Father Guido Sarducci was Such an Unsung Hero. One of THE BEST SNL Characters, Ever!!
Years ago I went to Hollywood club to see a jazz musician, and Father Guido opened the show! Huh-larious.
@@boblozaintherealworld3577 Coooool!!!
Pope hat is a fish head
I don’t know if you ever saw the book the Lazlo Letters, but that’s one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever read. I also met him at the Roman forum, dressed up the day before he got arrested by the Vatican. A lovely chap.
The 10 Suggestions. 🤔... 🤣😂... Father Guido Sarducci, definitely one of my Top 3 Favorite SNL Characters ever. 🤩
There have been many great character4s on SNL over the years, But I think That Father Guido Sarducci has got to be the best!
Father Guido is so lovable.
Don was a genius. his "find the popes in the pizza"bit still cracks me up
"all the popes are red...except one"
@peepsk771 It used to ,I've seen it here. Keep looking, I will too!
My favorite is find the popes in the pizza.
He is still great.
"I'll-a give-a you a hint. There's-a one behind-a da desk-a..."
“Like Martin Luther they’re still mad at him.” And I’m dying :)
other than the reference to Luther, i found the skit painfully lame
@@westsidedavid1102 I’m sure telling me, a person who wasn’t alive when this was even written down or said, was the right person to complain to.
@@westsidedavid1102 you must be a bunch of laughs at a party ,DAVE..
@@westsidedavid1102Lighten up David
As a Lutheran, the pain is real.... and absolutely hilarious! 😂
I am so happy that Guido finally made Pope. It's a huge improvement.
Gosh I miss his skits. They always made me laugh!😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
40 years ago. Still insanely hilarious!
Lmao 😅😂Happy 🐣
The papal pantsuit, priceless.
😂 His skit on “ The Last Supper Check” still has me in stitches!!! 😅
Bill for the last brunch. 😄
“Papal pants suit”. Gold!
Funny he used the Godfather reference. Don Novello had a small part in Godfather III, and when they went to the Vatican to shoot, he was not allowed in as he was on the list from an unauthorized SNL sketch they had shot or at least tried to shoot from several years before that.
He was just brilliant as this character.
Was fortunate to see him perform at a small, on-campus club in 1970. The guy was hilarious! Still have his book, The Lazlo Letters!
I always loved Guido. I remember the "Finda da Popes inna da Pizza" contest.
Will ALWAYS love "Father Guido Sarducci"-have for decades-will as long as I have a memory! TS
Father Guido Sarducci is hilarious. I really love his comedy. I wish he would guest star on snl again!
I miss him.
Donald Andrew Novello is an American actor, comedian, singer, writer, film director and producer. He is best known for his work on NBC's Saturday Night Live from 1978 to 1980, and again from 1985 to 1986, often as the character Father Guido Sarducci. Wikipedia
Born: January 1, 1943 (age 78 years), Ashtabula, OH
@@BrianCarnevaleB26 Just say the niggas like 80 lol why you copy and pasting Wikipedia?
@@BrianCarnevaleB26 He's 80 now (I did math!), still living, and I would LOVE to see him revisit his roll as Father Guido Sarducci as an older man.
@@moosewhizzerdave2066 I would too, don't look to SNL, though. I don't think they're allowed to be funny anymore, except for weekend update.
Smoking a cigarette... classic 😹
I went to Catholic schools for 12 years and Guido was right. 'Monsignor' is a big deal. Better than a priest, but not the responsibility of a Bishop. And he never got the promotion. (this was a genius bit)
Monsignor...= The Middle Man....waiting to become Bishop. Elevated but not enough to make trouble.
@@Bigbassdrum60 literally = middle man? perfect. I always thought just getting to 'monsignor' was cool enough. But I guess like any big company there's always pressure to get into "management".
If you haven't made it yet, it's too late now. Pope Francis has stopped handing "Mgr"s out.
@@faithlesshound5621 Crap. And I was just about to join a seminary. Guess I'll just go for that computer science degree.
@@boblozaintherealworld3577 Or you could become an economist, deliver homilies about "moral hazard" and wear your collar back to front.
After 45 years I still remember this character. When SNL was funny. I am taking lunch break and walking around the office and out of the blue I am thinking of father Guido Sarducci.
I miss these oldies and goodies!
You can call me Maurice….Steve Miller reference for sure.
🎯🎯🎯
Remember this is a comedian.😂
weet weeeooooh 💋
Never will be another Guido Sarducci ❤
Still funny after all these years.
To this day, I have *NO* idea what talented, genius performer portrayed "Father Guido Sarducci", but if that guy wasn't the PINNACE of perfection via performance, I just do not know what would be. His natural, conversational, yet utterly comedic and compelling deliveries were always outstanding.
Novello as Guido...ALWAYS funny. The cig/ashtray motif, the nods; I think he wrote his stuff?? Anybody know? HAPPY NEW YEAR folks!
good thing he used the cig as a prop instead smokin a pack like ole morton downey jr hk
I believe he did write his own material, yes.
@@dmann1115 Perhaps this is a goofy question; by any chance might this have been a response from Mr. Novello himself?? If so, a distinct pleasure sir...
He not only wrote his own stuff, he was a writer on SNL for several years.
He wrote a few books. The Laslo Toth Papers is the best.
Excellent portrayal of the true nature of priests!
Father G is my spiritual advisor...
Love Father/Pope Sarducci!
Have you ever noticed that you never see father Sarducci and Tony Iommi in the same place at the same time? 🤔
You may be just paranoid
I can't believe this guy was actually Vinny in "Atlantis: The Lost Empire"
I don't understand why they don't show back in the beginning of SNL. Those were great ones with real talent. I haven't watched SNL since the early 80s.
Then you missed the best period - the late 80s early 90s - Phil Hartman, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Dana Carvey ... I could go on. Legendary cast. I watched SNL in the beginning - even remember the Muppets - but it was never as good as it was the late 80s.
SNL goes in and out style, and then a new generation takes over. We're in between right now, like around the Charles Rocket era.
@@aquamarine99911 I didn't say anything about not showing them. They just don't show the ones from the beginning of SNL. They were the best. If they weren't as good as they were there wouldn't have been any of those others.
@@jimwelsh997i mean they have every season on peacock tv. I’m about halfway through season 4 right now.
Was this after Father G was arrested by Italian police in Rome? He claimed he didn't know it is a felony to masquerade as a Catholic priest in Italy.
He was probably pulled over for speeding
Really, they should arrest the pope for free loading along with the Royal family.

I'm hysterical. 😂 can't stop laughing.
The papal pantsuit! 😂
Awesomeness then and now.
A Very talented comedian!
lol the ten suggestions hahahahaha
:05 Dennis Miller: "Gossum columnist" No alcoholic beverages were harmed in the making of this skit. But quite a few may have been completely consumed.
I remember seeing this when it originally aired. Anytime anyone mentions a pope I think, "Hey, I'm-a Da Pope."
Find the popes in the pizza
I remember it also,it was quite the talk of the time
And who can forget the skit about the Dope Smoking Pope Soap on a Rope
And in a twist of hilarious irony he was in Godfather III. 🤣👍🏻
This guy’s hilarious. I watched him in the 70’s. Sarducci’s best line to me was: “…masterbation, it’s a cheap sin, but it’a can’a add’a up. 25 a 25 a 25.”
😄😄😄
❤ Father Sarducci!
Don Novello, comic genius.
I still think of his discussion of UFOs, pronounced OUFOZ.
This video was when SNL was still really really good!
The best. The rest is less.
i seem to recall "the ten suggestions".
I remember the "Find the Pope in the Pizza '
I always loved Guido- still makes me laugh- MAURICE haaaaaaaaa, ALL MAN ARE POPE HAA. PANTSUIT FOR FEMALE POPES LOL.THE TEN SUGGESTIONS 🤣 he's soo funny
Guido says, "You can call me Maurice". It's got to be a reference to the old Steve Miller Band's The Joker.
I was a kid and saw this, so I sent the self addressed envelope and actually got back a certificate of my status as pope in the People's Catholic Church. Unfortunately it's been lost in ER the years but I got one .
I am not sure if it was actually him or just a loving callback, but I loved seeing the Father try to get rid of the ghosts in the beginning of the Casper movie from back in the '90's!
Father #GuidoSarducci was always the Best on #SNL And Blessings this Sunday September 26th 2021 #Fan from Minnesota
I was the pope once and my husband dressed as a Viking...
It was Halloween and at a recovery dance at a Catholic Church..
Sidenote we didn't pick costumes..thank you Jesus he didn't paint his face that night ..
Don Navello. Love this guy!
father guido sarducci worked in the same lab that i worked in the 1980-90s.
On Ash Wednesday, guess where the ashes came from.
He should be illegal. The 10 suggestions. Pope "shut the hell up Dennis " i love 💘 MONSIGNOR SARDUCCI
I am so glad he got the respect he deserved amazing General.. sidenote I was once a pope myself it was 🎃 I don't mean to brag or anything... it was just Halloween no big deal..
He’s been elevated!
Some people call him Maurice.
Comedy genius
Those were the days, my friends!
I loved "Finda da Pope in the Pizza" Contest.
3:00 Pretty sure he slipped in an f-bomb there.
"You know, F'n Two hundred and fifty."
loop @ 3:03
I heard it too.
"You know, costs you Two Hundred and Fifty."
@4:25 Get Hillary or Tulsi... THE PAPEL PANTS SUIT!!! IMHO.
“Some people call him (Pope) Maurice (wheeep! wooo! 😎) …” 😂!
We need Father Sarducci Now More Than Ever 😁!
Make SNL great again!
4:25 "or pope-ess. i haven't decided yet." (i enjoy giving notes.)
When this first aired I wrote in and all I got was a card without a stamp or signature. Maybe I was supposed to fill it out and send it back in.
Well if it isn't Dennis Miller. What the hell happened to you man?!
Q
If you grew up in upstate New York, you encountered quite a few Father Guido Sarducci's.
If Father Sarucci were the Pope, I’d go to Mass EVERY Sunday!
The good old days.
Father Guido Sarducci was fucking awesome! Now - here is an idea for the modern SNL: Host the presidential debate, for real, with real questions and expecting real answers, but with a few SNL-comedy questions tossed off to make it fun and to keep the audience alive. Why SNL? SNL is known to be somewhat equally hostile to just about any president across time. Softball questions aren't expected to be common, and fact-checkers will be on hand. Also, comedians tell the truth in ways regular media cannot. So, what says you?
The good old days!
Arrivederci, tutti!
I'ma gonna be Bozionicus the XX1 because it's a sound cool. 10 Suggestions I like.
"The 10 suggestions" 🤣🤣
He had me dying laughing. Evil a spirits Evil a spirits.
"like Martin Luther, they're still mad at him" 😂😂
Love the last brunch skit.
I’m really tempted to send the self addressed stamped envelope.
That was molto bene…thatta means very goodah
a classic!!
Dennis Miller has the uncanny ability to destroy that entire wonderful 5 minute bit in 3 or 4 seconds.
Love it, miss them❤
Iitsa right for me, you know whata meana? Call me Pope TacoBella
HES Believable, 😂😂😂 Funny Guy !!!!😂😂😂😂
The ten suggestions....😂
This was way back when SNL was actually funny.
😂🤣🙏🤣”The 10 Suggestions.”❤🤣😂🤣
Father Sarducci was on an episode of Married With Children to try to comfort Kelly when her dog Buck died. You never saw anything as crazy.
Don Novello wrote many classic sketches when not playing the Father.
Loved “New Mall vs. Old Mall” skits.
Self Proclaimed Pope.
Actually showed possibility. That outfit on installment plan.
He could really pontificate.
I have a complaint. I never heard who won “fina the Pope ina the pizza”.
Love da smokin pope a!
The Mariano Rivera of SNL. He had one pitch and it was unbeatable 😂
Find the Pope in the Pizza! I'd like to see that bit again.
Love the cigarette. This skit doesn't work nearly as well without the smokes.
BRILLIANT!!!!!
I thought I wassa gonnaa diie.
What a cool clip!
