This is the best GI tut I have ever seen! You go trough every detail, that's is awesome! The other tuts allways leave the problems behind and we don't know what to do after that. You helped me a lot! Thank you very much! You just got yourself a subscriber! Keep up the great work :)
Your tutorials are the best! You explain them so well. You put your time to make these videos and share your knowledge with us, for Free! You're great. I subscribed. I wonder why some people dislike such videos. Anyways, Thanks alot.
would love a video going over GI settings for other renderers/general GI theory as well. Really curious about the differences between Quasi Monte Carlo and Brute Force Monte Carlo that arnold seems to use, as well as biased vs unbaised, physically based rendering, etc.
Very helpful and very grate, The animation flickers were kind of freaking me. Thanks GSG. By the way, I figured out a way to reduce the grains or maybe get rid of the grains when using Quasi-Monte Carlo (QMC) for GI if you use the Physical render engine. Just to note, The render time increase each time you reduce the grains
hello Nick! great tutorial, big fan here (met you at Half Rez 9 here in last month), random question.....can i use an HDRI sky as my illumination source to light my model, but not have the HDRI sky itself be rendered in the background? basically i have a spaceship scene and i want the spaceship model to be light by the HDRI, but not have the HDRI be visible in the final render, just want the spaceship to be rendered with an alpha channel. any help would be greatly appreciated :)
@@Greyscalegorilla I know, no problem with waiting. Ive got 1000+ cpu cores render farm. Just want to get GI render setup good "without flickering" :/ Except QMC is there something what really is usefull?
3:30 when i go to the material options i have no GI to toggle on or any of the bottom part options, i turned off vray render settings & went to standard but still not getting those settings to apply on the lighting object :/
Hello GSG, I've been learning from you and recently i ran into a problem is that when i open GI using Irradiance Cache + Secondary Method, render in animation there's noticeable flicker all the time, i try to fix it by click "full animation"or crank up the sample count + quality, or by click Identical Noise Distribution, none of them really working, the problem still remains, I know its sounds impossible but is there anyway to decrease the flicker and solve this ?
I don't understand how it is possible that Gi in c4D has som many issues in animations, noisy, flickering and more...... even using Greyscalegorilla projects...... reason why other render engines are gonna kill it.....
I always come back to this video when i haven't render in awhile, still relevant in 2020 🙌🏽
33:42-34:00-41:36-41:57: The fastest ways to render a video, obviously, when you don't have no time! ☺️☺️🤗🤗👏👏
Posted in 2014 but still super valid video. Go to for anyone jumping into rendering with C4D. Good job.
This video will be my go to reference whenever I am in doubt. It explains everything, good to know the whys behind the choices to make.
Best video that has ever helped me to understand GI and the Physical render in C4D

EDM Portugal Exactly!
I do not know how to express my gratitude to you for these lessons distinctive brother
always a pleasure Nick, thank you so much for all your great tuts
Great Video
I appreciate that tutorial so much, helped me a lot.
Amazing explanation, very detailed. Thank you!

Greyscalegorilla No, Thank YOU!
Very useful video...
You're amazing nick!!
Thank you is good way to learn C4D.
I learn so much from you guys!... Thank You very much

Fantastic, thank you!
so imensly helpful for a newb like me. thanks a bunch!
Excellent advice Thank you kind sir
Thanks Man ! This Helped Me Alot !

Its still quite up to date ;) Any good solution for old-skool physical render and full animated scene?
Physical is pretty slow. Ya gotta wait if you want an animation.

Thank you.. ur amazing
Thank you so much
Thanks!
Very helpful thanks
Can you do this tutorial from the scene setup? I'm trying to replicate this and having no luck at all. I'm using R16.
thx man
i cant find that sitting is not on the effects bar
Yes, it is very important )))
For R25, GI Area Light is not present. How would we go about it with this new version of C4d?
This is an old video. I would recommend using the Physical Renderer or a Third Party Renderer these days.
3:30 when i go to the material options i have no GI to toggle on or any of the bottom part options, i turned off vray render settings & went to standard but still not getting those settings to apply on the lighting object :/
Neither do I and I'm working in R21, I guess this is a removed feature.

That's what he explained in this video. Just use QMC instead of Irradiance Cache.

Very good tutorial of GI, without GI Area Light checked, my rendering were always full of big disgusting noises.
Pixels with existential crisis.
xD?
Put a door.
