  • Produced by Crystal Nichols, formerly of the Rogue River Watershed Council, and featuring WaterWatch of Oregon's Jim McCarthy, this video details the demolitions of the Harboldt Dam on Slate Creek and two other fish-blocking dams on its tributary Welter Creek in the fall of 2021. Until their removal these dams prevented native salmon and steelhead from accessing the cold, clear waters of Welter Creek in the Applegate subbasin of the Rogue River for 80 years. In the spring of 2024, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) biologists documented fish for the first time in the habitat above the uppermost dam site as part of their periodic surveys of this heavily forested creek near Wilderville in Josephine County.
