- India is facing a coal shortage and electricity crisis. Many state governments are asking people to utilize electricity judiciously like the Andhra government have urged public to avoid AC after 6 pm fearing power crisis. Similar news of power shortage coming from Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan. But did you know that India is not the only country which is facing a coal shortage? A similar coal shortage, blackouts and power crisis have been seen in European Union and China where the price of coal has also increased. Why is this happening? I explain in this video.

But his analysis is completely wrong.
There is not a coal shortage in India but a money shortage.
States have not made full payment to coal India for many years due to which coal India is not supplying coal to them.
States have failed to stop electricity theft and have kept the price low to woo voters. But someone would have to pay ultimately.
1) What government saying:
--> Due to sudden demand of electricity from industries after pandemic, unable to meet the power consumption demand.
--> Due to heavy rains in mining areas. it was a challenge to supply the required coal to the power plants. (Of course it is a short term blocker)
2) About imports:
--> Imports side there is a decline since pre pandemic time. Australia is one of the main country for coal exporter for our country. But due to environmental issues, this imports were reduced.
3) Future Alternatives:
--> At present we are depended on 68% on thermal power, which is a major contribution. It should be replaced with some other renewable power generation models.
--> Government already focusing on alternatives, but in implementation it will take some time, Like power generation from Solar, wind , tides, nuclear energy e.t.c
--> The most important thing is , not only generation, but also optimum utilization. Example Using LED lights (Ujala scheme designed for this purpose). Powering off the street lights on day time with automation. These are small steps , but when we think country wide it will impact more.

Bro there is 30 % percent off at solar panels
Abey tariff per unit is below 3 rupees as compared to coal which is 9 rupees so 12%GST WILL NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE.

I'm from rajasthan and i searched about it because of electricity shortage in my area and the saddest thing is its summer season .
Same story in gurugram..it's 44degrees temperature and we had 7 hours of power cut today, till now..hopefully there won't be any power cut at night 😭

i am from bihar and i have electricity like more than 20 hours a day at least ye bata do ki bihar ke kin kin region mein power cut ho raha hai, ye toh satya hai ki coal ki shortage ho rahi hai per abhi tak koi major power cut nhi mila hai....point to be noted mai patna se nhi hu.

In my opinion the cess collected on petroleum and diesel could be used to subsidize the solar plates which will make them affordable to common man.. The other one is state government should provide incentives to people using solar power.. govt. Schemes such as PM-KUSUM must be implemented in proper terms 😊😊
Such system is already in place in Gujarat , where people using solar power gets benefits from the Govt
But such funds are already used for free vaccines,PLI schemes,free ration,other govt subsidies, various schemes and for infrastructure projects

It's better to use coolers instead of ACs as the coolers just consume 10 % of the energy as compared to ACs.
It also reduces bill, and makes our body adaptable for natural environment.
We can compromise on our needs to prevent future critical conditions of blackouts !!
But coolers need water, and with the kind of water scarcity faced by many regions in india, this wouldn't be feasible

sir i have some qus 1 monsoon comes every year, even every year the moonsoon is getting less rain ? so previously when there was good monsoon why did not water getting into the Coal mines ?

because recently i talked with the workers of coal mine about the cause they are saying the industries are not taking the coals and the are not willing to pay the transporters the increased oil price which is use in several transport medium .....

Thankyou Dhruv bhai for covering this huge problem coming our way. I have submitted one startup to Department of Industries, H.P an year back where using pine needles and making thier briquettes, we will replace coal for cement factories etc. And pine needles are major cause behind fire forests in summers but our Government officials has denied that project excusing financial assistance and non practical.
These schemes are just in papers, reality is different. Hope we will find the solution soon.

The ongoing power crisis is manmade and due to the stubborn attitude of PSPCL management. It was delebrated to management around 45 days before this crisis to purchase the coal timely. At that time they refused to purchase the coal even at half of the average price. Now this hue & cry is inevitable.
