I like her! She was my favorite of Jonah’s girlfriends. She showed him that he had to put effort into a relationship, not just smile and everything would be ok. She was just a really cool character.
She was sweet, and I think they had her in the show to set up this character development thing for Jonah but in my opinion it never went anywhere because Jonah literally gets back with Amber after Libby breaks up with him.

This was actually a super great episode bc a lot of deaf people don't just use sign language. @@katrinbauer5003 Bruh. Deaf people learn to read lips. Many of them, like Helen Keller (who was deaf AND blind), learn to speak and use sign language. Reading lips also makes it easier to comprehend what people are saying ALONG with sign language.
I know that because of A Silent Voice, I’m actually really interested in learning more sign language, I taught myself a song one time, but I don’t remember and I know very basic things like hi, thank you, sorry and some of the alphabet, I can spell my name and some other peoples names
I really liked Libby. She was such a good character and I'm so happy that they used her to teach viewers about the deaf community and the importance of communication.

That's because it is wrong the way Jonah treated her. Disney was trying to teach people like Jonah a lesson so they don't end up like him. It's a common cause of break ups among Deaf people and non-ASL speakers. Actually, Rikki Poynter talked about this in her break up video from this year. If you are interested in meeting someone who uses ASL, you should be actively trying to learn their language, especially if you love them. It doesn't have to take over all your other time at work or school, but you should learn even just little by little. Otherwise, you don't care about them because you don't to want to communicate with them in a way that is accommodating to them and you don't want to accept their culture. I'm not Deaf or hard of hearing, but I'm learning ASL, and I couldn't even imagine speaking a different native language and dating someone who ignores my own language and forces me to use the hearing that I don't have and lip reading (which is hard to do anyways) every time we talk because they are used to talking when they could just learn ASL and neither of us would struggle.

I too have been learning ASL and while I’m not great at it, I have a pretty basic understanding of it. I really like that Disney not only brought in a deaf person but also showed the do’s and don’ts of it. Even if Libby wasn’t deaf, if you truly love someone with a language barrier, then you can bring it down together. It doesn’t have to be just one person learning the others language either, it could be both. Then again, it depends on the context (i.e. dating someone who lives in Germany, doesn’t speak English, and you’re planning to live in Germany. Then it would be more beneficial for you to learn German rather than them learn English)

I know Sign Langue and a lot of people don't study it or consider it a langue it's annoying :( After college I'm going to live in London and when I know all Signs I know it will help with my Art Studio so I can conuamate deaf American tourist ;)
I would really love if high school or middle school made it a requirement where you had to learn sign language. Just like how you have to learn Spanish or other languages.

Jonah is so dense sometimes. As someone with a disability, I would feel weird if my significant other treated my disability that way. I would want him to learn about and do things on a level I could be on so we were together.
I find it cool that when Libby made fun of Jonah by sticking her tongue out and Andi laughing, it was like there was a brief conversation there even if nothing was said and mainly just consisted of facial expressions. And this happens after Jonah says "Everyone stares at their phone" then proceeds to *look downwards* as if you were to look at your phone on your lap. He looks up after Andi laughs and doesn't understand what happened, emphasizing his ignorance towards what he needs to do to respect and communicate with Libby or deaf people in general.
I guess you can call it a plot hole but I remember the reason they had it like that was to show inclusivity and to make it seem more natural but yeah I’m sure in reality everyone would do the signs because not every deaf person knows how to read lips.
A lot of deaf individuals are actually able to read lips. Andi even said she wasn't fluent and could only sign a few words, so I think she could probably read lips for short sentences, not full blown conversations on a date which is why she texted w/ Jonah

I loved Libby's character, I didn't understand what she was saying when I watched this show about a year ago. I've been taking sign language classes at school and I kept thinking I wasn't learning anything, but then I watched this and realized I understand most of what she's signing. she's one of my favorite characters on the show honestly
It bums me out that after that last scene (where it seemed to be getting better between them) they decided to write her off the show with a throw away line that they broke up off screen.

agree he acted like libby couldn’t read lips, especially two words that can be easily mouthed and understood
Specially because she is not an alien, Deaf people are not experts in lip reading, it is not even a thing, lip reading is 90% guessing.

I loved the signing. Andi and cyrus are good people for learning signing language to communicate with libby and any other deaf friends they might make later on in life. I wish jona had learn more. I wish they had kept libby for the the show and not just for 2 episodes.
