Julia there are so many bass players here in the USA that can't play Larry Graham's songs because they can't master his style and you do it like you've been playing for 40yrs UNBELIEVABLE!
I'm 62yrs old and grew up on R&B and funk music and I must admit Julia plays the studio version of Larry Graham's song better than anyone else I've heard before
To answer questions about Julia and her equipment. Julia is Polish. Hi everyone! My name is Julia, I'm 18 year old self-taught bass player. I play bass since December 2013. Ray4 -Zoom B3 (interface and effects) Q: Whats program do you use for record the bass sound? A: I use Audacity Q: How do u record with such an amazing sound ? A: I plug in bass to interface audio, then i record it in DAW software Q: Are you using an amp before connecting to your interface? A: I plug the bass straight to interface and then I add a little bit of compression in Audacity :) Q: Good Sound!! the bass original or replaced mic/ electronics? A: Everything is original :) (Except the strings) Q: which strings / sizes do you play? A: DR Hi-Beams 40-100 Q: What do you use as software to superimpose audio and video? You are a freaking beast on that bass young lady I am a music lover and critique everything and I find you are absolute perfection I am a Superfan for life
Been watching a lot of these covers and while technically sound they don’t have the same pizazz and looseness with the slap that you do, to wit that’s a big part of the style and you got it kudos to you
Not just playing it but NASTY WID IT!!! YOU GO YOUNG 'UN!!!! She's truly killin' it! Gotta keep my eyes and ears open for her. Prince would definitely have her in his band.👍👍
HOLY MOLY! Hair is an exceptionally hard bass line to pull off, but you're nailing it! Thank you very much for that wonderful display of craftsmanship.
Julia, you are a true bass Goddes!!! It's just fantastic to see and hear you play. Especially at your young age! You just have what it takes! The feel, the techniques, the groove!! And off course the great sounds you are getting from the SUB. I now own the exact same one and am very happy with it. Thinks it sounds even more like the old pre- Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray basses do than the modern Stingrays. Absolutely love it. So I have to thank you, because its you and your playing that convinced me I had to buy a black SUB Ray 4 Hope to see many more of your videos in the future. Especially some slap songs. Cheers from Holland, Bert
Al Dusty I’m gonna check back to this upload to see when you post your easy 30 minute version of this song. I really don’t think you have the chops and you’re talking shyt cause you’re not big enough to admit this kid is awesome. Making believe it’s easy and you can do it, pftt.....
I had the honor of being at this particular recording as Larry's Mom lived (Dell Graham, Pianist) next door to my Father's house in Houston, Tx. in the 1930's... Tom Flye (deceased) was the Engineer and did Sly and The Family Stones best tracks@ The Sausalito Record Plant.. my This young Lady is what Music is all about:. A Love and Gift that is from a much Higher Power that Blesses ones that really Deserve It.
I am so proud of you. I grew up with this song, and to see someone capture it right warms my soul. You don't just play the song you feel it. Funk, and music back then was an experience, and you're experiencing it. Great job!🤜💥🤛
Julia, your doing really well. As someone who has been at it for over 47 years, I can only suggest that you listen to a large variety of different music and different types of bass lines. This way you can become good at many different ways of doing things as a bass player. Much continued success to you.
I think she is listening to some good music to develop her timing and skills, right now. I think more people of her age group should pay attention to Julia.
WHOAH!!!! You have to have serious chops to tackle a song like hair...One of Larry Graham funkiest songs..Even Prince respected and was a fan of his. GOOD JOB!
I do not believe what I am seeing this lady cannot be from planet earth. Must have have been sent to earth with a bass in hand to create such beautiful noise. Wow, Wow, Wow.
BASS goddess is damn straight. This is effing killing it man. KILLIN it!! hand technique totally expresses built -in--groove. REAL bassists born with groove built into them. BIG thumbs up on this young lady !!!!
Super clean! I REEEEEEEAAAAALLLLYYYY enjoy and impressed you play the actual part. Not a whole bunch of chops. Very good and the outro was note for note. Very well done.
That is the first time I have seen anyone strum a chord on a bass. The bass player is usually not center stage but the singer is in a concert so I may have never noticed. I missed it on earlier listenings!
Julia, thank you very much for introducing me this great band. I have never listened it, and they make great music!! In addition to your spectacular performances, I like to hear you so I can learn about new music. Keep this path!
Wow over the years I have spend quite a bit of time trying to learn to this song and I thought I had it and now I realize I was off in a lot of places.. You make it so clear. Can't get any more solid that that. Now I'll be working on it again and this time I'll really get it right. Thanks.
Even 30 minutes every day for four years would get the same result with any human being. My guess is she did more than that, but this is not an advanced slap riff, so you should be able to play this after four years fairly consistent playing. That said, great playalong, great sound and technique. Nice one.
Just like that....LOL Well talent is one thing but the passion is also important. You love it, you spend all your free time with your instrument and you don´t need to do anything else. You eat, drink and sleep the music.
You play the opening riffs so accurately. There are a lot of lessons/play throughs of this song on RUclips, but I think this is the best one. Incredible.
Saw GCS in '74(?). They entered from the back of the theater from two doors singing "we've been waiting for so long, waiting to play for you, some of our songs...A Capella and clapping. I don't remember for sure but I think they went into The Jam when they got to the stage. Great vid and excellent bass playing Julia.
Hey Just want to say you are insanely dope. and the fact that you go back to music before you were even born til music of now..INCREDIBLE,..and this is coming from an artist and producer that have been in the music biz successfully

WOW!!! I'm impressed!!!❤

You mean her rhythm is strong.
If you have good ass timing then funk is really fun and not that hard.

You make it look as easy as butter melting in a hot pan! I love that you love the music you play. Authentic and believable, every note. ❤
I feel safe watching this. One feels safe when watching a master.
I'm offended at how clean and amazing this is
Wow ! So well played !

Making a Larry Graham song look easy! Keep on jamming!
One of the hardest bass funk rhythms to play and she is just killing it with ease! Im really enjoying this!
I’ve seen a lot of good bassists in my day, and Julia has to be the best young bassist I’ve ever heard. Keep it up!
My eyes is burning, my nose is runnin, my ears cant comprehend the funk you playnin!!!

I hope you've seen her Mac Miller cover! 🔥🔥🔥
Me too. I subscribed after the second cut I heard from her ....
All the bass gods kneel before you...no words describe your groove and feeling.
This earned a follow. First time I heard this song was in 1994 - when Prince covered it. Prince would approve. And have 2 step up his game. Bananas!

This is the most underrated video on your channel. That groove is tricky to get timing right. Killed it 💪
absolutely precise
Probably the best cover I’ve seen of hair
Absolutely groovy!! Way to lay the funk down!! You're on your way to a great career in music with soul like that !!
That is world class bass playing.

It's almost criminal how few views this song has!😔
Most people probably don't know about this song.
This is big-league talent, skill, and technique right here. Hats off!

Oh man.... She is SOOO nice with that groove!!! Bravo Bravo!!!
SELF TAUGHT SHE IS CRAZZZZY LOVE IT JULIA YOU ARE AWESOME
She's really great, can't get enough of her playing. Always right in the pocket! One of soooo many awesome female bassists...
Spot on!...a very challenging riff this one...many a bassist has been wood by this one. You got it perfect!
How the HECK did you become this powerful in 4 short years?
a lot of practice is my guess.
and a good education
Dedication ...and relentless groove! Actually, I believe that a lot of people have this capability (with enough effort), they just don't know it.
Even 30 minutes every day for four years would get the same result with any human being. My guess is she did more than that, but this is not an advanced slap riff, so you should be able to play this after four years fairly consistent playing.
