Updating to 11 now. Looking forward to it... but absolutely not because of an AI virtual assistant... lol. Like the songwriting AI steaming pile of #*@& App suno, Ai is never going to replace Art from the truly talented. Ai generated music / songs (especially the Ai fake voices) hurt my ears, hurt my brain, and makes me feel kinda sick. But hey, if you're laying down ideas, don't have a big budget and just wanna get something down quickly to be refined down the line, I think it's ok. Just some thoughts from an actual muso ;)

I agree it’s not replacing real talented people but it will be perfect for me as I create backing tracks and I don’t expect perfection I want speed of creation and simplicity to already very well known songs I actually don’t want perfection I wan difference to original but nice of I should say a different version of a well known song, so this might be perfect for me , but time will tell after I have a good fiddle with it.

A cool tip I found elsewhere - you can use Arrangement Track for Intro-Verse-Chorus-Bridge and the AI Session musicians will alter their performances for those parts! I haven't tested it that much, but it might help get the right feel. You have to set up the Arrangement Track first, then set up the Session AI musicians after that though.

It seems as though you were not familiar with even the older version of Drummer. You can section drums by the arrangement track, which apparently no one uses these days, but if they did you can have your drums adapt to the arrangement. intro, verse, chorus will all have a different feel and can be adjusted separately. Just FYI, I also understand this is more of a first impression video, but not knowing some basics can really give bad impressions to the viewers about the update when actually these are very powerful tools that deserve a proper introduction.

Hi Corey, thank you for your comment!
I love logic and am very familiar with Drummer, it has made its way onto quite a number of demo's from my studio over the years!
"You can section drums by the arrangement track" - absolutely! That is what I do when I use it.
I focus on a particular area, which is all I really did in the majority of the video.
If I hear something specifically I still need to convert it to midi to adjust it. I think it would be amazing if I could send to Session Player a sample of what I want then it does that specifically but better ;)
It is a first impressions video. In the video I just give my two cents worth, as it stands, although I see it's uses, and as I mentioned it definitely has some, I don't feel it will put session musicians out of work.

Try a different approach, unless you are a drummer then start with your most proficient instrument. Play a riff on the keyboard, guitar, or bass first. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Then add the drummer which will play something that matches your riff. Continue adding the other session instruments and you’ll be surprised how good the result is. Then go back and replace the instruments with better plugins if you have them, such as Superior drummer, NI guitar and bass plugins, keyboards as well. Replace and refine until you’re happy with the results.

Hi there - thank you for the comment! ;) I agree completely that is has a use and I also like and agree with your above approach. If I was to use it - the way you have suggested is completely how I would see myself using the functionality. I have programmed drums before where drummers have gone, who is drumming? but the programming takes time, mind you I don't mind spending time! BUT I love what a good session player brings to the table on my productions....YEARS of practise / experience / feel, the sound etc...for example....in Nashville the guys listen to the track once and literally smash down a take that could be heard on radio. For me to get anything remotely like that with Session Player in Logic is going to take a lot of work ;)

Is there a way to convert the chords from the midi into the "global midi track" so I don't have to manually type in every chord into the global track that I want the bass to play along with? It’s not a work around. It’s a super convenient way of programming drums. At the end of the day you want everything in MIDI, so you can separate by pitch and create a separate track for every piece of the kit anyway. Plus, now you have the manual option. The global chord track is also ingenious.

      @SvenTydemanMusic  2 месяца назад

Hi James ;) Thank you for your comment! I agree it is a GREAT way of PROGRAMMING drums! ;) I 'program' already with numerous programs. I like it, depending on the song, it won't replace the need for a "real" session player. Like Steve mentioned in the comments "if you're laying down ideas, don't have a big budget and just wanna get something down quickly to be refined down the line, I think it's ok". And to add to that comment like I did on the video - there will be people that will do well using this!!
Similar to the drum loop in Logic that was made famous by Rihanna's "Umbrella".
And yes - I also agree that Chord Track is great. I mentioned in the video that it may likely mean that (some) producers will need to sharpen their music theory knowledge.

      @SvenTydemanMusic  2 месяца назад +1

That is such a good point to consider COPYRIGHT!! We all have the same apple loops. Remember Rihanna "Umbrella"? That drum loop is Vintage Funk Kit 03 in apple loops. I am sure there will be some people that will have some big hits with some of the Session Players functionality. Everything that Logic Pro has will be copyright free, it is more the fact that once people associate something with a song (like Umbrella) it is hard to un-hear it.
You cannot copyright a chord progression, or a title, and I would make sure you copyright your song through your songwriting society as soon as you have written it.
Songs are AUTOMATICALLY copyrighted as soon as they are either written down or recorded. ;)

I'm not for AI at all even outside of music. I would say this... For people getting down ideas with it until they get a hold of musicians to come into the realm of working with them may be ok. If the producer/etc decides to take the easy way out then it's going to be on them. These new AI tools sound too generic as much as it looks like a scare we just all have to keep working hard and overcome with it!!!

    • @SvenTydemanMusic
      @SvenTydemanMusic  2 месяца назад +1

Hi :) thanks for your comment! I hear you and mostly agree!!!
I / We use AI in everyday life already. With computers, DAWs to create music, music, transport, etc…so I don’t think technology is bad! We are using it right now to communicate :)
The uses of these so called AI Session Players are not bad in and of its self. Like you said…”getting down ideas…may be ok”. But this update doesn’t replace the need for actual musicianship.
Actually in a sense I think there is a greater call now to hone your craft in songwriting and musicianship and the opportunity to be different by being a great songwriter / artist :)
At one stage of my career I used to tune every vocal perfectly, it got to a point where I CRAVED hearing a normal vocal that wasn’t perfect. Man I was silly 😂
So now I tune, only if needed, certain notes to keep the integrity of the performance - of course that is subjective and will change greatly depending on the genre!
I also agree that without manipulating the sound in serving the song - then these AI tools (I don’t even think they’re AI to be honest) will sound generic.
      Just some thoughts :)

You’re kind of lacking foresight in my opinion. Technology is growing exponentially. This first Logic AI can’t replace top session musicians yet but they can equal or surpass your jam buddy bass player or some Fiverr guy. But do you think it’s just going to be stuck at this level for 5 years? It will be able to replace the top session players within 3 years - just watch! Music production is over as you know it. You’re like a man who has been shot in the heart but doesn’t realise it. It’s already over. Within a year, not even a pro musician will be able to differentiate between AI and real musicians. As part of my job, I’ve spoken to top engineers in this field - and they are frightened. You are oblivious and trying to diminish what’s happening. We have to face reality and look ahead if we have any chance to survive as artists beyond 2028.

@@SvenTydemanMusic Thanks, Sven! I'm just keepin' it real.
I wrote a song with the AI session players a couple days after it came out. And came up with one of the catchiest melodies I have ever written (on top of their chord generation).
There were some notes from the keyboard player I zoned in on, that sparked a fresh completely original melody.
I'm 49 years old. I've jammed with guys, but at this age, we're all busy with jobs, wives, kids, etc. I tried putting bands together, I tried writing with others. They always fade away.
So, I didn't feel much difference getting ideas off what the AI was spitting out compared to what my former jam guys tossed out. AI has just as many little odd notes and quirky and interesting choices as any human I've jammed with before.
I selected a cliche chord progression, but for the chorus, I punched in my own chords. But why use normal chords? I threw in some shit I don't even know how to play: E7 sus2 add flat 9, stuff like that!
I got a major jazzy fresh flavour that led me to write a strange melody - they are some of the most interesting songs I've written in the last year, I have to admit.
Now, as for the future, and believe me, the future is just about NOW! Currently, everybody and their brother is "an artist". It's cools we can skip the corporations, but now there is a wall of noise from anyone with GarageBand or free DAWs - 99% of it is absolute SHITE. TERRRIBLE.
But it takes up space. It Buries great music (like what I make - ha ha! - half joking).
But now we are competing against machines that can make song with AI singers or singers that sound just like John Lennon and Elvis - they can make a thousand, I don't know, 10 thousand songs a day - and flood the market waiting for what sticks.
You think these consumers - 14 year old girls mainly - give a shit if you have a fancy "real" session musician playing a bass or drum or even singing, as they half-listen through a tiny speaker on their I-phone?
They want a a pounding 808 with no verses, just three hooks slammed together, about human body parts.
What I see happening is your phone or computer or car will hear you say something about Beatles and your upcoming trip to Africa.
Suddenly, you're getting new music and video suggestions - all AI created - with songs about Africa in the style of The Beatles. And there will be ads attached to these songs.
AI is now altering content to match not only your surfing habits, but out of that, it's making a psychological evaluation about you in order to create content that you almost have no choice but to click on - and they will make billions off of this.
This is what the engineers at some major banking establishments are telling me is ALREADY HAPPENING. This is not science fiction - this is right now.
AI is NOT another tool. See, we're not used to "tools" turning around and using US as the tool. That is what this is. It's not like ANYTHING we've ever experienced, and each day, it's getting more intelligent, more real, more powerful, more ubiquitous.
Corporations will get rid of human artists. They will promote AI artists, and AI "Legacy Groups" and mash ups. The Beatles will be touring again soon - as holograms, with all new songs, and they will be good.
Artists thought they were so special - I certainly did. I've dedicated my entire life to art and creativity. I have an MFA from one of the top 10 universities on the planet.
But deep deep down, it's just math. Look at Leonardo DaVinci geometric-based paintings. And under all music is simply math. It's learning at a super-rate how to use math to put sounds in order, that creates ad revenue. It's that simple.
How are you going to compete with 100,000 2 minute songs a year, put together after analysis of millions of songs that have been proven to get clicks? And let's say you beat 'em. You right a better song.
Who is EVER going to hear it from the flood of millions of songs of content? People will only see what the platforms want them to see, and they want to do it as cheaply as possible. Without paying humans.
You want to pay a human $1500 to license their little song? You can get AI to do one, very similar, for what, free to 20$? In the near future, a company could probably get a package, 20 new songs a year to promote their business for $200 a year. I can easily imagine that.
Anyway, that's my view on it. There are content music creators that are admitting how afraid they are. But it's rare. That's why I really wanted to speak out and say, Sven, man, wake up. These AI session things are NOTHING. I promise you, within a year, our culture is going to be unrecognisable when it comes to content, ads, entertainment, and music.
The history books will be divided like this: Pre-recorded music, Recorded music, AI Music.
I think humans will continue to make music, but not to be "rock stars", because it will be taken up by AI - but for personal therapy and exploration, with a few micro fans sharing songs and tips. Not sure where else it can go.
Those are my thoughts! You asked for it, ha ha!
(Did I write it even? Or was it ChatGPT? HA HA !)
I definitely would like to see a follow up video from you in a month or so about this. Do some research as well... I'm sure you will find it as interesting as it is frightening. :)

Hi Morbid, thank you for your comment. It was a 'live' first reaction video. As I said, it has it's uses and I along with you guys will become more fluent over time. Hopefully you learnt somethings from my mistakes!

I still way prefer session musicians! The AI session players seem good for just smashing out a quick demo of the song (in my opinion), and you still have to program them.

Well music taste is completely subjective! We are all unique and I think it’s good celebrate our uniqueness uniquely :) if we all use the same tools the same way we are all going to sound the same :(
