This is an absolutely fantastic video Chris! I really appreciate your thoughts! For the last few weeks I’ve been scripting and recording a video where I talk about every piece of EU media to be released Post 2014 decanonization!

Absolutely phenomenal my EU role model back again. I agree with all the arguments made. And also agree even with the most recent star wars celebration it still isn't time to give up. We all need Hope. Love can Ignite the Stars.

Good video! Brought up some really good points, made me think a bit.
It's going to be interesting next year for the 10 year milestone of it happening.

Great video - I always appreciate hearing your thoughts. I think Lucasfilm is leaving a ton of money on the table by not catering to a segment of the Fandom that is willing to throw a lot of money at more stories set in the EU.

I love hearing your insights and agree with the points being made. I hate to be pessimistic about it and as much as I'd love to see the story continued, I have no faith that lucasfilm under current management can produce those stories with the same quality. I will continue to support legends/EU in any way I can though. I Certainly hope to see it being acknowledged in a positive light by lucasfilm in a meaningful sincere way. Those stories kept star wars alive. This most recent star wars celebration was kind of sad honestly. I Would really have liked to see that part of star wars be represented in some capacity. They already have star wars visions, I don't see why they can't approach legends similarly.

I think the point of the quality of products under Lucasfilm's current managment is a moot point when it comes to the continuation of Legends. The management has made it clear that continuing legends is not their goal and many are even openly hostile towards Legends in general. What few bits of new Legends we have gotten since 2014 have come to us despite their best efforts to kill the projects before release and downplay and or trash them once they have been released.
Any permanent continuation would only come about once they are gone.

12:02 That's what they've been doing with Visions. They let non canon stories already(even dedicated a full novel and a one shot to one of the shorts) so there is NOTHING stopping them from producing more EU.

I just call the Star Wars Expanded Universe (which, might I add, is the only Official Canon of Star Wars) *'EU Canon'* and Disney's garbage *Legend Tales* in comparison. But as Kanan put it, *"There's always a little bit of truth in legends."*
Meaning that the only truth in *Legend Tales* that I find is the actual, surprisingly, good stuff (as few as it might be, and, trust me, when I say *"good stuff"* I think you know what I mean by what's *"good"* and what isn't) that can be integrated into the EU and doesn't screw it up, while leaving the rest of their crap (the actual bad stuff that we can all agree on) to burn.
Another great video as always, Chris. May the Force be with you.

I hope this is not an inappropriate question, since it has nothing to do with this video. But it concerns Yoda Dark Rendezvous which I know you are a massive fan of! Early on in the first chapter, Dooku relates to us how Anakin had recently killed a clone of Dooku on Serenno, but I have no clue where or when this happened! If anyone knows, please let me know! Thanks!

It’s a clever retcon to make sense of the fact that Anakin kills a Dooku character in a game called New Droid Army. It’s a quasi clone of Dooku.

@@ChristopherNelson1976 Thank you, sir! I just read about it on Wookieepedia...only the EU would bother to do something like this! :D

I haven't read past the New Republic era but I know that the story is unfinished and it's not like Lucasfilm can't at least conclude it.

I’m perfectly fine with continuing the EU (grew up with it after all), but the minute these same people start talking about how awful “everything” post-2014 is, I lose interest in continuing the conversation. It feels like a non-objective argument to me.

  • @KBlue-n4q

Problem is, Disney's storyline is not very good. So even if they started telling new legends stories, they would be created by the same people making the lousy product now.

actually I would say she ruined the story. She flat stated she didn't like Star Wars. I think that was the giveaway .It was a story that was loved and it's creator and fans loved it. It needed someone that loved it in charge.
Doesn't make her a monster: makes her the wrong one to be in charge. I think ego and a refusal to admit it was a mistake is why our story hasn't been continued. Spielberg recommended her. But he never had a story like Star Wars.
I have doubts they are taking this stuff because they love the EU stuff they put in the new canon. I think its a marketing tactic. I think no matter what WE want, they are trying to bury ours.

I would love nothing more than to have more EU, but i dont trust lucasfilm at this point in time to actually make it good. Almost all of the new canon books range from awful to mediocre, at least in my opinion. The only ones I would say were fantastic would be the thrawn ones. Most of their comics arent the greatest either. I really only was able to get into the vader ones. They have a terrible track record with handling legacy characters (Han solo, luke skywalker, Obi-Wan). As someone who loved the EU growing up and tried my best to get into disney's canon, the writing behind it is awful and unless they were to get better writers I dont believe their continuation of it would be anywhere near the quality we used to get.

Lucas was an extremely inconsistent man regarding his ideas, so i care nothing for his opinions regarding his ideas for Star Wars, specially with his prequel ideas and execution. It was the EU that kept Star Wars alive. It was the work of the EU writers that kept it working and fixing his screw ups. Sadly he continued his screw ups by authorizing the Clone Wars remake, placing KK in charge and selling out. The way the "big three" die is irrelevant, that was one of the biggest mistakes Lucas made in his prequels, making the worst versions of those events possible.
