I am 73 and a ND fan. I was born in So.Bend. ND's tv station WNDU used to broadcast home games. This was before network coverage. They would broadcast the halftime program. I miss that ! Nowadays they just give halftime stats and blab.
7:32 one drone malfunctioned and it just gently flew to the ground. Then can see it's vacant spot in the rest of the formations. That was really amazing.
It's the one that kept losing it's position throughout, moving in widening circles. Loss of GPS/RTK accuracy ? Best to land it than risk it striking another and losing two uncontrollably.
@@luisderivas6005 i dont think it was a gps situation it was most likely a gyro information packet being read in properly, if the drone says its tilted 1 degree to the side it will try to auto correct itself by giving more power to one side, but by doing that it will raise the side making the computer think it is level, then it will fly off to one side because in reality it isnt, then you got the computer trying to autocorrect its gps location which will cause it to do slow rotations around an area.
At 7:30, what happened to the drone that dropped out of the O in the word OHIO ????? Did the batteries 🔋 die out on that drone ?? As the video goes on you will notice that, that one drone is missing
This is really cool and on par with OSU's band program and being innovative. I do have 1 huge issue and that is the obvious lack of the band. I understand they are performing in the stadium but this is missing half the show so there's no connection here. as cool as this is, it would be so much better with the band being heard.
It’s cool, but should not have been done during the band performance. The drones didn’t match anything the band was playing, so it just divided the crowd’s attention.
Impressive technology. But, at the same time this scares me and makes me uncomfortable. The Star Wars clone battles don't seem so ridiculous now. The future of conflicts? Yikes.
Let me guess: you're an UM fan? Congrats on one victory in ten years and two victories in 17 years. LMAO. Have fun with your next championship in 2045.
One day one of these shows will go south and the drones lose comms. High speed propellers hitting the packed people in the stands. It has happened with fireworks and other stuff so do not think it cant happen with drones. Give it time
They don’t fly them above people - the FAA wouldn’t allow that. Notice that they take off from an empty field and stay above that field the entire time. Flying them directly above the crowd would be far too dangerous and a major safety violation, not to mention the university wouldn’t want that kind of liability just for a cool light show. I guarantee you nobody is underneath that flight area.
@@drumology2001 Well if they lost transmission and went haywire then they’d be out of control then, correct? @@rtanidean4931 Sure, I suppose there is some truth to that - anything technical can go haywire. I would just imagine that the incidence frequency on something like that would be quite low, with less threat if you’re flying a fair distance from the crowd viewing it. I would also guess that a system like this that can accurately account for and precision control several dozen drones in the air simultaneously - with the express purpose of entertaining large crowds - would probably have a level of “failsafe” redundancy built into it. But that’s a guess on my part. (I’m basing that on my experience of ~1,000 hours of study and flight time in Part 107 operations.)
@@drumology2001 Ya mean like planes over runways that crash into homes? While rare it does happen - that includes same fail-safes as well as humans to try to help intervene. Always good when skynet puts on a show for the people

Military application via government-funded research

people been doing this with drones for over a decade, you seen the videos where drones build a wall?
Amazing display of drone autonomy and formation flying. This was not an easy accomplishment. Congrats to whoever put this together.

They land when the battery is nearly depleted. At the end you see several come down out of order/formation.
It became a sentient being and decided it did not like be made to do such things.
Imagine the military implications for this technology. Spooky.
