Stopped in today for the first time. Long line, but worth the wait. Awesome, voluminous sandwich and bagel options. Scott entertained those waiting with a great, loud music selection of The Eagles, Stones, and Beatles while alternating between work and playing air-guitar behind the counter and hollering "Happy National Bagel Day!". I thought he was kidding, but it turns out January 15 is National Bagel Day. Scott's enthusiasm isn't feigned for the purpose of the video. He's clearly into making bagels and having fun while he does it.

If you have ever tasted a truly great bagel, still warm and fresh, there’s nothing like it in the world. 90% of “bagels” are tasteless circular baked breads that taste nothing like a real bagel.

I have a friend who is from Rockaway Beach New York. Hasnt been in years though. So I ordered him some of these for his 36th birthday and had them shipped to him in Florida. He gave his firm stamp of approval.
Top notch owner. He tells people to making mistakes is the best way to improve. People need to feel safe to be their best selves. He gets it, and I certain his employees love him for it.
As a home bread baker I love to watch other bread bakers at their craft. I make my bagels the lazy way by poking a hole in the center and forming the hole. I love how he says "everyone coming out of the oven is different." Perfect is for factories.
Aside from the actual bagel making, just the operation and logistics of having thousands of bagels in multiple fridges that need to be rotated and made sure that they don’t sit anywhere too long. That is a huge job in itself. What a great crew!
This is one of the best documentaries about bagels. I really would love to go to Queens for Bagels and visit Utopia. Scott, you rock man. Kudos to you for keeping it traditional, hand rolling, boiling and making such beautiful bread :)
this is a man who loves his job. what an inspiration everyone can learn from. nowadays, people only care about how much money they can make from a job, but they forget if you do what you love, you will become the best at it then the money will naturally follow. if you don't like your job and only do it for the money, no amount of salary can stop you being miserable every single day. I speak from experience, having walked away from a job most people would consider very high paying; sooner or later you realize happiness is far more important than any amount of money. having everything under the sun is pointless, if you don't have the one thing that counts in life - happiness.
Another awesome small business owner on Eater that has made me really want to try their product. I love how this channel really tries to bring the backroom hard work that America's small business have to do to bring to us what they love and what makes them unique.

Nothing beats a poppy from La Bagel Delight. The best.
As a Canadian I prefer Montreal bagels.. but these look tasty!
They look so tasty! *Happy New Years! Love from a small RUclipsr!* ♥
@@vc8538 Montreal bagels are the only bagels in the world that can definitely give NY bagels a run for their money.
He’s always laughing and smiling. I’d support this business for that reason. A man who loves his job is passionate about perfecting the product. Love this guy
Many years ago I visited this shop and I loved the bagels. I never thought I'd see a video that explains to me why I love their bagels so much. I lived in CT for 13 years and loved to go to NY to visit my uncle and eat at different places. Eater has made it possible to see inside these places that I hold dear to my heart.
They probably smell so heavenly when they're baked. This is so neat to watch. I need an onion bagel, now.
A hot bagel is to die for. Trust me
@@dudepilot Omg, I bet. Smh
Oh you have no idea I grew up literally across the street from this bagel place I used to wake up at 5 am just to get there fresh bagels and in highschool me and my friends would be up all night eat bagels at 5 am and then go to sleep lol
@@bvb2393 Nice.
How about some chorizo
Stopped in today for the first time. Long line, but worth the wait. Awesome, voluminous sandwich and bagel options. Scott entertained those waiting with a great, loud music selection of The Eagles, Stones, and Beatles while alternating between work and playing air-guitar behind the counter and hollering "Happy National Bagel Day!". I thought he was kidding, but it turns out January 15 is National Bagel Day. Scott's enthusiasm isn't feigned for the purpose of the video. He's clearly into making bagels and having fun while he does it.
You brought tears to my eyes when you said, "any craft making it by hand is special." So deep. I crochet.
"Charge whats you need to charge, but make sure the quality is there"
Love it!!
The most important part of most breads is the slow, flavor building, cool, fermentation. This guy is a master. I soooo want one of his bagels.
Im not a big bagel fan . but the way he explained the process, the way those sandwiches looked and the love they have for their product really impressed me
If you have ever tasted a truly great bagel, still warm and fresh, there’s nothing like it in the world. 90% of “bagels” are tasteless circular baked breads that taste nothing like a real bagel.
Amen only part of the catholic school i ran off from i miss is the homemade handrolled bagels from the library basement cafe. They had a sourdough culture that has been going since 1911 @estherruth4692
"Mistakes are a good thing to happen when you learn from them."
Cooking 101... such a mature statement from a great chef... or any profession for that matter. Best lessons are learned through mistakes to achieve perfection. To which perfection may be never truly achieved in cooking (via a great chef) through his/her lifetime. Continually seeking the perfect bite. 💯💯💯
Sadly it's hard to learn with precision whyn you were able to succeed, but with pinpoint accuracy you know where you made a mistake.
I've watched this guy before from another show! And I'm glad he got more screentime so he can explain more and honor the people who worked for him who contributed a LOT w/ how the bagels were made
I have a friend who is from Rockaway Beach New York. Hasnt been in years though. So I ordered him some of these for his 36th birthday and had them shipped to him in Florida. He gave his firm stamp of approval.
You're a great friend.
Top notch owner. He tells people to making mistakes is the best way to improve. People need to feel safe to be their best selves. He gets it, and I certain his employees love him for it.
Nothing like the best bagels in NY. I remember having an everything bagel from Utopia for the first time. It is LIFE CHANGING.
As a home bread baker I love to watch other bread bakers at their craft. I make my bagels the lazy way by poking a hole in the center and forming the hole. I love how he says "everyone coming out of the oven is different." Perfect is for factories.
I have a huge respect for this guy. I’ve never seen anyone with this amount of passion for their craft. I’m definitely gonna order from him.
This guy and his team are awesome.
An absolutely essential part of his community.
Don't ever stop doing what you're doing. 🇺🇸
It's so great to watch an expert just explain his craft. It's clear he has so much passion for the bagel place still to this day!
this is a man who loves his job. what an inspiration everyone can learn from. nowadays, people only care about how much money they can make from a job, but they forget if you do what you love, you will become the best at it then the money will naturally follow. if you don't like your job and only do it for the money, no amount of salary can stop you being miserable every single day.
I love this guy. I use to make bagels. I didn't roll them but I kettled them, boarded them ,and baked them. got up at midnight. was at work by 2am out by 11am. and I loved when people would say ....wow these are so good. utopia bagels are amazing. this is way.

I've been going to Utopia Bagels since I was 6 years old when my mother would take me every Sunday.

Best bagels in NYC.

This guy is classic. A business class in 13 minutes. So enjoyable. Time to order their bagels!
This brings back fond memories of working at Bethesda Bagels in Maryland over the summer and while in Highschool. They too also used the “old school process”. The whole staff would dance to the Macarena early in am while the bagels were baking. We had loads of fun in process of making bagels and serving the customers. Oh the nova lox, white fish on everything bagels were unforgettable. My all time favorite were the tuna melts with Swiss cheese, alfalfa sprouts and tomato as well the raspberry Rugelachs cookies. I will never forget my time working there. Such a great staff to work with. I will definitely check out this place on my next visit to NYC. Superb interview!
I've gone to Utopia and these are by far the best bagels in new york. He is such a nice guy in person and he doesn't mess around with his bagels!
my personal favorite bagel spot of all time, born and raised in queens. This guy is exactly like this is person! Great boss, Great workers, even better bagels . Check them out if you're ever in New York!
Grew up down the block from here and work not to far away. Best bagels in ny hands down
My grandad has been a baker for over 60 years. I love everything about this video.
This is one of the things on my bucket list, getting a good NYC bagel. I've lived in NY my whole life, but haven't ever had a chance to go to the big city. If I ever can find time for a vacation, this bagel shop is my first destination.
My goodness you better go and see!
Wow. Imagine living in new york your whole life but never seeing NYC. That’s wild.
Love this gentlemen's attitude and passion for his craft. I'm from Southern California and had these amazing bagels shipped overnight with lox and other goodies, Superb!
I highly recommend these bagels if you have not tried these yet, damn now I'm hungry 😁 Happy New Year ✌
I was gonna do that. but $50 for a baker's dozen bagels seems too much to justify. But then again I'm not a rich man. So perhaps for other's it's worth it.
@@cphoover11 I hear you Charlie, by no means am I rich yet 😁... Gold Belly is pricy but definitely worth the experience. I saved up and made different purchases for special occasions and was able to bring New York bagels,Jacques Torres famous chocolate chip cookies and other goodies with time.

This guy’s passion for bagels and old school rolling of the bagels is interesting and inspiring.
His bagels look amazing! The respect he shows his employees is awesome and he compliments them. You don't see that very often, and long-term employees say a lot.
He is what Jocko Willink calls a Leader. I've never baked a thing in my life and he made passionate about baking bagels! He has the attitude, the charisma, he leads by example, awesome! Damn, from his talks, we can tell this guy just really love his job, and that is the most important thing in here, the enormous passion he had over the bagel.
It’s crazy to think guys like him are literally keeping traditional bagels alive by having a place of employment for the rollers. If there was no job, no one would bother to learn the trade. I truly hope young bakers watch this and are inspired to learn the craft, and continue to pass it on

LOve this video, I taught myself how to make bagels as there hard to find good ones in Auckland NZ, and we were in lockdown, I even found American cedarwood for sale and that jute material to bake them on, I think I got a good result but watching this I've now learnt more secrets like the refrigeration period, so thank you to all involved for making these great videos.
