Jason, a suggestion for the sheep: since you only have 2, make smaller paddocks to force them to mow things down evenly. The big paddocks are problematic as they don't have enough time to eat it all and pick and choose the very best to eat first. And its not like you can extend the stay in the paddock for them as you don't want them on the same pasture for too long due to parasites. If the paddock size now is based on the size of the fencing you are using, maybe use 1 net to make two paddocks.
We don't feed grain, but just enough to tease them so they'll follow. That worked til our ewes had lambs and the lambs couldn't figure it out and didn't care about grain. The lambs stayed back during a move and the momma ewes wouldn't leave them.
Wow, those plants in your high tunnel look huge! Nice job growing your food! I like the sheep. They look happy! Thanks for this video Contreras family!
Hi, Jason! The turkeys are looking good! I’m still praying for them every night. Those are the prettiest sheep I have ever seen. I love the color around their faces.
You're doing a great job. You're working hard. So much to do. Though you and LORRAINE are blessed. I miss seeing Your in laws. Praying 🙏 they are well. SE MICHIGAN 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
You can buy a shop vacuum head for a 55 gallon drum which you could use to fill the drums. I bet you could rig something similar with a regular shop vac.
WOW your Barn is just amazing & I love how tidy your entire farm is- my motto is a clean farm/workspace is a safe one. My entire potting shed (which is huge) & my vegetable gardens are kept clean & clutter free at all times. Great Video Jason. Cheers Denise- Australia
Ive seen some kind of contraptions were you use a leaf blow, pvc pipe and you can pull the feed right from the tote to the barrel just by blowing the leaf blower.
Podcast Topic; Camarata Video an hour ago 'Bad Day doing Tree-work' without fire extinguisher in reach, his Excavator ( his biggest ) burnt to ground, he was helpless until fire department found him, miles up mountain, had he had his own Firefighting equipment, ( water tank ) it also wouldn't have been in reach, regardlessly, only a working fire extinguisher can save the day ! The Fire extinguishers that he then bought require Servicing / Recertification twice yearly ! Andrew replaced Excavator with a new ( same ) model, zero hours of use on meter, the fire started small until it got big !
Another thoroughly enjoyable episode. ❤ No-one likes losing a nut. 😆 Aye. Sheep are selective & seek out the best, most nutritious first and eat their way down the chain until the least is all that remains. The story of Scotland's over-grazing and current lack of bio-diversity in the countryside.
Still "on the fence" about whether to do our own meat chickens next summer, so I'm always enjoying information about the process. Excited to help some friends process their chickens this fall, after helping a few weeks ago for the very first time! I would definitely love to participate in one of your butchering workshops if we were a little closer. I really enjoy learning from you both!! Blessings, Marie
Love your videos, I watched many videos some multiple times during the duration of my raising of freedom rangers, just ordered some Cornish crosses less than a week after killing the rangers, but did terrible at keeping up with consumption quantities. So going by what you said they average about .3 pounds a day per chicken. Also didn’t even think about organic by the tote we are super new to this thanks again for your awesome informative content!!
this is if you had a tractor you could hold up the bag and put barrels under it and use the hole at the bottom of the 2 ton tote its a pull and seal hole hugsssss
You need to get younger sheep and them you halter break them, fun time at first them there fine, or just pail train with a little grain, Still lots of work for you, Grasses sure have come up nice now, Great video again thanks
I got so lucky with my first batch of Freedom Rangers. They have the CX gene in them and were ready to process in 7 weeks. I actually kept two of them as egg layers. Those two and two slow red broilers are egg laying rock starts, dropping 3-4 eggs a day on average. Little slow down right now with the heat (FL) but I'm super impressed. I have 14 week old Cornish Cross roo and two pullets coming up that will join them soon. Should be interesting to see how the meaties perform as a flock. So far a 1.5 years it's gone better than expected.
Bourgeois designer sheep and pigs. Down at the Sow the Land boutique livestock galleria, You get the coolest looking animals. I miss the fancy porthole brooder.
I love how the piglets won’t get near you when they’re first born and now they’re all around you for the scratches and pats! But I also saw the water running out of the hose when you were giving water to the pigs and when it doesn’t rain for a while, every drop is precious. You could use a spray nozzle or just fold the hose over about 10” back and hold it till you get to the water pan and back again to the valve at the tank. Not a homesteader but I enjoy watching your channel and a couple others. Today’s video really shows how much is involved in raising all the critters. It’s not just food and water, it’s equipment and land management, even (relatively) minor surgical procedures. And I learn something with every video! 👍👍👍
Sheep don’t like overgrown grass, they like it quite short. I think they will keep it down better if you mow so it’s not so overgrown before you let them on it to graze. Not right before though, you don’t want them to eat the clipping, but some time before so it’s not so overgrown but the new grass has started to grow again after the mowing. Sheep also tend to be less skittish when there are at least 5-6 of them, they need a herd to feel more safe and confident.
Jason when are you doing another live chat .I joined up late to your last one. You gave me an honorable mention LOL, but I had an internet glitch and missed out. Robert Johnson from New Jersey. You can just call me Bob:) 😊
You got a nice place now! Great farm ! I was wondering if you plan to get cattle? I think I know that soon, you may get some meat cows and your meat ones, which would be cool! Anyway You'll be doing great video!
This second litter of piglets is much friendlier than the first set, they are tiny and letting you pet them already, I remember the last batch was not so keen on you petting them for a while. But you were also more nervous back than.
Very helpful observation about the chicken grit and the yellow. Thank you. How do you know how much pig feed to give? Your pigs look like they are fighting for food. I know that is normal but the amount you put in seemed enough for mama but not for all the piglets too.
@@SowtheLand I wish one of you North Carolina guys would get the black wrinkly Chinese pigs… I hear they are tasty but less trouble than the woolly ones .
Maybe it's time to treat the Sheep to some oats as a treat and get them to love you through some oats. Then you can get them to love and follow you with some oats.
Hi..... Jason and Loraine nice to see you Love watching your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍

Yes great idea. Also sheep are also naturally more skittish, witch is why herding is a thing with them
That barn is unrecognizable compared to when you first moved in. Such an improvement.
Man i remember watching the unloading video….how far you’ve come. Congrats on all your success sow the land
Thank you Jason for making this Video was a big help!
Sheep are like chickens, easily trained to follow you with a handful of grain in a tub, shake it and they will come running 😄🐑🐑
so far they been stuck up. Lol

I love your farm. It's so neat and organised. That's how my farm will be.
Jason is so wholesome man
THE SOUND SHEEP MAKE IS CALLED BLEETING, THEY ARE SO CUTE.
Thanks

I just love your farm … and your videos and your family. God bless. ❤
we appreciate it. thank you so much!
On the bottom of some totes they have a funnel to feed out the bag. Lift the bag up and look. It will make unloading them much easier 😊
unless I can't. control the flow? yikes
Wonderfully raised animals; your family is great! Thanks for sharing! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
What a difference all that tall grass makes compared to the last and first years on the new place! Love the videos!!

We raise Cornish cross birds also. I also put grit in their food.

Love your content & down to earth, realistic telling of how thing go (Good & bad).

I get my Cornish cross tomorrow. They eat a ton. My sheep are the least costing animal on the farm. ❤❤❤
this is if you had a tractor you could hold up the bag and put barrels under it and use the hole at the bottom of the 2 ton tote its a pull and seal hole hugsssss
Jason is trying to live with in his budget and make do
sheep's eat a lot of grass and grass has water in it so that makes them less worried about water hugsss

they're going for the clover :)
Now you need a couple goats to eat the talk grasses so you don't have to mow the grass.
Amazing troubleshooting skills.
Awesome video. 🥰 I love your day in the life style videos and following along on farm chores. 👏👏👏
Jason when are you doing another live chat .I joined up late to your last one. You gave me an honorable mention LOL, but I had an internet glitch and missed out. Robert Johnson from New Jersey. You can just call me Bob:) 😊
Look into fledbag Jason. Might improve your unloading time.
Jason, Will you mow behind the sheep? I see others doing that. Thanks for the video!
he should, then hope for a good rain then the grass would push again
Blessings!
My grandpa always said that sheep would not eat any grass over ankle tall. ??
Another day on the farm. God bless.
Great video!
Great info guys!
Hey Zeke! Thanks for watching!
Oh, CONCRETE would be so nice to have!!! Tim in northern TN
so nice
Sheep get a lot of their water from the grass
You got a nice place now! Great farm ! I was wondering if you plan to get cattle? I think I know that soon, you may get some meat cows and your meat ones, which would be cool! Anyway You'll be doing great video!
I am looking
Maybe if you give the sheep a smaller paddock they would eat more of the long grass. I dunno I like in Kansas City.
Animals don't like "tall grass" They like it a bit lower. It is sweeter.
My sheep hate the tall grass,
This second litter of piglets is much friendlier than the first set, they are tiny and letting you pet them already, I remember the last batch was not so keen on you petting them for a while. But you were also more nervous back than.
funny you say that I think it's. the opposite. Thanks!

Have you thought about getting a 280gal ibc toat and a Grain gate than you could just load it into the toat and move the toat round
not sure about that.
Can a tractor company please sponsor you!
I have no idea - but have you checked the turkeys for mites?
I have seen videos where lots of birds died for "no reason."
Maybe give them a dust bath?
I'm curious Jason, are the totes returned to the source to be refilled? They seem strong and reusable.
Keep the solid ruby pig please. It is soooooo cute. Can you grow rye or barley grass? Will the chicken eat that? Would it be cheaper?
are the chickens that are different varieties actually lay eggs or just meat or both, and does the meat of each variety taste same? 😄🤗
How do you keep rats and mice out of that turkey feed?
in
Interesting vlog as always, Do you get bigger chickens with the red ones?
💕💕🌻🌻
Great video
Would be nice if you could find a farmer that would mow your fields for hay.
Are you keeping any of the Kune litter for harvest, or time for a different breed? Keep getting it brother
I love this breed
@@SowtheLand I wish one of you North Carolina guys would get the black wrinkly Chinese pigs… I hear they are tasty but less trouble than the woolly ones .
The Meishan is the one I mean, not the giant black one .
I think a sheep bleats (sp?)?
Care to share cost per bird for the CX at this scale?
that's. another video
Do the red ranger chickens have a better taste than the Cornish cross chickens?
depends if you like darker meat or not
GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS 🙏
🐝thanks for the great video🌻

Good evening from 🇬🇧 22.50 hours
Do you think you could tell me where the video is the audio is there but there is no video
maybe you have it on mute
Those chickens are looking nice and chubby😊
meatballs
👍🏻👍🏻
Paddock too big for two sheep. You’re giving them a choice to be fussy what they eat. That’s why the less desirable grasses are left.
Are you going to get more sheep soon ?
trying
Jason, get 2 goats they eat everything. Not picky. Then eat them. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
💕💗💕🙏🙏🙏 Have a blessed day!💕💗💕
Sheep “bleat” AKA baaaaa baaaaa
Doesnt seem enough feed but what do i know
dang, don''t say that. Lol
Helo farming . how are you ?
Bleating is what sheep do.
I was thinking your boilers eat every bit of feed you give them. 😁
all of it
Sheep bleat 🐑🐑🐑
Now you need goats to eat what the sheep won't!
Oysters shell
You can put 2 of them on it
i'm confused
sheep bleat jason
Looks like goats would be better suited for that long grass
Nooice! 😎 STOC
Sheep’s bleat!
I hope you get a dog to defend. Man's best friend
he has good fence all the way around
