbers of people buying cigarettes went down yes they did but the black market grew obviously he is misinformed
why don’t you feel as strongly about alcohol and the health effects and how much it costs the NHS? when are we having that banned?
As a vaper , they should ban disposables, they are late. Major damage to the environment and waste of lithium.
Witty has lost all credibility
How can this man show his face.
He's got some nerve hasn't he?
So out of touch its scary
Banning vapes it's the most pressing issue in UK now ? Seriously? Why do I feel that they are always distracting us with useless stuff instead of tackling the real problems ???
MRNA is safe😂😂😂😂
Apart from myocarditis, turbo cancers and a few other minor ailments, yes it's safe
This man has not got a good track record...look to the past.
On the contray, I was a smoker and would always finish a cigarette. I now vape and in comparison take just a couple puffs. Its much much healthier, I am 63 with no smoking related health issues. If i could go back to 1985 I would never have started, such a waste of money (80+% taxation).
My body my choice.
15 year olds were buying cigarettes or vapes? From where?... Does this law change literally anything, because to me it seems pointless. More nothingburger.
Hang on....they are already 18 plus to buy, but you are admitting that you can't enforce that otherwise marketing wouldn't matter, ... so how are you going to enforce the new age limits on cigarettes....
It's not gong to make indifferent the perants buy them for the kids like they did with cigs back in the day thought we were a free country
I am not going to comply with those rules
and behind that counter i see fruity flavoured vodkas. i assume they are 'aimed at children' too eh?
Christ Whitty asking us to believe him!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's ridiculous! Talk about goverment overreach.
How does Susan know that people who vape, vape all day? 😅
Its not about stopping people from vaping becaue vapjng actually helps with stop smoking tobacco. These people want people to continue smokjng tobacco
I am also wondering for years now, why there’s no vape-alike inhalers for saline (1% physiological salts and 99% water, sometimes menthol as an addition) - such inhalations are apparently recommended for some respiratory issues, vape-shape would be much more convenient than an inhaler that needs a table top…
Welcome to the Nanny State UK. We are no longer free to free choice. Are they going after alcohol next?. It's nearly just as bad as smoking especially when idiots drink and drive
instead of getting the house to vote, what about asking the public if they want them or not, after all these people work for us, not we work for them, this big brother state is getting out of hand now, how much freedom do we have now.
as someone who smokes and tried plenty of times tried to give up its not easy to give up
you're an addict - it's that simple
This is the best decision for young generation because it is too much addictive as some of our old generation is regretting in their life during emergency situation
Lots of colours and flavours of alcohol too. It's really not difficult to poke holes in their logic.
Corner shops ,barbers garages will have a field day .
What's he doing about classA drugs?
The amount of people I personally know who vape all day long, and have never ever had an actual real cigarette in their lives is unreal.
Why would anyone choose to use a vape when you’ve never even smoked properly at all at any point in your life?? I can only conclude that they are either as thick as mince, missing a chromosome or more than likely, both.
Ah the UK, finally thinking about doing something in a half arsed way that it should have done 50+ years ago. Well done, everyone.
they put half the tobacco & alcohol manufacturers in the house of lords instead!
Yeah lets trust the guy who guided us through covid pmsl
Smoking is like doing drugs, right? What's wrong with banning smoking? Should we embrace lung cancer?
Increased Age-Adjusted Cancer Mortality After the Third mRNA-Lipid Nanoparticle Vaccine Dose During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Japan
I used to smoke and now vape. Thank you for this segment. Own a variety of colors and flavors, and they have amazing decorations and light up with flames and rockets and whatever else to let you know how much charge and juice is left. Back to boring packaging, especially in person. Nicotine is addictive yet is a mental enhancement and appetite suppressant and aids in preventing Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. I've slapped on a patch or had a lozenge for various exams and busy projects over decades. Looking forward to what Science brings us in the decades to come, pros and cons.
My Nanna smoked everyday since she was 16 (working in hosiery factories) and she had alzheimers and parkinsons.
I’m normally against Big government & intervention in people’s lives but in this case, I really think this is a good thing. Personally I have never smoked or vaped but the amount of people my age in their early-mid 20s I see vaping despite having never smoked is ridiculous….it has become a whole separate epidemic onto itself.
If you're in your twenties maybe learn it's up to the individual government has no right banning it especially when we have fluoride in water chemicals in foods ect much more dangerous things then smoking. Might as well ban sugar
He said he shouldve locked down earlier?? God help us.
Yep raise the age so young people will commit an offenc which will generate income.ban vapes because the revenue has dropped since vape took off, so it's a win win for the government!!
