The VFX are an insane achievement. You don’t even think ‘this is a CGI ape’ when you’re watching it, you’re just invested in Robbie’s character and journey
Lucky enough to have seen a preview of this - it’s ****ing incredible. I really really hope people go to see it in droves cos it’s got SO much to offer - heart & depth & spectacle. You honestly won’t be disappointed, whether you’re a fan or not. 👌
i saw it the other day at lighthouse theatre, and i have to say, it’s probably-most likely-the best performance i’ve ever seen from a digital creation. yes, even better than caesar from reeves’ apes, and i didn’t think anything could surpass his performance in those movies. but somehow, weta has outdone themselves again with robbie. 5/5, must watch and the musical biopic of the year.
I’ve never heard of Robbie Williams till I seen this movie. And this movie is absolutely incredible. I seen it at a mystery movie and this ended up being it and I initially was dissapointed cause I wasn’t interested in it. ended up hitting the credits with tears on my eyes
Got to see it today. The novelty of a CG monkey swearing, snorting up drugs, and singing sold me but it actually has quite a lot of heart and things going on. One of my favourite films of 2024!
"I feel the love you give me and I give it back to you" @RobbieWilliams 06 December 2024 Rome. Thank you, it was an honor for me to be there that evening and shake your hand. You gave me back all the love possible with your music ❤️
Weta strikes again!! I did guess it was done in performance capture, and I’m glad I guessed right. But also I really CANNOT wait to watch this. Also, the idea of portraying Robbie as a monkey never surprised me in the slightest, it makes perfect sense if you know how dear the theme of dealing with fame is, and also as someone who loves his song Me And My Monkey to death, it was a no brainer. I just wish and hope the song is in the movie in some form.
Absolutely fantastic, however at the end of the movie, Robbie as the chimpanzee should have turned back into Robbie Williams the human being, revealing himself, as the "Better Man"
I get the notion that the monkey is how he sees himself. But it does absolutely nothing for the movie. Other than take me out of it every other second.
Look i love monkeys i love apes i love robbie's music but this just seems like a strange direction for a biopic i have ever seen might as well just listen to the music now dont get me wrong digital art is amazing and seeing the monkey on the screen is kinda breath taking but i just dont think it works in this context
I think it is only to those who don't see themselves as human beings but I get the points of this film knowingly this is what I see myself more often but I refer to myself as a woman but literally I'm a guy but it works for it because I see the vision making it useful and plus I see myself as roger the alien all the time every persona I make in one day
@@misimatokastanley im a transwoman myself but the fact that he pulled himself out of the movie and used a CGI monkey in his place just its way to serial for me
He’s not making it himself, they invited him to help with the motion capture modelling. There are very few music biopics produced after the subject had died.
You are very much mistaken. Reviews have been sensational. Having seen the film it will take a fortune at the Box Office and is already doing so in countries where it's been released.
@@DavcoMediaTVreviews? Like sponsored content from “news” sites that get paid to rave about how pioneering it is? Or like the bots flooding this comment section?
Concept is just weird as f****. Either you go all out with animal CGIs like a Pixar or animated movie.. Or you use humans to portray a character But this, this is just weird.. putting a realistic CGI chimp, played not even by the actual singer, pretending to do the story of a singer and it is only inspired by it. I can gurantee this will be a global flop. 100%. I'll return and confirm after the movie is out and after 2-3 weeks
Why is he a chimp!?! Is BETTER MAN the live action version of SING? Why aren't the other people animals? Not a fan of the premise. Also, Robbie Williams seems like a stronger reference to the alienation of an exploited stage performer than the increasingly archaic reference to a performing monkey.👀And while I understand why they turned a monkey into an ape, it's not even a performing monkey any more! 😹 Granted, if it's really a Robbie Williams biopic, like 8 MILE is to Eminem, it would make more sense somehow: use the chimp to allow viewers to hold the real RW at arms length, and open up the possibility of greater empathy with a cute little animal placeholder for the alienated narcissist. I talked myself into watching it 🤷♂
The latter bit you wrote is precisely one of the reasons the director went with the CGI ape device: people have greater empathy for animals than other humans and can relate more to the plight of an animal than a celebrity.

The CGI is off the balls insane and amazing feat for the CGI/VFX industry. Best VFX for Oscars!!!
Hoping the VFX get an Oscar nomination. Amazing motion capture.
Amazing? I don’t know about that. Looks pretty crappy if you ask me. The movements are not natural at all. Still very uncanny valley.
