    Always love to see new chapters from your channel. I live in Florida and the sand soil is a real challenge to grow crops, but your channel is of great inspiration. This past year with the pandemic and restrictions haven't been able to grow much. Is very refreshing to see others growing gardens all over.

    I am 64 old female garden always doing hard work sometimes chopping down unfruitful trees that crowd the view of garden.

    • @joannmicik1924
      @joannmicik1924 4 года назад

      I'm just a month shy of 64. Yes, I'm out there cutting down wild seeded trees that are taking over the garden. Made the mistake of letting some of them get too big and now they are a real problem shading the veg and sucking the moisture out of the soil. I replace them with young, smaller varieties like crabs, hawthorn, dogwood.

  • @paolamura3497

    I can't believe they're cutting those beautiful trees down!!!

    • @salrial744
      @salrial744 4 года назад +4

      Same with old houses. A lot of people see existing things as bad, and want to replace them with something "new." Then hire someone else to tell them what it should look like. Sad.

    • @TMBgarden
      @TMBgarden 3 года назад +2

      In some cities or countries there are regulations that prohibit you to have trees of a certain height "x" meters from your house or the neighbor's house, it also specifies which trees must be removed due to risks of falls, tree health, or because it is an area where an insect or animal considered a pest or dangerous nests if it is near a playground for children or pets, such as the pine processionary caterpillar. In some countries you are forbidden to cut down a tree in your garden, if it is of a certain protected species, if you buy a lot with those trees you can build up to where it does not affect the tree, and if you damage or cut it there is a jail sentence in addition to a fine and obligation to plant "x" more specimens where indicated. Of course I do not know the context of the logging in the video, but in case someone did not know that these regulations exist about trees, first of all it is better to consult the current situation in your local town hall and why not to a botanical authority in the area. Greetings to all.

    Thankfully, we now know that no-dig gardening is all about understanding soil as a living community, not disturbing it, feeding it...alas, most of the micro-life isn't visible to the naked eye (and therefore, misunderstood.) Living soil is also a carbon sink. This series is dated. Newer ideas about natural systems are not considered but I suppose it's valuable for triggering some critical thinking about our position in the web of life on earth.

    • @SuperEvilRodent
      @SuperEvilRodent 4 года назад +7

      Yus couldn't agree more! Also gardening programs need to discourage the planting of hybrid/exotic species. Imagine if peoples goal in their garden was to facilitate biodiversity and self sufficiency using no dig etc. The BBC and other big media companies really need be educating and promoting this. Get Charles D and Richard Perkins on the payroll :) Take it easy.

    • @nuriaarmengol2570
      @nuriaarmengol2570 4 года назад +3

      Lucy B, I absolutely agree with you. Maybe in our gardens we need more the eyes of a naturalist, that observes, respects and learn from plants and trees and the intrincated relations that conform the web of life. And less of the hands and tools of a gardener that cuts, prunes and plant with a dubtuous aesthetic goal in mind.

    It's fortunate your local authority allowed you to take that tree down. In Canada, where I live, there are so few trees that one needs to pay for a permit to take down a tree, if it is approved. Then you have to pay to have another tree planted somewhere else.
