I ve been making artisan grade skin care products for quite awhile. The number one rule in my lab is cleanliness. The manufacturing process is of utmost importance. Treat my work station like Im performing surgery. I have product thats still shelf ready , stored properly and used daily that was made 6 years ago. i would never sell this but these assorted creams and lotions are still stable...nice video. Thank you
I have a moisturizer that expired a year ago, yet the color is the same, the smell is the same, no weird texture, no nothing. I'm still using it in the morning and I have no problems with it. No break outs, no irriation, nothing. But I also kept it very well contained, I always put the lid on after use, I always dip my fingers after I washed and dried out my hands, I never dip in twice in the container, I store it in the bathroom in a cabinet that is not over the sink, it's somewhere on a side wall away from the sink and bathtub. How you use and store your products it's also very important.

appreciate the objectivity in discussing this topic, Doc. While I understand Dermas usually would err on the side of caution, you gave helpful guides para sa mga mapilit (like me? lol) magsulit ng products.
i would be most hesitant to wear expired sunscreen outdoors, pero if recently expired at may konting tira pa I think I can wear them indoors and avoid windows and sunny areas of the house
Ako rin kc nanghihinayang magtapon so I usually re-purpose expired products and apply them on non-sensitive areas provided they still look, feel and smell ok 😂🙈

Ma'am I have 2 fair and lovely cream.. Expired in 2022 and 2021...its new product I didn't use it.. Can I use now... Now iam going to college.. My skin is dry that's why.. Can I use it...... Financially it's difficult to buy another one
I have a NYX foundation drops that expired maybe 3yrs ago but I never used it that much I used it to add drops to other foundations.... However this shade isn't a current shade... I had to use it yesterday in Ulta to color match and it looked and smells the same
3 years is too long for me to use a product on my face but its ultimately up to you if you still want to use it or not, maybe do a spot test or try it on other body parts first.

Hello! I wouldn’t use expired products with active ingredients. But what about something simple as moisturizer? I have a pretty full container of vanicream that expired 3 months ago
Honestly, I would still use it especially if the consistency, texture etc are still the same. But do a skin test first and use on a small body part first.
my vaseline healthy bright lotion expired three days ago. Im very sad. I still have a good amount of product left. it still smells and feels good. guilty but im gonna continue using it.

Hey doctor thanks for the informative video... i have the ordinary niacinamide powder i bought like 8 months ago i haven't even opened it yet but when i checked it today i found out that it expired on December 2021 can i still use it?!
In my opinion, yes, especially since it’s in powder form which usually is more resistant to spoilage. But do check if there is any change in appearance and consistency since you first bought it. If none, i would say it is still safe to use :)
Yesterday I bought a foundation from online. I found out it will be expired 7 October, 2023. But the texture, smell all is ok. What to do? Should I return them?

Like i mentioned in the video, if the consistency, smell, texture is the same, it should be ok to use but test it on a small body area first.
Hi Dr. Gaile. Hope you are doing well. I would like to ask if the DIY or the over the counter dermarolling is good or advisable to treat or atleasr fade away melasma?
I definitely do not recommend that especially for treating melasma :) ung diy dermroller for hine use is to increase product penetration :) kaso melasma kc is a complex/multifactorial condition that may worsen with procedures like that done at home.

To remove them, I recommend undergoing acne surgery (extractions) done by a trained professional. And using keratolytics (eg retinoids) and exfoliants to prevent them from forming :)

What about Tretinoin? Can you use expired especially if it is unopened? Will it still work?
Tretinoin can be sensitive to external factors. Ako personally tretinoin, vit c and other products with ingredients like them i dont use pag expired na- just to be on the safe side

Few days back i bought CeraVe cleanser expire date is not mention what can I do?
If you just bought it a few days back theb most likely its far from expired. But i would still go and check the consistency, texture, color and smell.

Hi Doc Gaile! Hope mapansin po to 🥺 the epiduo i recently bought is manufactured in 2022 and with expiry on Sept 2024. I usually cant finish epiduo within a year’s time. In case di pa siya maubos after expiry date, can I still use it pa po kaya or no na? I know in the label it says no pero ang mahal po kasi to just throw out 🥺
If wala naman pagbabagonsa consistency, smell, color etc ok pa to use :)
Question! I've got some Walmart brand hello kitty Crème products, I think I got them last year, can't be sure exactly when though.. They are sealed, were kept in the garage in a small box, higher up though. The garage was usually very cold, although during the heat, it hasn't been too bad. The Strawberry Milk Toner shows 2F01F25, the pink water cream doesn't have any such print, although these were both bought at the same time. Any good?
Ok so,,,, say the product is say 6 months to a year old and it also says 12 months,, but it has never been opened, still has the sliver tab glued onto the product , can you still use it????

Good question, although you might be able to tell with most products when they are off such as the smell or odor being slightly off, if the product say a cream, started to separate into water and oil or if there is mold formation already.

Thats not too long ago. Check if the consistency is the same, no weird smell or change in color.
Hi Dr. Gaile nagwoworkout po kasi ako sa umaga ng 10 or 10:30 at alam naman po natin na dapat na maghilamos ng muka pagkagising sa umaga may nasearch po kasi ako sa google na dapat daw po ay mag wash ng face before and after workout and mas maganda daw po na magskincare after workout so naisip ko po na baka naman po madry yung face ko kapag maghihilamos ako sa umaga pagkasing,before and after workout and syempre sa gabi so ano po ba yung dapat kong gawin?
I recommend only washing the face 2x a day and after workout. Skincare routine in my opinion is best done in the morning before going out, and at night before sleeping.
I also recommend washing the face after workout and applying just a barrier cream or sunscreen if necessary:)
But ultimately it depends on your needs parin talaga. Ako minsan in the morning i just splash my face with water
Hello po Dr. Gaili I have here nivea creme from belgium. I think its 2yrs here.. Inopen ko sya b4.. Then today ko lng ulit sya naalala.. Wla sya expration date.. Nagtry ako iapply s my gilid ng hand ko wla nmn allergic reaction and still smells good. Is it safe ba to use it still?
If same pa ang consistency, small, texture most likely yes but ako personally i dont like using products that have been opened for more than 2 years on my face hehe

There are certain characteristics that make me decide whether pwede pa or hindi na gamitin ung products and i mentioned them in the video. Ikaw lng ang makakapagsabi kung ok pa ung product mo based on these characteristics. But as a general rule i dont use anything expired more than 6 months on my face :)

What about products nearing expiry? like say in about 6 months. Some expensive products are heavily discounted in the last 6 months nearing expiry and it's very enticing cuz it's unopened and there's 6 months to expire and you could finish it by then. I'd love to get your thoughts on this 😭

My friend collects Lipstick and they're very old like literally a collection like more than a 100 pcs n. Some of which mga 6 yrs or 10 yrs old na. Is it ok that she is still using?
Im inclined to say no, but ultimately, its really up to your friend.

I always put my facial oils last :) but it depends kc meron mga oils na emollients and occlusives at the same time.

Hi po! May tanong lang po ako. Pano po malalaman kung na irritated po ba yung skin dahil sa pag gamit ng expired cream. Napagamit po kasi ako ng expired tone up cream one time kakamadali, and after few hours ko pa po sya na wash. Ano po kaya yung pwedeng gawin para maiwasan yung skin irritation? SALAMAT PO!😊
Well first use gentle cleansers, avoid using products containing ingredients you are allergic to, avoid using potentially irritating products ng sabay sabay, and consult a dermatologist:)

Are you talking about xanthelasma? we use TCA for that but you might need several sessions to make them shrink or decrease in size.

Hello po doc! May tanong po ako. I have skin dermatitis since baby until now. I have plans to use skin products that suitable for my skin. What comes in my mind is Cetaphil and Aveeno since CeraVe is limited sa atin kasi sa ibang bansa talaga siya galing (Cetaphil and Aveeno rin pero sila mas nakikita ko sa mga malls). My question is: Which product is good or somewhat better to use as a skin dermatitis diagnosed person? Is it Cetaphil or Aveeno? Hoping po for your reply. Thanks!
I am familiar with both brands and to be honest I have recommended them both to my patients and they are both good, reputable brands. Marami din silang variants depending on your needs and preferences. The best way to find out is to try talaga. But sa tingin ko hindi ka naman magkakamali sa dalawang yan :)
@@irenegaile Thank you po Doc! I know these brands are quite expensive but we all know about the "quality over quantity". I would rather invest these products since it will give my skin towards a good phase in the run. Nakarma na po kasi ako dati Doc. I tried creams and lotions with some ingredients that may trigger my dermatitis. I thought po na loosing weight and diet will eventually mawawala siya permanently pero meron parin siya but not as worst before when I was fat. i have also Dyshidrosis in my hand as well. I know dermatitis has no permanent cure but I always wish someday meron nang milagrong darating. Not to be overreacting but it affects my well-being. Sorry to be slight emotional hahahaaha but yeah. Sa mga nagsasabing normal lang ang may ezcema at dermatitis, marerealize niyo rin kapag may ganito kayong kondisyon sa balat.
@@valjericholozada5660 that’s very true kc ung skin natin visible e, unang napapansin at nakikita ng mga tao, thats why it is understandable na you feel that way. For you first and foremost it is important to reinforce your skin’s barrier protection - use gentle cleansers, apply moisturizers containing a combination of emollients, humectants and occlusives - to identify your triggers and avoid them and lastly to tey to lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle :) it is possible to achieve “normal” skin, u just have to find what works for you :)

Hello po! I just have a question lang po about AHA toners. Can I use an AHA 5% toner po everyday? I'm turning 14 in a few months and my age is the reason why I'm thinking I should only use it 1-2x a week. Thank you po:)
I don;t really recommend using those ingredients to 14 year olds unless absolutely necessary. AHAs work by breaking the bonds in between skin cells to cause exfoliation, pag mga ganyang edad efficient pa ang pagpalit ng balat mo and hindi mo pa kailangan ng tulong ng exfoliants.

Discussing PAO, meaning same as with Expired Product, we can still use them but with risks? ie. Product Expiry Date: July 2022, PAO 3M, Opened the Product July 2021 therefore it can be use only till Oct 2021? Beyond would entail risks? 🤔🤔 Thank you for enlightenment. Sana mapansin.
PAO is just a guide. Ive used many products beyond their PAO without experiencing any negative effects. But of course check the product, even if it's before PAO or the expiry date, if you notice changes in consistency, texture and smell and the product just doesn't feel right, you shouldn't use it anymore. When in doubt you may perform a skin test :)

Hi Doc! What would you prefer to treat PIE? niacinamide or azelaic acid?
To be honest, for PIE I find that laser treatments work the best and the fastest. There is limited data on the efficacy of ingredients like vitamin c, niacinamide and azelaic acid in treating PIE. I usually give niacinamide in patients with PIH, PIE and a compromised skin barrier/sensitive skin, whereas azelaic acid to someone experiencing acne, with pih and pie but cannot use retinoids etc. for me it’s really a customized approach for every patient :)
