  • See how the Wii U port of Zelda: Twilight Princess stacks up against the original release on GameCube and Wii. TP HD's normal mode is based off the GameCube version of the game. Hero mode is based off of the Wii version, so the graphics are flipped to make Link right handed.

    The textures look great in the remaster, but the lack of any polygon upgrades make the textures stick out in a bad way.

      +Andreas Kalvet Wind Waker definetely looked stunning. Then again, I wonder if it's not because of WW's cel-shaded style, which ages a lot better, as even IGN mentioned in one of their videos.

    The hd makes the details much better, but I really miss the glowing aura that gave the game, especially in twilight areas, a more mystical feeling. When I first played TP years ago its graphics were mind blowing to young me. Without the glowing hue around it's much more obvious where its limited technology lies (unlike windwaker, with a more unique style that continues to work in its favor).

      Windwaker had so much personality that was missing from the previous games. Personality in the expressions of the NPCs, how they moved, walked, talked, what they wore. They all felt like they had different personalities. This was a massive improvement to the Ocarina of Time where the NPCs felt lifeless and forgettable. Kind of like a disney animatronic ride.

      Wind Waker is the most humorous, stylish in animation, textures, effects, and color than any other Zelda game. Everyone had to wait almost 2 decades to finally get a Zelda game similar to Wind Waker's glorious style. I went ahead a got WW HD because it is a fantastic remaster. The original WW GC has more texture than TP HD. TP HD doesn't look much different than the GC version. Now, if a Nintendo could run the unreal engine settings on TP with lighting, texture, sound, animation, echo, and detail, then I would buy it, but that will never happen because a Nintendo can't run it...a super computer does.

    When upscaling textures for rereleases, it quickly gets to the point where the lack of any bump mapping makes it look worse than the original.
    Whats the point of high res textures if the object itself is flat and frequently has light hitting it? Alot of things start to look like giant flat shiny things at some point. When you get to HD, bump mapping makes a huge difference.

      +Good Night Moon have eyes and I don't see it looking "way better". its an improvement, yes. but way better is giving it more credit than it deserves.
      I've noticed 2 changes. resolution and texture quality. the Wii u is capable of more than this.

    • @Olamellamoalex
      @Olamellamoalex 8 лет назад +2

      Xerazal This game is 1080p. Few WiiU games are 1080p native, and thats for good reason, WiiU can do more but is not a specially good 1080p machine, this game is probably more demanding than it looks just for that.

    • @Xerazal
      @Xerazal 8 лет назад +15

      Good Night Moon I know that its not a 1080p powerhouse, but even something as simple as bump mapping could be implemented without much hit on performance, at least i'm pretty sure based on the gpu that it could. The fact that something like Wind Waker HD can run at native 1080p yet have much more detail in lighting, shadows, and multiple filters shows the hardware is capable of doing more than TP HD is letting on. Both titles run at 1080p at 30fps, yet TP HD looks drastically worse. Then again, WWHD is technically a remake while TP HD is just a remaster.

    • @Olamellamoalex
      @Olamellamoalex 8 лет назад +8

      Xerazal But WW has way less detail in textures, on this games there is like 10 times more diferent textures and they are like 10 times more complex too, in WW the textures are completely flat because the (wonderful) cell-shaded and simplistic artstyle.

    I'm going to come late to the party and say this. I was initially very excited about TPHD, then I was a little skeptical when I started seeing comparison videos and all that.
    When I got TPHD home and loaded it up, my 7 year old son said it looks the same as the old one, and was very unimpressed. Then when I popped in the original, and my feelings changed.
    The original looks like somebody smeared vaseline all over my TV screen. I think what happens is that when we first played the original, our imagination helped us to see it looking better than it did in reality. Now, playing through the HD version, the game looks like I would have wanted it to back in 2006.
    Also, the intro, which I never really minded to begin with, seems to go by a bit quicker so you get to the action sooner.
    Could it have been better? Sure, but we would probably have had to wait another 8-10 years for a complete rebuild of the game.

    I'm gonna be the only one saying this, but I actually like how everything is lighter in the Wii U version. This is for a specific reason though: My eyesight is starting to go, which makes it harder to see the things around me, especially in places that are darker. The last time I played Twilight Princess I struggled in some areas, and when I played the remaster at a friend's house I enjoyed being able to be aware of my surroundings again.
    There's nothing wrong with thinking Twilight Princess looks best when it's darker, I thought that a long time ago. Just appreciate the fact you have good eyesight.

  • @LloydRhodesBrandon
    @LloydRhodesBrandon 8 лет назад +129

    I didn't even play the original, and I honestly think the original looks better most of the time. Yes, the HD one is more objectively good and more realistic, but something about the GameCube version's art style has more charm and magic.

    • @codminecraftandxboXD
      @codminecraftandxboXD 8 лет назад +30

      What, because it's blurrier..? XD

    • @LloydRhodesBrandon
      @LloydRhodesBrandon 8 лет назад +52

      +MajesticWolf Well, no.... but upon revisiting this video, I HAVE noticed that the blurriness may have helped. See, the world itself is built for GameCube, so things like hills and mountains, which on a more current system would be realistically rendered, are quite... angular. This is less obvious with blur, because it rounds out edges and stuff. When the blurriness is removed, the pointless and jaggedness of landscapes become easy to spot, leading to a less pleasing aesthetic overall for me. There's also the fact that the HD versions seems to have desaturated a lot of the colours and stuff. Things that were attractively red are now a more believable but less charming bronze, and so on.

    • @MerryBlind
      @MerryBlind 8 лет назад +24

      +Lloyd Rhodes-Brandon Agreed. They should have kept the "bloom" effect as strong as in the original. They toned it down because a lot of people complained it was too heavy in the original... but those people didn't realize it looked better with the bloom than without.

    • @TheSnorlax7
      @TheSnorlax7 8 лет назад +6

      +Lloyd Rhodes-Brandon I agree... When it came to the grass... I feel like the blurriness helped me to imagine the grass textures better.
      In the HD version it looks like they took the land and just splatted it with green paint. The flatness turns me off.
      I already have the original game anyways... So I don't really see a good reason in buying it a second time.

    No matter what I still usually recommend the GameCube version to friends over the wii or wiiU. mostly* because of the controls but also because the orginal GC release has a hazey.. dreamy.. kinda look.
    Nonetheless, Twilight Princess is Timeless. I really think they could have made a sequel featuring Colin as the new playable hero.
    Imagine seeing Link and Ilia slightly older ... the other Ordon residents too w few new ones. A whole new plot to the Twilight except now... it is Colin .. given the green tunic and the ancient sword to face evil and prove himself. Have some of the same music too... but w few new tunes. Have Link offering Epona to Colin for one last adventure. Wow they really could have done something w Colin. seeming as he was so adamant about becoming brave like Link someday.

  • @GroundhogGameplays
    @GroundhogGameplays 8 лет назад +50

    To all those whining about the graphics? It's a remaster! Other remasters of older games did the same thing! They didn't change the graphics up much. Plus Nintendo wouldn't want this to outshine the real Zelda game coming out for Wii U in 2016 unless for some reason they delay it again. If you don't like it don't drop the $60 and just wait for Zelda U. I mean there's more to gaming than super hyper realistic graphics. One game proved this and it was called Minecraft on the PC!

    • @scissorman44
      @scissorman44 8 лет назад +1

      +Moka Kun And your statement it's fallacious.
      One, because remasters have the improved visuals as one of the main draws(your comparison to Minecraft is totally irrelevant on this ground).
      Two, because $60 is a criticizable price for a game you can already play on the Wii U.
      Some complaints are poorly formulated but the criticisms aren't groundless.

Part of me is hoping that they reorchestrated the soundtrack. And that they kept the Wii control scheme as an option, I liked that scheme imo.
