We test drove one today and decided to buy on the spot. We are in Ireland too. It's ready to roll so collecting at the weekend. It seems like a great car.
Thanks Chris, this and the last couple of videos were invaluable to me as a new Nero owner :) Something I learned while reading the huge owners manual; if you program your destination into the Satnav, the car is better able to notify you when to 'coast' (i.e. ease off on the accelerator) and if ACC is operating the car will do this its self in order to optimise battery charging. Apparently the route information includes data on road inclination so when navigating the car knows when a downhill stretch is coming up and can adapt accordingly more quickly and efficiently. For this reason it's worth having navigation on when you know your destination even on trips when you don't need it because the route is familiar (you can always turn the navigation volume down) to improve consumption, especially when using ACC.
Thanks for sharing this info. To be honest, I haven´t read the entire manual, since it´s so huge. But I am planning to do it, to make sure I haven´t missed out on something :)
I have a UK Spec 2018 Niro PHEV. I can conform that if you drive in "S" mode and you have more than 25% of battery remaining, the battery will be charged to 99% on a long drive of more than 30 miles. It will increase fuel consumption in doing this, so this is the less efficient alternative to plug-in charging.
You need an ovd reader like on toyota i have chr hybrid and i can see in different spot of ecometer different kw charging may be charge just a little bit in other spot charge 5 6 kw so fast
Maybe you can make an update with a fully loaded car. The whole family with full luggage possibly on a small holiday, both for the economy but also the car's driving characteristics. ?
I've run a trailer with wood etc to the recycling center. Could run 30 km on EV mode with the trailer. That's about the same range as if I drive 110 km/h (120 on the car dashboard) on the motorway.
Hi there, I have a question about the trunk/boot space: Is there enough room to carry a spare tire, flat on the floor of the trunk (like, horizontally)? If not, what about a "compact spare" - the low speed little wheel & tire that many companies supply? Thanks in advance.
Hi Chris - thanks for all your very helpful videos. I'm expecting delivery of my Niro PHEV in early January 2019. Quick question on charging the battery - do you charge your battery daily? Is there any problem with constant daily charging? Regards, Frank
Hej Chris, jeg får min nye Niro på onsdag, og vil gerne følge benzin forbruget. Du omtaler en App til at følge forbruget, hvad hedder den?, Og tak for nogle gode videoer
Hi Chris, did you sign up for a service agreement on the PHEV when you aquired it ? I have ordered mine for delivery in August (sigh, looooong wait) and are thinking if it it worth the money or not. What are you expenses on the car maintenance so far ?
I got my 2022 CEED SW PHEV just over a week ago, and when I tried this I made a "strange" discovery: If I keep my foot still on the accelerator this method works, but if I activate the cruise control (maintaining the exact same speed, for example 90 km/h), the needle moves from the left side of "ECO" to the right side, and the battery doesn't get charged. If I deactivate the cruise control again (holding my foot still on the accelerator at 90 km/h) it goes back to charging again. Does anyone know why?
how many mpg did you have on highway while you were using the hybrid mode? Some says there's a lot of mpg difference when you drive a Niro hybrid and a Niro phev with hybrid mode on due to extra weight of battery and parts
I just took a longer trip to Germany. Had to go HEV mode only on the way back. MPG (US) was around 42 at 95% motorway speed 110-130 km/h. Because of the more weight due to the bigger battery, consumption will be slightly higher on the PHEV in HEV mode. But not alot, it´s not that big af difference :)
If the battery is empty, that is to say if the number of EV km = 0, the Niro PHEV drives as a HEV model, except that the PHEV is 85 kg heavier and the E-engine is 60HP strong compared to 44 HP in the HEV type. The battery management system prevents the battery from running out completely. In model 2020, the % of the battery is also displayed, and that states 18% if the number of EV km is 0. I can then charge about 8.3 KWh and then it says that 58 km EV are available.
Thank you, will try this approach on my Optima PHEV which should work the same as Niro PHEV. Btw, it's very strange that the U.S. version of the car actually has the option to charge the battery whilst driving - all you need to do is to press and hold the HEV button for a while (2-3 seconds) and it will switch to the Battery Charge Mode. But here in Europe, there's not such an option. Probably it's only a matter of different software configuration for different markets. In the US there's also a smartphone app for KIA EV and PHEV cars called 'UVO ECO': play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myuvo.evservices&hl=en which we don't have access to in Europe.
Do that, I am sure you will get some charging done. Yes, it´s to bad there are differences in the cars. I can live without the charge button, since it makes no economical sence to charge the car that way, but the lack of app is a shame. But the cars in US are sold with another hardware in the multimedia device, so it haves other options :)
hey Chris. Chris from Ireland here. got my new Niro PHEV yesterday. your videos really helped me make up my mind. Cheers.
We test drove one today and decided to buy on the spot. We are in Ireland too. It's ready to roll so collecting at the weekend. It seems like a great car.
Informative and I thank you. Loving my Niro PHEV so far.
You are welcome, happy you could use it. And it´s a great car, I am also very pleased with mine :)

Great video. Thanks.
HI! KIA should pay You for all your movies about Niro PHEV, because are very helpful. Thanks
hehe, doubt they are gonna. But thanks :)
Very helpful. Thank you.
Nice it could help. Have a great day :)
Fandt du nogensinde ud af om de 12v udtag som du mente skulle side under luftdyser på bagsædet ???👍🤗

Oki, nice info. I don´t have a towbar on mine, so can´t test that out :)
I'll have to plan a trip to Denmark some day so that we can compare the two different cars Denmark and Sweden offers.
hello Sr. iff in a long trip the battery goes empty, in the rest of the trip the car charge the battery?

Think you can have a compact spare. Will test if a full tire can be there
Thanks, very informative. What happens if you drain the petrol tank to zero. Can you still drive on the battery until it's also drained?
What's the total economy per/100km/h with EV AND HEV combined? Great and very informative video
Hi Chris - thanks for all your very helpful videos. I'm expecting delivery of my Niro PHEV in early January 2019. Quick question on charging the battery - do you charge your battery daily? Is there any problem with constant daily charging? Regards, Frank
Yes, an no. I haven´t had any problems :)

Appen hedder Biludgifter, og findes ihvertfald til Apple
Tak - giver fin forståelse af flere ting. Hvor lang tid tager det store service i Flensburg?
2-3 timer

Service agreement is a joke, the price is way to high for me. So I get i serviced in Denmark for the small ones, and go to germany for the big ones.
How long do I have to drive to charge the battery full in charging mode ?

@@CACars thank you for the answer. it helped me a lot!
Is it worth it to charge the battery with the gas engine? Does the gas mileage go down while you are spending energy to charge the battery?
What does the car drive like if you run out of battery? I’m thinking about getting one and can’t find anything about this! Very good video by the way👍

Yep, as you say :)
Hi, is it worth charging the car while using sport mode? after all it takes more gas in sport mode...
In general no, but if you really need to drive EV mode, it can be used for charging. I hardly ever did it :)
How do you activate sport mode
Push the gearstick to the left
