Growing up, I hardly ate it because it was considered "poor people food" that was made when provisions were scarce. I've even heard people refer to it ignorantly as 'dog food'. That is probably why you've never had it before. So I don't remember people making often. Now I'm here because I'm craving it🙂.
I always make mistakes when cooking so I like tips to fix them. Tip: if the cornmeal is grainy when you pour it out or if it’s liquid like, put it in a baking dish and bake at 375 for 20-30 minutes. This just happened to me and I was petrified as others are partaking in the meal so I had to think fast. It came out just perfect and when it’s cooled I slice it like a cake. I also used coconut milk in my recipe 😉
I have never made this, think I only eat it once,,I remember growing up people use to say its dog food,,how things and times have changed, thanks for showing us how to make this,,the Italians call this polenta,,they dont put salt fish in it though.

Went to a 4 stars all inclusive hotel in Jamaica, tried this out of curiosity, had a fancy name and didn’t know what it was until I tasted it. It was delicious but I told the waitress this was turn cornmeal with minced beef 😍🥰 got me a second serving 😂 maybe the name was different because of the owners. The food there was amazing with a mix of Jamaican cuisine, Latin etc😍😍

@@thespicykitty Hi! You probably had a tamale pie 😋😋 So happy to have you here! Have fun with recipes 😁😁😁
Dogs a eat better than we. This is a very healthy dish.
we call it fungee...n sometimes we add lentil peas or sometimes we make it plain but we don't put no saltfish in it...
Where are you from? In the past I saw my mom add peas to it and she said she learned that from a friend.
Yes fungi or fungee yep
Which country?
In the Virgin islands we call it Fungi but we only add okra to it and we make a ball like fufu and eat it with boil fish or saltfish
🤤🤤
