I mean, come on. You don’t go near this song unless you have superior talent every where in your band. This is easily, easily the best cover of a Clapton song I’ve ever heard. These guys are the best cover band on RUclips.
absolutely correct mate and I speak as someone who once said 'excuse me' to Eric Clapton while I was trying to get served in a busy bar in St John's Wood, he didn't reply.
Nope Derek Trucks by a country mile mate
Check out 2 other great cover bands (1) Leonid and Friends and (2) Lexington Lab Excellent !!!

I know your heart stopped for a second when his bloody brilliant voice kicked in… wtf that was amazing
You are so right. This young man should be making millions with that soulful voice
Ha I pressed play and closed my phone cover, heard the voice, and had to look as I thought they actually had Clapton singing
LOL!!! It sure did! I was like "what?!! wait a minute'
This lead singer kicks ass. Sings this just like Clapton. The line, "like a fool, I fell in love with you' hits me hard when I think of the poor choices I've made with 2 ex wives.
Same. Ha ha
Dusty, is an amazing singer. His range is ridiculous and his falsetto is world class. If you like to hear more of how good his voice is, check out HSCC version of Jeff Buckleys Everybody Here Wants You. It will blow your mind
@@andreghouse9192 And the Chain.. by Fleetwood Mac... he is phenomenal on that one.
yes
Eric Clapton has himself said that this is incredibly difficult for any band to do - chord changes etc. this was performed incredibly well
On the record the main riff goes up and then next time around, goes down - a two-part riff or variation; nowadays - even Clapton - everyone just goes up and repeat...
Dusty should do a cover of tearing us apart.
It's not hard, but it's gooood :)
Three guitars, I guess so
How about a massive shout out for the drums. This was pure energy and very well done. But let's face it, the drums was the heartbeat of this song. Great job everyone.
Brad rocks and sings. What more could you ask for?
@Mark Taylor I must agree mate outstanding drummer !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
Yes all performed great found myself tuning into the drum playing and Agree with your comment
Indeed. Great performance from everyone, but the drumming part is outstanding.
Agreed! Outstanding time keeping and appropriate fills and lead-ins. Always a pleasure.
Dusty's voice sounds as a fine tuned V8. Something really good is happening down under with so such talent.
pity his guitar work sounds like a datsun 4 cyl
@@majorrgeek 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@majorrgeek he is a fantastic musician and singer. An amazing talent.
That’s an excellent choice to do a cover of Layla over the slow version.
@@Facts_dont_hurt - but nowhere near as good as EC
This isnt a cover, its a major production!!! Some of Australia's best players. Great vocals, three guitars and the rest of the band rocked!
Arrasou!!!
4 guitars, unless you want Con to be on his own, he is special
What a treat it would be to hear this live at the Eaton' Hill in October... mayyyybeeee??? :) :) :)
WOW. The lead singer can belt it. Outstanding. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My favorite not famous singer and guitar player. I have been singing 44 years fulltime and I play his version of What a Fool Believes every break every night.
South Australia is almost considered as an underdeveloped state, a small population with much desert, but all of a sudden there comes this Oasis of music coming out of South Australia it's called HSCC the bloodline of Australian music today.
more likely it's your comment that is underdeveloped
Music of this caliber I would move there in a heartbeat!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Back in the 60s-80s the Adelaide market was THE musical testing ground. A load of great performers came from there.
This video is absolutely my favourite, everything, EVERYTHING fits perfectly! It’s simply perfection! 🤩
Outstanding - every member of this band is killing this tune!
Wow! The best cover of this ever made 👏
If I went on vacation to Australia it would have to include seeing these guys in concert how amazing would that be 😊
One of my favorite songs of all time and my favorite band just blew my 65-year-old mind again! Love you guys! You are the best band on this planet! 🌏😍
Clapton wished the studio version sounded like this!! Wow
Kinda makes me mad that i'm just discovering this freakin rockstar, but better late than never, right? Rock on, Dusty ❤🔥
I feel into the HSCC rabbit hole... this is hour 3 of binging lol... They're just too good. We need to see them out here in the states! Come out to Las Vegas! Let's go! I'll get the venue packed.
Can relate! :D
@@Klappstulle97 me too.....try Leonid and friends.....bloody great.....sorry HSCC!
Guy singin is amazing - the band is always 10/10 . Eric Clapton would approve ! 😎🇨🇦
What a great cover! The lead singer was awesome, great to see a wall of Strats, and the drummer finally has a good drum set...... even though the ladies aren't present, this was killer!
Yes and the singer is spot on!
Dusty Lee Stephensen on lead vocals
Check out his band Wanderers
This version of Layla is better than the original! Dusty sings with more soul in this voice than Eric Clapton. This was excellent!
Bad news fellas, one of the guitars was playing some bad notes and missed several ques. Good news, it was me trying to play along. Damn that was a GREAT cover! Vocals were right on with emotion and grit. I almost believe Dusty was involved with Layla Harrison too. Ha! He wasn't even alive when the song came out. I liked that the tempo was slightly faster than the original and the guitar harmonies in the outro, all I can say is... Well we have a Spanglish slang saying for moments like this here in South Texas, "No hombre, chut up!", which is basically, "No way man, shut up!". Thank you all for this wonderful and original take on a beautiful song. Much love from the Alamo city.
Well said!
Palabras sinseras!
First of all, as a former on-air radio personality this song was originally recorded by Derek and the Dominos and released in 1970. Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon did in fact write this song. I would have liked HSCC to expand on the rather long original album instrumental portion of this hit which many of us still remember today. I particularly enjoyed airing this version since it gave me a chance to go to the little boys room while on-air and even grab a snack before the song ended roughly seven minutes from the very first note! 😀 Thanks for the memories!l Now let's kick off another 30 minutes of continuous music from HSCC!
Who do you think DEREK really was ?
- Sounds like . . .
Some real music finally, played with conviction, and not a Pretzel in sight.
Dusty Stephensen is a Rocker! The only thing wrong with this is the outro did not go long enough! Outstanding playing by Dusty, Liam and Steve with Dave on the keys. Terrific rendition!
Thank goodness it didn’t …Never liked that horrendously long outdo..lol
@@RobertdelaTorre Probably within the framework of HSCC, the song length was fine. But, I do love the classic rendition with the keyboards and slow guitar jam. It is legendary. Would be interested to hear HSCC play this live. Good listening!
@@ssMusicFan - I have heard buskers and high school kids play Layla better and more like Clapton on guitar however EC is no singer so anything goes
@@jazzbutterworth - EC plays pentatonic English 12 bar blues which is not real blues but is taken from USA south blues and is highly evolved around English culture, loud electric guitars, screaming noise and volumes of alcohol and drug consumption as you will note EC was a notorious drug addict - you take away one of those ingredients and EC would no longer be as popular - he plays mechanised riffs always to the same pattern nothing original even crossroads is all borrowed from Robert Johnson and when EC was with JJ Cale he was left behind did not even come close to JJ Cale - and he's no singer no where near as good as Vince Gill who is much better all round musician - EC is all about commercialized blues rock sound - I would like to agree with you on HSCC because I consider certain members such as Danny Lopresto and Pina world class singers, Danny is like a chameleon he can virtually sing anything to perfection
Amazing performance guys! I can barely wait for the following Thursday!
That guy should do some cover of Bryan adams songs like Run To You.
HSCC should do covers I love Your way and Show Me the way by Peter frampton.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

HSCC bad guys just took Layla to another level! Congrats gentlemen 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You will never find a better voice for Claptons master piece
Wow. I only found HSCC a few months ago and I'm completely hooked! Every song, every guitar lick, the vocals, brass, drums, all spot on yet they make it their own. A truly gifted group of musicians and vocalists. Bravo!
Same here, love every, every second! ❤
Same here, I can't get enough 🎵🎸🎤😍
Damn that was fricking unbelievable, loved it. I can’t say enough great things about this performance cover of Derek and the Dominions feat Eric Clapton. This song meant a lot to me when I was a sophomore in HS. This song got me through some dark moments in that stage of my life. You guy’s never cease to amaze me, I’m so grateful for HSCC and the joy you continue to bring to this messed up world. I pray that continue to bless all of you and your families. John from New Jersey.
Excellent filming Dan danato. Con grinning like a Cheshire Cat, so you know it’s all going well, definitely “the one”.
There will never be, enough Dusty Lee Stephensen HSCC tracks.
We were so lucky to have him perform at the HSCC adelaide 2021 concert.
He is the real deal.
When it’s a five minute track, its so good, it feels like five seconds, (hit play, again)
Epic! What a voice! Great camera work, Perfect audio as always! Tremendous work! Bravo to everyone! Cheers from California!
Wow! Who else had ‘Goodfellas’ vibes from this (if you’ve seen it you’ll know it 😉). You guys are an amazing talent. So glad I saw you in March and can’t wait for November 😃
RIP Ray!!
Absolutely! It's the first thing I think of when I hear Layla!

That falsetto was angelic
Omg I could watch this over and over, everyone is great!! But the lead singer is spot on and fun to watch his facial expressions!! 😍. Y’all rock!!!!
It’s currently 11:35pm here in the States and I ran into my man cave to play this video. 45 seconds into the song my wife comes running down and said. “Damn it, G! You’re going to wake up the entire neighborhood with those subs rattling the entire house! Need I remind you tomorrow is a work day?” Won’t be surprised if someone called the police and our HOA (yet again) for a noise complaint. 😉
Yet another spectacular performance… and hats off to your brilliant sound guy/gal! 👏🏻✌🏻🇺🇸

It’s amazing how many outstanding singers HSCC gets to sing. This guy is absolutely amazing, so much hidden talent in this world. Another one hit out of the ball park, great job to you all
Clapton is supernatural to me. Crossroads and Layla are his masterpieces. Much as I love you guys, I was prepared to grit my teeth and cut it short. Then a big smile came over my face. This was a masterpiece as well. The duo in the finale was just brilliant. Thank you.
OMG! This is badass! Every aspect of this is awesome. Thanks for bringing us real music. 🙏 ❤🎸
badass does not necessarily mean it's good which it isn't
Slide on outta here Dan, you're weekly negative BS gets old.
How odd that Morgan James released her version of Layla a few weeks ago………….so glad that this song is getting the due consideration it deserves
@@ronaldomadrebien7045 - to be frank Layla is a bad choice of song for Morgan James - she is brilliant but does nothing to this song kinda twists it into some sort of bluesy mournful lament fit more for piano bar room back ground sound
GFY buddy.
Another great cover. Always liked the piano part near the end, and your keyboardist didn't disappoint.
Gentlemen, you have aimed for excellence and you have achieved excellence!
Oh my gosh! This is better than words! I can't stop listening

The best cover of this song I've ever heard. Very brave. The vocals are spot on. The band (and guitarists) are supreme. 👏👏👏👏

Loved Brad's sticking...VERY Jim Gordon! Also loved the Duane Allman harmony bottle slide bit at the end. VERY cool stuff!
Super tasty tribute to one of Slow Hand's signature songs!!! Cheers!!!
The masterful vocal work and the splendid guitar play on this cover really highlights how soulful this song is. As always, your covers not only are a worthy tribute to the originals, you breathe new life into them as well.
