I believe it may be harder to find alot of Haitian Americans interested in content creation at BuzzFeed, the same goes for Trinis and Jamaicans. I will add that there is someone at Buzzfeed with Haitian heritage who did a video on Griot. Ps Haitians are technically Latinos

    Fried plantain is not a snack IMO. It's mostly part of a meal.

      I truly cringe when people insist their pronunciation is the only acceptable one.
      People who eat it traditionally from many other parts of the world (e.g., Ghana, Nigeria) say "plan-tAYn" because that is the standard English pronunciation. "Ai" makes the AY sound in standard English (e.g., rain, wait, sail, chain). It's not wrong nor is the jamaican pronunciation wrong. Just different variations.

      I know because I live near the border of Mexico and my husband be craving sorrel and we saw it in the taqueria and in the grocery store called Jamaica. This made my husband upset because he is not Jamaican and he thinks Jamaica try to own everything Caribbean but he still buys it.

    When the lady said "it's nice when different cultures have different names for the same things" I literally thought of it right before it was said, that coconut cake she was talking of sounds like a coconut candy from PR , I know sometimes it shows as Dulce De Coco but it's like coconut with sugar cane in a ball, sometimes a block, or big round and a little bulky like a cookie, but it taste amazing. I wonder if it's the same! :)

All the snacks you mention are East Indian and are not consumed commonly by the other races or anyone on the sister isle , Tobago frequently or AT ALL except phoulorie . I then went on to agree that the snacks you mentioned were more authentically Trini than the ones in the video.

    All the English speaking caribbean says “plantin”. My mom (a Grenadian 🇬🇩) always used to say you don’t say CapTANE for Captain nor do you say mounTANE for Mountain so it must be Plantin” lol I stay correcting my friends. Cyah stand hearing planTANE

    I was so confused at first when they pulled out the caramel wafers. As a Scot, I never knew they were a worldwide export of ours. But I'm glad the rest of the world gets to enjoy them too :)

    Thought Kat was a dude, with twigs and berries but nope, female. Honestly the Jamaican snacks were not represented in this video. No banana chips. No lasco. No mango. No cheese but only the bun😂😂. No cheese triks (or however it's spelled). Hard dough bread and butter is a snack 😁😁. Cup of mint tea or milo or horlicks 🤣🤣. This wasn't ready yet

      Because I don't think sorrel is a huge deal for you guys the same way ginger beer isn't for Jamaicans at Christmas. The traditions continue but it isn't passed down in every family or to all generations.

      There are online stores for Caribbean snacks, ingredients and staples that some people may not have access to locally or outside of certain Caribbean communities and hubs in the US and Canada. And for fruit and vegetables: Fruitz and Rootz. Look into it on Google or try Chinese/Asian markets for familiar produce
