I currently have 2 death storage units. But we shut down each year during the winter months and do nothing but list and list. We will have all listed by april.

My downfall is not seeing flaws in items until I go to list. Then I have to list at a lower price and there goes what I thought was A good profit.

Kevin, we started chuckling during this video because we looked at each other and my husband said, “Was he secretly at our house!” 😂🤣😂 I’m very slow at listing. My issue is taking too much time on one item. It also seems to take me forever to get things packaged to ship out, so on those days I really struggle to get any listing done. I definitely need to figure out how to list more efficiently. A while back after hearing your advice on one of the channels, I implemented the: list 1 large item, 1 item you dread, and 8 items (your choice). It has helped tremendously on the days that I can actually sit down and focus on listing. Thanks for the tips!😊 -Iris

I'm a perfectionist as well, and I'm trying to let that go and not nitpick as much, but I'm so worried about getting negative feedback or a return that I will overanalyze an item. Sometimes, I do find flaws in items that I may not have noticed before when I go to take pictures because the lighting magnifies them. Then you either have to take less or make sure you indicate every little flaw just to cover your tracks. I have been working really hard at getting my death pile down, and it's almost gone as I have hardly been sourcing at all. I'm also doing a better job at getting rid of old things that I source that really aren't worth my time or effort to list. I know if I want to scale my business, I have to quit being so picky.

Our downfall is our sourcing is excellent but I can’t keep up with listing everything. Friends and family give us good stuff, free stuff on curbs, and church rummage sales- I have a huge death pile, need to research to weed out duds, and then another opportunity arrives- I hate to say “No” to items I know will sell quickly….but they can’t sell if I don’t get them listed!

All my new purchases are in large bags( like the IKEA bags). I keep them on a shelf in the garage and I rotate them so that the oldest bag is first. I catalog my items( so I know what I paid for them). While I am cataloging them, I create a draft for them with a quick photo of the item. Once I have several items ready for photos, I take the photos and edit them, I will add the new photos to the draft and delete the generic photo. Most of my items I will take 2-3 photos, larger items & shoes I take every angle of the item. When I figure out the price, I see what others are selling them for as well as what sold comps are. I try to be somewhere in the middle. I have learned that no matter what I think the item is worth, it’s not going to sell for more than what others are listed for. I save several of my photos, because I will run across another one like it and it saves me time with taking more photos. The only exception is if the new item is in different condition than the first photos.y

      Hi Mr. Commonwealth,
Thank you so much for the selling advice! I recently have a literal death pile. A little history, I needed to quit my job/move out of state/take care of my late beautiful bedridden Mother for the past 2 and 1/2 yrs. Now it's been over 7 mths since she passed and my Dad is letting me sell off her huge collection of VHS/DVD tapes. Plus a whole room full of QVC clothes (all brand new in the packaging!!) plus purses/shoes etc. I am learning everyday how to list/price/ship etc. And you have my sympathies about the passing of your dog😢. My dog 13 years and 8 months reached his end of life 2 weeks ago😢. So all new to the eBay world and really appreciate the videos and your family interactions. My son is named Turner and he is 23 yrs. old.

Being that your new from one old reseller to another, don’t forget to check out “sold & comps”, I started in 02 and stopped in 07 when I landed a Seasonal job at Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch up in TN, and re-started in 2013 and didn’t know anything about “sold&comps” and was giving my stuff away “for real”, cuz so much changed on eBay I didn’t understand it all. One day I finally called eBay and said everytime I sell why? Am I paying you guys everything I’m making. The biggest mistake was “I wasn’t using sell similar and relisting everything and the lady was kind enough to tell me to use sell similar instead that it wouldn’t cost me it would go against my 400 listings I could list for free. Just trying to help if you do not know this already. Times have changed so much.!
My Most Heartfelt Thoughts and Prayers go out to for your loss of your loved one! She will always be your guardian Angel and when you see a Butterfly it’s her passing by checking up on you and letting you know she’s there for you! God Bless and Stay Safe!
Plz don’t take that as me being weird just kind that’s all I promise Kevin knows me. Kelly from Ocala,Fl stay safe always you and your dad. God Bless you I lost both of mine years ago and still miss them so much. Too long a story no one told me so it makes it even harder. I have paired down projects over the years... now have a bin that I add to for the donate pile as I list- THE "is this worth my time pile"? And I every 2 months or so- bring it to whatever thrift store that I am going to. Funny story- the last time I went to Goodwill I had some comics (boarded) and a few other vintage items. The intake guy was gushing... held the comics to his chest and went into the back room so happy. That made me smile. Donated a $2 comic and someone was very happy- win win

My biggest enemy is time, since I’m a part time eBay seller. My second largest issue is space. I have a dedicated space in my basement that’s around 10x10 and I try to stick to that area. When things get cluttered it really bothers me. I try to buy and sell quickly so things don’t build up. My next issue is, when to let go of an item that’s been listed for a while that just doesn’t get views or watches.

Thank you for the reminder. After “ruining” several buyer’s Christmas; I go on vacation on all sites for two weeks (12/11/-12/25). This makes MY Holidays more enjoyable. Usually “lost” sales are more than made up for with after Christmas gift money. November is my dish sales month buyers getting ready for extra family members/guests for Thanksgiving. In past my worst last minute Christmas sales have been a return because it didn’t arrive on time; last minute gift was not wanted by recipient; along with several less than positive feedbacks.

My biggest enemy is space and organization- I lack both. As a part-time reseller, I never created a dedicated space to do the things I need to do to resell, and to store items that are listed, and ones waiting to be listed. I have a large unfinished basement that is heated and cooled (was basically a woodshop for the original owner)- I need to clean it up/out to better utilize the space.

Absolutely correct. I recently had a string of returns and 3 broken items all in a week. It sucked but it didn’t stop me. I sent the refunds and tried to figure how I could have avoided these issues. I didn’t blame the post office or the customer. Never occurred to me to do so. Every business has ups and downs and every generation thinks their current issues are new. Sorry. Not the case. Bad stuff has been happening forever. Pivoting is the only way to be successful.
I’ve had negative feedback and if I think it’s wrong I’ll send one request for feedback revision. That’s it. No more time spent on it. Too much to do. And again I analyze why it happened. Love your channel. You’ve grown immensely.

I'm also guilty of taking my sweet time listing items, but I'm very much a part-time reseller with a full-time time 9-5. I try to stand out by providing above average photos and descriptions, and yes, my pricing somewhat reflects that (I try to be in the upper half of the range, but not unrealisticly high). This method works for me, and I'll keep doing it until it doesn't. I dont think either of us is wrong in our approach. We just have different goals and limitations.

That’s a perfect response. Different things work for different people. I can’t take photos and list at another time; I have to have the item in hand to list. I research but not a lot. I don’t clean too much. Both seem like a waste of time. But this is working for me as a lucrative side hustle. I should be listing now, but we are having an unusually sunny, warm day, so I’m prioritizing a walk.

It isn’t the cleaning of that Tupperware that’s the problem; it’s the drying time. I rarely clean anything. The buyer can clean it how they see fit. I wouldn’t buy a piece of tupperware and just put it in my cupboard. I would wash it. That’s how most buyers would be, surely. I also don’t like to take photos ahead of time because then I have to remove them from my phone. I take them as I list. I like to list about 10 items at a time. One after the other. I can’t do it unless the item is in my hand, so listing as I have time doesn’t work for me. Sales increased incredibly about the beginning of October. My death pile is huge. I wanted to take a fun trip to a thrift store about 45 minutes away, but I stopped myself because I haven’t listed all of what I have from that shop now. Today is a warm sunny day, so I’m prioritizing a walk around town. I don’t really count my time as in how much I’m getting per hour. This is my side hustle. My hobby. Some people do crossword puzzles or crochet. I eBay. I’m clearing about $500 a month. Im pretty happy with $500 extra a month. I have no idea how many hours I put into it. It doesn’t really matter. It’s $500 I didn’t have before, and I enjoy this.

Good morning! My newest problem is that I have tried to source smaller, valuable items recently. I picked up a bunch of Amazon jewelry returns from a friend's bulk buy. In there to start were silver screw bracelets. Once I realized they weren't really from Tiffany's. I pouted, listed them as "fashion jewelry ". Did auction style beginning at like 13.98. I had loads of bids on both. My excitement is growing and kid you not, both got pulled for policy violation! I didn't list them as real. The category was fashion. I don't see where I broke a rule. Now I have a death pile of jewelry that was selling well, I'm afraid to list.

Kevin - meticulous photos of some vintage items are mission-critical, and meticulous perfectionist measurements for things like shoes keep returns down. Descriptions must be exact..or else. All of the eBay boxes have to be ticked too, otherwise your item won't be seen. Thirty minutes per vintage item means you're working too quickly and missing stuff, and returns for undisclosed damage will be lethal. Everything sellers can get away with it, but niched down vintage dealers can't.

This was a bit hard to watch. You described me to a T. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I recognize that and have realized my biggest downfall is I am a slow lister. I do the research. I take good pics that I then crop and edit. I write the kind of description I'd want when I'm shopping eBay (altho I do do a lot of copy and paste). It frustrates me when I shop for myself that the pictures aren't good, not enuf details and NO description. I have a LOT of pleased customers, but I am limited in my selling because I am a slow lister. I am buying less and sourcing quality items that sell for more, which offsets my slow listing. And I have a big death pile. I'm desperately trying to work thru the good stuff, and I've starting going to flea markets to try to offload items that haven't sold, or those I don't want any more to clean or list. I'm on social security, so my reselling is bonus on top and helps so much. I would like to step up and will work towards becoming more efficient. And I am considering a small storage unit nearby to move inventory out of my house, some at any rate.

Hi, and thanks from ohio for your videos. My wife has just started her eBay this month. She is having trouble boxing up her items to ship. Could you show how you box up difficult items. She has sold 11 items in two weeks. I'm really worried about a set of 3 Pyrex bowls with bids, going off soon for over $100. 😮 Thanks, from grandmas-finds.
