Yeah, 1 iii has US version that you can actually buy and use in US. Not so much with 5 iii. Us version of 5 iii was announced long time ago and was "Released" at some point but it never made it to the retail and still listed as "COMING SOON" (even on the Sony website) or something of that nature. Considering the fact that 5 IV is about 6 months away I'm not even sure if 5 iii will ever arrive.
not sure in other places, but in SG you get the Xperia 1 III with the WF-1000MX4, their latest wireless noise cancelling earbuds. hard to justify if its just for the bigger screen alone
there are some other things, like 4k screen on the 1 iii, also has wireless charging, more memory, - the 5 iii, dont have a lot - well a few extras, not sure if its worth 300 difference - but to each their own
Who needs 4k on a mobile? Plus it consumes more battery. Wireless charging is overrated. The more compact size and battery life is what I value more. The 5 iii is a tall phone dispite being a "compact" phone.

There is another Sony phone on the market called Xperia Pro-i. It has all the specs of the Xperia 1iii but actually has a 1inch sensor with all the Alpha-tech software included. It's probably the only phone on the market designed for pro photography, really worth considering if you are in to that sort of thing

I've recently bought the Xperia 1 iv and can confirm it can record 4k 120fps across all lenses. Still learning how to use the Cinema/video pro app, but so far this tech is mind blowing for a phone! I have never seen this much control of a camera(s) on a mobile phone before! I'm going to do a video shoot for a friends RUclips channel made entirely on my Xperia 1 iv. Some of the test footage looks promising so far.
If the 5 mark 3 had the the same 4k screen and memory of the 1 mark 3, Id defo choose the 5 mark 3. I've been waiting years for small phone like this. Allows me to use the phone and have a tablet on the side
Honestly, unless you plan to view the pixels through a microscope, don't let it stop you. The 5iii screen is still gorgeous. There's also a decent difference in battery life between the 5iii and 1iii which is at least partly attributable to this. Check out the GSMarena tests in their reviews.
I also though that moving from 4k display from X1 to FHD X5 II is bad thing. But when you actually use 1080 phone, you cant even see pixels even if you bring your phone close to your eyes. Now I realize how dumb I was 😊
Sony Xperia 5 III was announced back in April and still not available in US and most like going to be discontinued before it hits the shelves. Sony doesn't want to comment on it. In UK it is scheduled to go on sale in mid December (according to Amazon.uk). Asian version not compatible with 5G in US. I'd call it a paper launch. Let us know when you get 5 IV, maybe that one will be available for public in US.

Wireless charging does reduce a lot of wear on your USB connector which is very nice.
