Served 20 years in maximum prison there. It's a blessing to be alive. I'm shocked that there are still no plans in effect...this post is years old as testament to this...I constantly pray for the brothers left behind in these inhumane conditions. Sad!

I thought the same thing and maybe things would’ve changed after all these years. It’s hard to make it out of that system. Glad you made it out as well!

yeah but those conditions warn and teach others like you not to go back. Its a deterrent. Thats what prison is. You should think about the conditions and be scared.
If you want nicer conditions then you and others can pay for it. Im not

What about the ones that are fasly in prison. And no one deserves these conditions, people don't treat there dogs and cats this way. It is very inhumane

After so many people on death row have been proven innocent, over policing in communities of low income or marginalized people has been purposeful, qualified immunity has protected murderers, police have proven to lie in court so bad there's a term for it... AIN'T NO ONE WITH A SOUL WHO CAN SAY "do the crime, do the time" or "prison isn't supposed to be comfortable". This needs to end. NOW! It persists because of GREED! Private prisons lobby politicians just the same as any other private sector. Our country is literally run by people who take money to allow inhumane practices and literal torture.

I did my best to get them books they could understand then got a GED program started I would love to go to tutwhiller and help change things for the better.

The whole south has terrible prisons. Louisiana has the worst Judicial systems but their prisons are somewhat ran ok. Ga,Sc,And Alabam are hands down the worst prison systems. Rapes and Violence are still very common eventho the rest of the country have cut those numbers drastically. Its a shame how conditions of prisons are not much better then they were 50 years ago.

My son is in one of these prisons, and he has only been in the one for less than a month and there has been 9 stabbings one was right next to him the screaming woke him up! The food is causing the inmates health to deteriorate. They are unable to consume it, but some have no choice and those are the one that have health problems. How do we change this? I understand it is prison but dogs in pounds eat better! You can feed people cheap nutrious meals that is safe for consumption. Come on they are people!

EricaYE6 . who ever done that study was trying to make the prison look bad, i done 16 years in the alabama prison system for 2 burglaries and a theft, my fault i done the time with out complaint , seen many stabbing and many gang riots. But that food is garbage, i worked in the kitchen in several prison camps and when you open the meat boxes , on the top in big bold letters says "NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION".

As an Alabamian myself I would be all for prison reform in my state, they should release nonviolent offenders or those with severe mental illness that need more care, reconsolidate the prison population to other facilities depending on the security level, and get rid of the corrupt people that are running the places. The whole system needs an overhaul. Hopefully one day we will have a society where crime will be a thing of the past and we won’t have an overcrowded prison system, but that is something that only society can accomplish.

Alabama and United States are safer today than they have ever been in the past. Yet we have record breaking prison populations. What we are seeing is not a crime problem but a judicial and government tyranny problem. We have let these private prison corporations write our laws for us. We need to take back control of our society and the first thing we need to do is hold the politicians and judicial system accountable for their crimes against society.

  • @trickemdevil4387

It's way worse than you think. Aside from the basic living conditions, food, medical, over crowding, etc. All of the correctional officers who where named in the sexual assault case were not fired, nor laid off, the department of corrections just relocated them to different facilities.
Every CO knows that if they get hurt at work it's a free ride, a job for life, one where you can get away with anything, and some go out of their way to cause this.
Slave labor, moving funding from one earmarked fund to the general fund by utilizing ACI "Alabama Correctional Industries" where they PAY incarcerated individuals 25 to 50 plus cents per hour to refurbish, build, furniture, mix chemicals, work on vehicles etc .
In this way they can transfer funding that's earmarked from one fund to another, clean it up, and use it how ever they want.
Drugs and cell phones are brought in to the prisons by the Correctional Officers,
It's the most corrupt organization I have ever witnessed, Family court runs a close second.

It's sad and ridiculous!! I have a best friend in a prison here in bama and a family member in Tut. Prison and every thing I've heard in last 22yrs has really made my blood boil! I know they might have done a crime but what they're put threw in these places isn't right! So damn far from it!! Like they said these people arent fed, very unsanitary conditions all the way around and no1 should have to be put threw what I've heard and seen! I understand some of the levels they've gotta take with certain inmates due to how they're acting whatever but everything else about these places is just ridiculous and something needs to be done now not later!! 🤷‍♀️ yes I said what I said!!

I 100% agree that if you do the crime do the time. If we really are trying to rehabilitate.. We should be treating these men and woman as we want them to treat others once they are released. If not I believe it would do our society better and be more humane to put them down as we would a rabid dog.. than to abuse them.. which makes us no better than them inmates.. actually it makes us worse.

Something I never understood is how you give life to someone who took a life ? Adding to overcrowding and possible future assaults on guards and lesser offenders, probation is another thing , if your first time drug offender in prison and you did your time without catching a serious charge then that was your probation Rights restored record wiped clean , there should be exceptions to that especially with today’s drugs fentanyl or tranq in any quantity should be a minimum of a year for addicts and the death penalty for dealers because your murdering people with that stuff .

I think inmates there for violent crimes should be housed separately from those of nonviolent crimes. That would not only keep inmates safer but also gaurds as movement of inmates. Those there for violent crimes can just kill each other off and save tax payers a load of money. I don't feel any pity for any inmate that has raped, killed, or physically caused harm or attempted to cause harm to anyone. They deserve nothing in my opinion as they lose that right the second they made that choice to do harm. Those that are there for non violence, do deserve a better treatment and rehabilitation efforts but the key is to force them to do the jobs worth a prison to give them a positive thing to di with their time and make the prison as self sufficient as possible. They should work gardens to grow food for prisoners, even raise some livestock, make their voting and So forth. The violence in prison is a result of inmates sitting doing nothing with their time but furthering their criminal activity in hours they don't get caught again. And just to explain I think those I speak of working is only those of nonviolent crimes and zero tolerance policy if they break a rule. Yes it can come with its own risks but if done correctly, it's doable and with no more change of inmates sneaking things to others. It exists as is.

It's people like you who have no idea about the things they speak on, nor have they ever reached out to try to make a difference, but are so quick to condemn.
