    As you said: the iPad launched in 2010, and it killed off the netbook phenomenon (albeit not immediately). So most people were not using netbooks as a device that "did more than their basic smartphone", simply because smartphones weren't at all that common at the time. People used them because they were cheap, small and portable at a moment in time when we didn't have a smartphone with us at all times.

      True! By the time we started seeing more useable netbooks in the 10-12” range, smartphones and iPads had matured enough to be the better product. However, I would love to see the netbook make a comeback. In a way, we're starting to see this with devices like the GPD Win which are small, powerful, and can still run a full version of Windows. However, they are extremely expensive, which is why the Chuwi Minibook X is a very interesting product.

    Some websites are inaccessible to smart phone or tablets.
    Like reddit.
    Some reddit post will require you to view it on there app.
    Or some websites end up having hidden menus or becomes janky when viewed on an android or ios.
    Maybe because of poor webui design.
    Or the webui was designed on a full blown computer on the first place. Hence when viewed on a different device like android or ios. It becomes different.

      When smartphones and tablets first came out, websites were not optimized for the mobile experience. However, I think the mobile browsing experience has come a long way!

    In other reviews I’ve seen they have not been happy with the battery-life. What do you think about the battery?
    The battery is one of the things I miss from the classic netbooks. My Asus netbook (one of the last modells) often had 10h battery and 7h if you pushed it.

      To be honest, I haven't done a thorough battery test on this device yet. I would recommend taking a look at the manufacturer's results and testing conditions as well as other reviews. Yes, I've also seen that people have been unhappy with the battery life with this particular model and I'm confident that it would not last as long as some older netbooks that were running for 10+ hours. I guess battery life is the main tradeoff for the increased performance + compact size.

    I need 8 to 10 inch windows tablets to comeback. Safari is garbage and that's all the cheapest iPad has. For now my Pixel tablet will have to suffice. At least I have a full Chromium browser on Android.

      I’ll be doing a review of the CHUWI Minibook X versus the iPad 10th generation soon. Have you tried some alternate iOS internet browsers like Arc?

      @@phoeyedtechguy they're all just safari. I got tired of trying different browsers on the OS that also didn't want to multitask.

    I’d say that cutting the size lower than 13 inch is not worth it. You don’t win much in size, but you lose in trackpad, battery, screen, etc. Even iPads are 13 inch now. But I can imagine some people may need such a small device.

    • @phoeyedtechguy
      @phoeyedtechguy  Месяц назад +3

      I wouldn’t use this as a primary device, but it works well as an inexpensive secondary or travel device. There is a significant size difference between 10” and 13”, but like you mentioned, sometimes the performance trade off isn’t work it for the smaller size.

      So you just ignore Apple's cheapest and super popular 9.7 inch iPad to make your point valid...ok ..

      @@orangeyellow-me1pz talking to me? I know the base level iPad is supposed to be the netbook replacement, but typing on a touchscreen is terrible. Once you add a magic keyboard folio, all of a sudden it’s a $575 setup versus the $349 Minibook X. The big question is whether the extra $200 is worth it with the iPad 10th gen setup. I’ll be doing a head-to-head in-depth review soon to answer that question.

    • @orangeyellow-me1pz
      @orangeyellow-me1pz Месяц назад +2

      @@phoeyedtechguy no, it wasn't directed towards you. It was directed towards the original comment. Also, you don't have to buy that expensive keyboard thing. There are clamshell cases that cost $20 off Amazon. I wouldn't buy an iPad though. It is just too restrictive of an OS for my needs.

      @@orangeyellow-me1pz i’m actually planning on purchasing a cheap magic keyboard for the 10th gen ipad for my testing as well. I wish apple made a floating one for it like with the ipad pros.
