Washington State man here: THANK YOU. I LOVE my State. I have lived in Washington most of my life, but I have worked in and lived in Cali, Texas (Texas rules) Ohio, PA, AZ, and a few others. Washington State remain my favorite, and I'd rather live in WA then anywhere else in the world. It has everything I like: rain, trees, mountain, hills, valleys, lakes, large rural sections, national forests, a coast, and relatively relaxed gun laws for a blue state. So I love WA. But our flag makes me cringe. A seal is meant to be on printed pieces of paper where it can be seen and read. Not a flag, where it can't. Further, if you have to state what you're representing on your flag, your representation has failed. And, for that matter, most of the flag is just a solid color. Finally, since these state seal flags aren't distinctive or original, they're boring, and so no one ever sees them, and they inspire no state pride. WA deserves a better flag.

If you want corrections, C stands for centennial, CO being the "centennial state" because we became a state in 1876, and the red symbol on the NM flag is called a Zia. It's a Puebloan symbol, and represents the four directions, the four times of day, the four stages of life, and the four seasons, which comprise the full circle of life.

The stars in the in middle represent the other flags that have "flown" over Arkansas. Arkansas was a Spanish colony, then French, then British (the last two might be backwards), and then it switched hands between those nations several times before the LA purchase. Unfortunately, a fourth flag briefly flew over our state, hence the fourth star. I honestly think it should inverse. Three stars on top, one hard lesson on the bottom.
Arkansas was never a British colony. All of the lands west of the Mississippi River went to Spain after the French and Indian War.

I nominate Fredericksburg for Virginia (white background, blue St. Andrew’s Cross in reference to the civil war, 2 stalks of wheat (lots of farmers close by), and a knight’s helmet (kinda don’t like the helmet, but I am gonna buy this flag at some point and toss into my collection))

the 8th star on the alaskan flag is not for the "future of alaska." that star is actually Polaris (the North Star) which can be located in the sky if you draw an extended line after connecting the two stars that form the top right and bottom right of the dipper. You forgot Oklahoma! Oklahoma’s flag is awesome and is not a state seal, it has combinations of symbols from its history as the Indian Territory and its eventual opening to general settlement. You also forgot a fun fact about Oregon’s flag: it has a different image on its reverse side. I like flags too and collect them from the places I visit.

Not sure why you would feel sad even if it were true. The good news is, that "brother thing" must be ancient history. Texans seem to detest California and it's residents. Just need to read comments from Texans re: anything CA related on you-tube to see what they think. It's never anything positive. Not sure what the disdain stems from. I never see or hear Californians making derogatory remarks about Texas. Not sure what the beef is about. Perhaps it's politically motivated stemming from CA being a liberal state and TX being a conservative state. But even that doesn't explain it logically since there are other states that are liberal and Texans don't seem to have issues with those states. I never see derogatory comments directed towards other states, only CA. Maybe knowing this will make you feel better! :) lol.

Hawai‘i’s flag is designed like that because King Kamehameha I was given a Union Jack as a gift and he flew it at his palace. He also flew a U.S. flag later to symbolize friendly relations with the U.S., someone told him that flying another country’s flag might make people think they are a colony of said country (foreshadowing I guess) he had the current flag designed to represent both the U.K. and U.S., and of course the amount of main islands.
