- I recently got a console for my 1965 Mustang from Kentucky Mustang. The kit didn't have any instructions so I went looking for anything I could. I only found one video that was helpful (link below) but I really didn't like the way they installed the door. So I made this video.
There are several kit options from Kentucky Mustang, this being the cheapest, and it's missing several pieces if you're installing it into a car that doesn't have a console. Some of the other missing pieces are curious as well.
The key part that's missing is the bracket that mounts to the transmission tunnel. The screws that attached the courtesy light at the back of the console are also missing. The clips that hold the wiring harness to the console are not included. And the screws that attach the springs for the console door are also not included.
But for at least $200 or more less than more complete kits I think this is still a good deal.

Once I get all of the rest of the parts I'll do a final installation.
Excellent Video ! Thanks
Hey, I happened to notice in your video, that your seats are on the wrong sides. The aluminum trim, should be near the door, so seat opens more inward, for back seat access. Helpful video, thanks.
Very interesting! I will swap them one of these days.
Thanks Dave, your video was a lifesaver, it was doing my head in as there are so many possible ways to install those darn springs! I used a couple of nice little chrome nuts & bolts to secure the springs via the loops that Mr Ford thoughtfully provides. Works a treat now. Thanks
Without the console you just installed, was it just the regular carpet? I have this console installed and I want to install a different one so I’m wondering if I can just take this one off and it will be the regular carpet?
Yes, regular carpet.
How did you install the front bracket under the carpet?
I think I didn't install it at all.
Good explanation of the door install. Has any one have installed the wood grain inserts in the console?
I am having great difficulty removing the paper / plastic from the underside of the insert. Does it actually get removed OR is it to be glued down with JB or Gorilla glue as someone has suggested?
Your missing bracket lifts the front of the console for air movement. You must cut a slot into the carpet and jute so the bracket can rest directly on the tranny hump steel.
Air to where?
Excellent console instruction tutorial. Thanks!
How do you secure the ash tray in the console? Mine is loose. The major supplier who sold it to me is clueless.
I"m trying to figure out the lighting for the stowage box. Mine has the hole in the back plate where the light fits and I see yours has a hole in the top. The new wire kits have the lights from the top but I'm not sure how the bulb is supposed to sit in the socket. Do you have another video showing when you wired it?
Unfortunately I don't think I do.
Woah, I noticed you have your seats switched around in the last clip. You've got the drivers seat on the passenger side and vise versa. Another tip is when you have the console in the exact right spot use a thin piece of wire heated up to poke through the screw holes and put a tiny burn hole in all the correct locations then take the console out and slightly more substantially burn the holes out a bit larger with a red hot piece of wire or a soldering iron. Drill the holes in the metal floor. Then put the console back in and install the screws. If you don't and you just try to drill or screw through the carpet it will immediately catch the material and start to unweave a line of material out of your carpet.
Good Video, How did you get the rubber bumpers for the ashtray installed? I keep snapping mine off.
Hmmm, I didn’t get the ashtray until several months later. And it rattles badly. So I need to do something.
Great video! Super helpful.
Thanks!
Great video. Thanks
Is this a new one or refurbished

The plastic in the console develops cracks. There is only one company that imports these consoles and they are all made of a fragile plastic that forms cracks. The company is not supportive and refuses to provide any replacement or assistance. The consoles are a major disappointment , frustration and headache.
Me falta la pieza cesa parte de Enmedio como puente con su tapa amigo usted no sabe dónde la venden gracias me gusta un programa como el de usted tan instructivo y explicito felicidades amigo
NPD most likely has it. Did you try them?
Would have really like to seen you actually install it instead of glazing over that aspect. From what I’ve read it’s a PIA
You mean the extremely boring part of putting in the car? This video was more about putting the kit together than the install.
Wait till you have to install the ash tray, The one the company provides is not proper and it sits very loose in the rear of the console. The plastic work the console is made of is third rate. Also, it produced cracks all around due to the improper low quality plastic used. Wherever there is a mounting hole on the hide, a boss is built in. But the boss causes the sides of the console to noticeably bulge out,. The Console is truly a piece of junk and a disappointment.
I have extremely low standards when it comes to Mustangs. They were built to a very low price point and the parts reflect that.
