You are spot on , as a native New Yorker and a Jew! I have been eating bagels since 1965. And you put it so eloquently.Pop up Bagels definitely ain’t it. There are so many good bagels shops in Manhattan but a bunch of gems in the outer boroughs that really started the bagel trend in NYC. Thanks for always giving great and honest content.
i grew up in NYC and i just cannot get over the fact that they dont even slice open the bagel for you!!! what is this nonsense. and that tiny tub of cream cheese is too small for three bagels let alone FIVE
Lack of flavor of the dough is what I was most curious about. Makes sense that people would praise them since many are used to that style and only taste the toppings.
Those bagels suck. Finally someone said it! Everyone I had them with said I was crazy. They’re just not that good . I live near a Tal and their bagels at 5pm are better.
Finally a serious review of these bagels! I agree with you that NY bagels in general lack depth of flavor (where can I find a good sourdough bagel?). But these are missing the maltiness and chewiness/density of a classic NY bagel (probably because they don't use barley malt and they clearly do not hand roll their bagels the traditional way). Not to mention the whacky menu. Let the tourists enjoy it!
Hey Jeremy. I’m from LA and a BIG fan of tour videos. I’ve actually taken your advice and have tried many of your recommended restaurants/shops in San Diego and Montreal. Your spot on on your reviews. Thanks for the great videos!
To introduce myself- I’m a retired teacher- home baker & most importantly a grandma- not your usual constituency but I’ve heard so much about these bagels & finding out they had a shop in Newtown, Ct - halfway between my Berkshire home & Brooklyn - I figured I’d stop for lunch. I knew nothing about them so I thought I’d get a sandwich for the road- of course I wound up with a tub of scallion cream cheese & a wooden knife- I was very underwhelmed so I tried this morning toasted with the cc - meh - so I looked on line to see reactions & I found your site- right on - as a born Brooklyn Jew in the days of real appetizing stores & bagels not feeling or tasting like Wonder Bread - this is pure internet hype (remember the Cronut - cupcake wars?) The best bagels for me? Barrington Bagels in Great Barrington, Ma - come up to the Berks this summer & give them a try!!
This reminds me of the so-called "bagel wars" in Toronto. There are 3 distinct camps and none are anything to boast about. The one true king of bagels here changed their recipe and now also taste like nothing.
@@BrunchBoysI would also say Tal, what would you describe the texture as? Because I always think I enjoy a more pillowy bagel, but I've been told chewy is best..
This is silly. It would be like down-rating L'Industrie or Razza because when you bring their pizzas home and reheat them in your oven or eat them cold, they don't taste amazing anymore. The shop goes out of its way to give you an exceedingly fresh product, that cannot be separated from the assessment.
I loved your review. So many YT'ers will never allow themeslves to say anything bad about an establishment. I loved the honesty.
thank you!!

right!!
glad it wasn’t just me who felt this way
ok right!
I don't like these bagels that have a light texture inside. Bagels should have chewy texture.
yes!

They are not bagels. They are a thin crust French bread.
fair!

Wish I watched this before trying it yesterday. Spot on
I regret trying
sorry to hear that!!
But who is the hallmark best nyc bagel then?
Highly recommend getting another bagel. It’s the best bagel in the world. Bad batches are possible with any bakery.
You are right thanks
thanks!
Which is the best bagel in NYC in your opinion?

Whats your favorite bagel in ny?
haha I can relate to this feeling
im still so confused lol
"all that for $24, which I don't think is that terrible" Yep, only a New Yorker would convince themselves it's not.
5 bagels, plus smoked salmon plus a tub of cream cheese. Doesnt matter where you are, thats not going to be cheap
