Social Security is based on your highest 35 years of earnings. Government pensions are based on your highest 3 years and typically dwarfs what anyone on Social Security can get, and government retiree's get to retire many years earlier than someone who has to wait until they are 67 years old to get unreduced Social Security. So, they start out getting years of retirement benefits regular people never see. Government retiree's continue to receive medical benefits which are their primary coverage and is paid for by the government for the rest of their lives while everyone else has to depend on Medicare and has to pay much more for it. Did you pay Social Security when you were teacher?
I always thought it was the other way around. My father worked for General Motors. He retired at age 58. Got his full pension. But when he became eligible for SS his pension was cut. But,I think that might have been a General Motors thing. But,still in my opinion was so wrong!

We get taxed more than twice I guarantee that. Taxed in our pay, taxed at the cash register, pumps, state, city, our homes and property. One tax is enough should cover everything
@@johnhardman825you’re not beating Uncle Sam.. they are getting it from you somewhere else. You can bank on that
American's give half of their money to the govt. Unless you are rich, that is.
It is a possibility, only if you have a combined income above $25,000 for the year. This includes filing joint with somebody. If the total income for the year is below that then there is no tax on Social Security at all. Majority of Social Security recipients already do not pay taxes on their payments. Something like that is more likely if they are married, and only 1 of them is even old enough to get Social Security while the other keeps working.
But anyway, why does it even need to be taxed? Just removed the Social Security income cap, set at $176,100 in 2025 (Earning above this amount will not have money deducted for Social Security tax. The more you earn the more you pay in, up to that cap). Remove the cap and watch the magic happen.

look up Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.
These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact.
A minute amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- to 6 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.
In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.
This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical
morass.
When catalysed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.
The word you are looking for is corrupt. Incompetent doesent quite fit the bill. They use to be public servants, now they seem to be being served by the public.caviar, steaks, expense accounts, insider trading info. Buisness as usual I guess.

There was once so much in the SS Fund that Reagan called it the Social Security Slush Fund concluding that there was so much money sitting there while the rest of the government needed funding. @@diegoaespitiaI like how you say private companies use their money as if most private companies don’t use debt/credit to buy equipment and make payroll. And as long as the company is incorporated, the debt is tied to the incorporated company and not the individual that caused the debt.

Keep your hands off the social security program. It needs common sense reforms but the working class people rely solely on these benefits. I agree with chip Roy on this one.
Problem being under current law everyone gets cut to about 78 percent of benefits when the trust fund money runs out in about 8 years. SS is not funded, it is going broke.

Sounds like you wasted 47 years of life on nothing if you can’t make it to the end of the month without going hungry. You were supposed to build your wealth and secure your retirement funds in those 47 years of working.
This is a capitalist country, not a communist one. Money is earned here, not handed out for free. Should’ve continued your education 47 years ago, education never ends.

Maybe if the government didn't "borrow " money from social security and not pay it back or if the government didn't give OUR social security money to people who shouldn't have it, we might be okay.
99.9% of Americans would have been better off with that money and investing it themselves instead of letting the gov't get there hands on it.
Because 2007 never really happened. Ask those folks from Enron how well that worked out for them.
Most people don't know how to save or invest. Tax money would still end up going to them later in some other way.
I don't know about that. Most people can't handle money.
Same thing about medicare, get it taken out of my check every week but still need to pay for a separate healthcare plan.

Don't hate the player hate the game
There’s tons of money put into SSI that isn’t claimed. People die before they can draw their SSI. People work regular jobs for 10 plus years paying into SSI and then decide to change careers and start working for the school district. When you retire as a teacher you have to pick your teachers retirement or your SSI, you can’t double dip anymore. Where did that money go? Then you have the people who are programmed to be in generational poverty. They’re taught how to work the system. They never work a day of their lives and collect SSI. The government needs to make law stating you have five years to learn a trade and after five years your SSI expires. The government can build vocational training programs for these types of people to attend. If they do not attend they lose their benefits immediately.
Did you pay into social security or a business fund called retirement. If you didn't pay, you shouldn't received Social Security at all. Even if you worked all your life.
My wife and I together have a 5 figure annual income our effective tax rate is 9% Donald Trumps 6 years of tax returns showed he had an effective tax rate of 3/4 of 1 %, Make the billionaires pay the same as us little people and the national debt would go away
Same old story. We’re not going to be able to adequately fund SS in the future, but somehow the gap between the wealthiest in this country and the rest of us continues to increase, as it has for decades. You do the math.
I know a lot of people in my family that worked 25 35 years and died before getting the first dime of their SS….
Yet they don't have enough. They squander it all.
How is it that if a company decides to put its fingers into its employees 401k it could very well go out of business. I’ve seen it happen. Yet our elected representatives can put their fingers into our social security and nothing happens.
Keep your hands off of Social Security!
I works for 40 plus years i paid into SS and deserve every penny back plus my teacher pension that I also paid into
True,
Same here. I fully paid into both while I taught in public schools. What's confusing some people is that not every state gives that option. Another thing that many are misinformed on is that teachers are paid for a certain number of days. I got paid for working about 180 days a year. Then I'd look for work over the summer just to make ends meet!
Raise the damn cap! If you make over 160,000 you pay NO Social Security tax. Take that cap off and the problem is solved.
So you're asking for more theft of hard-working people's money why are there so many states that don't have taxes and they seem to do better than the rest of us are being taxed to death
Amen to that
Yet they can still claim social security though they paid nothing.
This is NOT true - if you make more than the cap, you pay social security taxes just like everyone else UP TO 160k (increased to 176,100 in 2025). It is ONLY then do you stop contributing.
Totally agree.
If I understand what Roy is lying about, he's talking about the "windfall" loophole, which punishes people with state retirement by taking away their partner's SS when they die. That means that they now get to live on half as much as before.
Because the Government won't keep there gready hands off of it
Fix Social Security Now!
Project 2025 says it's communism, they are trying to kill it
Social Security is not broken and SS does not add to the debt it’s a separate account
The fix is to lower payouts, it is the only thing you can do. There are 3 workers supporting one recipient and that looks to be moving closer to 2:1.
I will say, I wanted Dems to win the election to at least gum up the works, but now that Republicans have all 3 branches of government, retirees are about to have a nasty wake up call when they 'fix' social security. It is a tax, it is an entitlement that the working class pays knowing that they will never be able to retire and the fix that people want is... raise contributions and the retirement age (again, we need 50% of you to die to make it viable). No. Lower payouts to match what is coming in. The treasure notes purchased by the social security fund are national debt and should not count towards pay outs. The US government messed up and needs to suffer the consequences today and not tomorrow.
It's not broken! It's the gop that wants to take it away!
Al Gore wanted to put lockbox legislation on SS so Congress couldn’t raid it and he wanted to beef up the account with the Bill Clinton budget surplus. But, W wanted to give a $300 tax rebate. Did that work for you? When did a R President ever give us a budget surplus? 😮
Social security has become a sad, sick joke on the American public-----those who paid into the system. If Social Security didn't have so many people on it who never paid in a dime, get disability yet work under the table, and more hanky panky problems, then maybe it might be solvent. The people pulling the wagon are getting fewer and fewer while the number of people benefitting from social security keep growing, far outpacing the workers' ability to keep footing the huge bills.
REMOVE THE MAX INCOME LEVEL ($168,600) OF THE FICA TAX. If you make income over and above $168,600 per year there's no reason why you should stop paying into the Social Security system.
What percent of Social Security payouts go to people who never paid in a single dime? They never talk about cutting off the free loaders, just screwing those who paid in all their lives. Where is the justice?
Answer= 0. You CANNOT get SS if you've never paid into it.
@@tomfields3682 Wrong. But, I know you don't mean it like most will take it. There is SS for disabled, and children.

This is terrible. The working people paid for their retirement into social security is unacceptable to now go to others. The money that the government took from ss needs to be put back. The American worker should also get interest that accumulated thru the years as well and get an increase due to inflation not a measly raise. Time to work on behalf of the American people.
When Reagon took office there was a surplus of Social Security money and he thought it was a great idea to "borrow" from that but never paid it back. Now here we are, SS threatened
@@maggiemurdoch5698 Wasn't Reagan, although he was President. It was the Democrat controlled House and Senate.
SSS has been a tax from its inception. Social security is not entitlement, it's the recipients money. Check your contribution. It is growing interest hence you're getting it. If you die, government keeps it.
Plain and simple many of us whether teacher, firefighter, or clerk in a government agency paid into the SSI fund with all the other jobs we worked at before and while working for the government. All we want is the monies we paid in to be distributed back to us on a monthly basis. I and many others see our SSI monthly benefit reduced by 66% and to me that is simply legalized thievery! I along with so many others simply want all the money we paid in as promised over the years. I worked and so did many others at government jobs that did not match private industry wages who need that money to pay bills, food, and insurance! Stop the thievery and eliminate WEP and GPO deductions for retired seniors!
People only pay into social security for the first 160k after that they pay nothing into it, so the burden of paying in isn’t shared equally I make under 160k so every dollar I make is taxed for social security, yet a billionaire is only taxed up to 160k, if they raised that maximum social security could be fully funded overnight.
I have been saying exactly that for decades
Exactly
So do they get back what they paid in?
But they will only receive the same amount as you do.

Leave Social Security alone! We paid into it, and its our Money!

remove SSI entirely, or have an option to opt out. I don't want SSI and thus i shouldn't have to pay in, sounds fair to me
The rich write the laws and own our poltiiticans. Until that changes it stays the same or gets worse. America will never be great again until this is fixed. And who better to do it that two billionaire bros.... we are screwed.
Apparently you don't realize those that pay in the most get the least back from SS as a percentage of their contributions. Those on the bottom end get far more than they contribute. But yet as long as you can tax higher income individuals to fund your existence then its ok. Sounds like socialism to me. IMO full retirement should be a privilege not a right. In the past that is the way it used to be. SS is like a big ponzi scheme. It depended on large base of contributors vs collectors and slow population growth broke the formula..
@@TiberiusCowgill The maximum Social Security payout is based on the $170,000 cap, not the higher income.
If you pay into Social Security, you should be able to get back what you are entitled to, not a portion, as the windfall elimination provision (WEP) dictates.
Yes I am one of those not fair
Most people get a hell of a lot more back than they put in.
And with interest.
