The mental image of Ynnead slicing slaanesh open and having an ocean of twisted and screaming eldar souls pour out of him, and him SURVIVING, is such a great visual and probably even more fitting for the lore too. It would definitely weaken him, but he wouldn’t get benched for very long like in AOS. I imagine getting cut open is very painful (shocker), so what if slaanesh survives being cut open by feeding off of his own extreme pain.
As for the eldar, not entirely sure what would happens with them tbh. What would they need their spirits stones for now?

Honestly, the Ynnari plotline could've actually gone somewhere. I doubt GW would've killed off Slaanesh, but the Eldar having their strongest god on the field would at least give them a fighting chance. Could end up being a situation similar to AoS where who wins is more uncertain rather being a guaranteed Chaos victory like the story of 40k has been so far, how Warhammer Fantasy was up until the End Times where Chaos did win, and how some GW writers themselves said that a Chaos victory isn't a matter of if, but when.
Just kind of defeats the purpose of rooting for any other side of one is guaranteed a victory.

I think ynari shuold prepare a big assoult to slaanesh's palace to take the cronesword, all of their troops ready to jump in the warp enter the portals... and then for some immaterium shenanigans just miss their spot. They aren't in slaanesh's palace but in nurgle's garden. But not all hope is lost, there they can liberate isha, maybe with the help of leman russ who is searcing for the three of life (which corrisponds to isha). The way the Ynari worked, at least in 9th, was you could combine all eldar factions as a single army, including harlequins and Drukhari. Only catch is for every Drukhari/harlequin unit you use, you need to add a craftworld unit of the same role whether that be troops and such. Though it wasn’t as popular I believe as you lose many benefits each unit/model gets from their respective faction. Along with the fact that most abilities relied on you having to be at half strength (where your unit is down to half of what they were, like 5 models remain in a 10 model unit), something that, to me at least, isn’t as good given how fragile they are. Since a 5 man squad of tactical marines could do decent damage given they would he wounding on 3’s and cause of rapid fire. More than likely either killing the eldar unit entirely or reducing them to an amount that won’t make the ability matter as much.

Tabletop Ynnari exists to justify Eldar soup. You make Yvraine your warlord and then you can field Aeldari, Drukhari, and Harlequins together. There are some lore restrictions like you can't have Phoenix Lords and Harlequin Solitaires but that is really it.
If GW want to develop the Eldar more they should have Yvraine or the wider Ynnari help oust Vect from Commorragh to unify/combine the Aeldari and Drukhari armies into one force. Also start making Exodites models. Space elves riding dinosaurs with laser beams is something that sells itself.

@@ghost101049 Exodites would really only work as an army if the Ynnari become the Elf mega faction. Exodites are basically Wood Elves and the Craftworlds are High Elves. Where Craftworlds are trying to preserve the Eldar Empire's culture (without the blood orgies) and tried to evacuate to escape Slannesh, Exodites saw the decadence of the pre-fall Eldar Empire and completely removed themselves from the greater Eldar society and live in isolationist communities on their worlds. By our standards they are still pretty advanced but for Eldar they are living in anarchy-primivitist communes. Craftworld and Dark Eldar dont really talk to them but they have defended their communities out of solidarity.

personally my theory on vashtor is that hes been playing abbadon from the start, abbadon hates the worship of chaos, its just a means to an end for him to fuck over the imperium, which we all know GW is VERY< VERY unlikley to do. And even as strait faced as vashtor is, thats actually how he tricks deamons into becoming deamon engines. Normaly, deamons always speak in half truths and lies to eachother, so when vashtor doesn't lie at all, other deamons think he means something else and fall for it. This shows that vashtor is not at all above lying too, manipulating, and using others for his own gain, and thus combined that compared to abbadon destorying the imperium a 5th chaos god does next to nothing to rock the boat for GWs main money maker, makes me think whats most likley is abbadon is being fooled.

    • @TempestsFist
      @TempestsFist Год назад +9

Personally if a story has any canonical time progression I absolutely need to see changes in the structure of the world to stay interested. It's one thing to say "here's the 'end' of the canonical timeline. now it's up to tabletop players to imagine what happens next" than it is to say "We'll keep writing stories and give this world progression, but won't actually allow the Status Quo to change or dramatically alter any of the big players".
The former I can respect. Sometimes you just have to call an end at some point. But in the later case I find nothing but constant annoyance that the 'progression' and 'new storylines' aren't actually allowed to change the world at all. Don't lie to me and pretend you're making big things happen and shaking things up when you will never allow yourself to upset the Status Quo.
In other words I'm kind sad the Yinnaed plot line fell through and that they almost certainly won't let Vashtor go all the way either. I also think I can see a path they are likely to take with the Farsight Enclaves and I can't say I'd be happy if I'm right. Likewise the Votaan are kind of a nothing burger and I don't see Gaz actually making any significant difference at least for a while (Tyranids are getting the attention they kind of deserved). Here's to hoping they eventually allow one of the traitor Primarchs to die or even redeem themselves, would like to see a major shakeup in the formula like that.

it's idiotic to keep a story stagnant, you can only write "and suddenly the heroic space marine, guided by the emperor, killed the bad guy" so many ways before you're sick of it. and considering how much shit gw has put out lately, to keep things as they are, they need to just progress things and let characters die and new things pop up.

I don't see ynnari leaving tabletop, they basically function as a way to play all eldar factions together which is something they provide for all large factions in certain ways, like agents of the imperium. They'll take a backseat role in lore for sure but there's no real need to get rid of them since the sword being in Slaanesh's Palace is the perfect stall for them. Also I think there is one way they could do it, and it would be brokering a deal with Kaldor Draigo to have him go get it for them, which is possibly why the grey knights are after them, it's GW setting up the next conflict they'll resolve and have a mutual goal, finding Draigo.

"for the throne to function at the highest peak.. it must first cease to function.. that then it could be worked on"
    ~golden lineage
(Plus the mechanicus has probably been slowly attempting to drain the life force of the emperor through the function of the golden throne. Probably because of some warp influence shenanigans... ultimately leading to the golden thrones current fucked up condition... Plus a lot of dead weight that has been sitting there for what... centuries probably a lot longer. But still.
Also the reason why the drukari well the dark eldar most likely sees more benefit from reviving the emperor of mankind than removing...
For one simple reason... the emperor of mankind if I'm not mistaken has been trying to deal with the problem of chaos for a very long time... also the reason why he's stuck upon the Golden throne... they would have probably investigated... because yes a homunculus might help but ultimately stunts any possible growth of said individual it was made after.. the homunculus could be comparable to a new born baby made as a full grown adult with knowledge and skills pre-understood from the moment it came to life. Still lacking a past. But can be very intelligent if the homunculus doesn't get lost in the maze of its own skills and what not...
Along with there is only so much you can do the information gathered first hand upon the original subjugation attempt of Terra before... well you know.. slenesh tore them a new asshole literally..
Then it went one of two directions... the eldari. And the dark eldari resulting in acceptance and avoidance.
Where the eldari would likely have nothing to do with the dark eldari or the imperium... the dark eldar would ultimately attempt a way to circumvent their fate through the emperor... of course they would not be loyal for say... but ultimately it would boil down to
"You got us into this mess you can get us out"
From the perspective of both lineages..)

Story lines I think are perfect for the setting and ways to bring back the loyalist primarchs well sort of. (Yes including Clone Fulgrim)
For context I will first say what happened to them and why they haven't returned before the story outline to bring them back.
    Jaghati Khan:
When Jaghati chased the Dark Eldar into the webway he got lost. He was eventually found and taken by Cegorach and held until he is needed.
Abaddon and Vashtorr use the key and open the lock which takes them to the black library and home of the Harlequins and the greatest knowledge ever. Cegorach unleashes Jaghati to try and stop Vashtorr and Abaddon gaining all the ancient knowledge.
    Omegon: (Yes he's loyal)
Omegon has been active in the setting without us even knowing it.
Despite trying to play both sides Omegon with his chapter of loyal Alpha Legion can't help himself and begins to assist The Lion in Nihilus and goes ahead of the Dark Angels forces to soften up their targets but gets caught out by Chaos. Now an enemy of both Chaos and the Imperium Omegon makes the choice to reveal himself to The Lion and tell him a great secret to try and convince him of his loyalty.
    Dorn:
The secret from Omegon is that he saved Dorn from death during the first black crusade. He kept Dorn safe and smuggled him onto an Alpha Legion ship and placed in stasis so he could recover. The plan was perfect except thd ship was attacked by The Eldar and lost to the warp.
The ship Dorn is on is finally discovered by the Charcaradons on the galactic edge but the crew are all dead and they can't revive Dorn, only Omegon can so they begin a campaign to find Omegon but chaos Alpha Legion warbands discover the truth and hunt them down.
    Corax:
Corax has been in the warp fighting and killing demons and Chaos warbands on his own as a crazy Raven Demon.
News comes to him through his victims that Omegon has been discovered to be apparently loyal. Corax decides to find out for himself and re-enters real space but he gets pursued by his own chapter who believe he has fallen because of his demonic raven appearance and they hunt him while trying to keep it a secret.
    Clone Fulgrim:
So we know he's at Trayzn's museum.
Trayzn's museum gets attacked by a splinter hive fleet who see it as the ultimate store of DNA they can use to further evolve. As Trayzn's forces begin to fall he makes the only move he can and releases Clonegrim and all the astartes from the 18 space marine legions he has in storage. The space marines destroy the Tyranid and because Trayzn gets injured they manage to escape on ships Trayzn also had in storage. They re-enter the galaxy as a massive force but with some knowing of the heresy and some unaware leading to trouble all while Fulgrim tries to unite them.
    Russ:
Russ tried to get to the tree of life but got lost in the warp where his ship has been adrift with him fighting demonic incursions while also trying to remain anonymous to the great powers.
Russ is discovered by the released Eldar god Isha who guides him to the gates under Commaragh where Russ battles demons and his sanity to try and reach Vect.
    Vulkan:
Vulkan has been trapped in the warp with Gork and Mork after the waaagh energy transported him there. With no memory he has been drifting through the warp.
The warp opens up amd spits him out in the systems of the Farsight Enclaves who just so happen to be under attack from an Orc Waaagh that threatens to overwhelm them. Vulkan with no memory vows to help Commander Farsight destroy the Orcs.
    Ferrus Manus:
He's dead and his soul is with The Emperor.
As the warp becomes stronger and stronger in the galaxy Ferrus soul begins to manifest in real space helping his sons. Knowing their father is trying to return the Iron Hands head straight for Terra and The Emperor to revive him but Demon Fulgrim pursues them trying to prevent his brothers return.
    Sanguinius:
He's dead and his soul is scattered.
He can only return durung the end times for 40k but his return is the result of a deal made between The Emperor and Tzeentch who piece his soul back together and his new vampiric demonic form returns to slaughter anything in his path.

Something to keep in mind about the stagnation of the Ynnari plotline: that used to be the norm for all of 40k. The story never changed or progressed beyond the occasional story update at the conclusion of a rare, global campaign.
The fact that there's story progression at all is a fucking godsend, cuz it didn't exist until 7th/8th edition. 13 year old me is losing his mind that there are playable primarch models that aren't Golden Demon conversions.
This isn't an Old Man Yells At Clouds thing, I just think that taking a massive, generally stagnant, sandbox setting and injecting a progressing narrative is going to create some missteps and I think that's what happened with the Ynnari. They were too large of a paradigm shift in a period of massive paradigm shifts.

  • @1bentradio

GW could move the Ynnead plot line forward by having Cegorach either trick or outright steal the Crone Sword from Slaanesh and give it to the Ynnari. Cegorach is already known to trick Slaanesh and save the souls of Harlequins from being devoured when they die. I'm sure they could have Cegorach and the Harlequins/Ynnari pull off a heist to get the Crone Sword, or something similar.
