One of the things I really like about Rammstein is they are not afraid to not take themselves too seriously; and when the subject matter requires it, they can and do treat it seriously. Humor and insight, light and darkness; it is a balance.

Thanks Cybrax. Am I also correct that Edelweiß symbolize German itself to some extent? The Edelweiß Societies during the Nazi era were the youth resistance. (Some of us remember the song Edelweiß from Sound of Music as representing Austrian independence as well.) After the fall of the facists, the Edelweiß kept their rebellious ways and continued poking the eyes of authority. Let me know if I have that wrong.
@@EdwardGregoryNYC you are talking about the Edelweiss Piraten (Edelweiss Pirates), they were a counter organisation of the Hitler Youth, young adolescents who refused to be indoctrinated by the Nazis and yes, they even continued after WWII as a kind of anarchist group.
Some of them were even resistance fighters against the Nazi regime and four survivors were presented with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the highest decoration you can get in Germany.
And it is true that the flower is also important for the Austrians, it grows at the alps, which Germany shares with Austria.

This band to me is iconic. You can go back to 96 and enjoy the original stuff and with all the shit going on they can do fun songs like this that brings nostalgia of the good old days when we didn't have electricity.

Fyi: The language of Norway is Norwegian. When saying Norse it usually means old norse, aka what the vikings would've spoken.
Also, if you learn Norwegian you can most likely read danish and understand spoken swedish very well. The languages are all fairly similar. And you're both more than welcome to Scandinavia!

True, I've been living in Sweden for 15 years, and though hearing it spoken is still rather difficult to understand, but reading Danish or Norwegian works most of the time.
Norwegian is awesome! I‘m german and learning it currently, but I‘m not really good yet.

The neat thing about scandinavia is that, if you speak at least one of the tre languages (danish, norwegian/swedish) you can mostly communicate with all three. Also most ppl in all three countries speak very good english. Most don't need subtitles for movies and tv shows.
Plus a lot of the english words come from the vikings language - aka old norse. Like window, arm, egg etc.
Side note, Rammstein was one of the things that I used to teach myself german, when I was in public school. That and german tv, where I started watching german childrens shows (we didn't have any childrens shows back then in my native language) and progressed from there to get an A in german in my final exam in public school.
I love the crazyness of this song and how they did the video. But the meaning behind it, how some people are stubborn and ignorant & stuck in absurd fantasies and therefore completely blind for the beauty & fulfillment of all their wishes right in front of them, is extremely deep and important. Everyone of us has a Grandpa Till in our lives.
my interpretation on this: he desperately wish for big t*** , but that seems to be a metaphor, for the thing you wish... but he/we is/are blind to see, that we are surrounded by the things we deeply want.
We are too blind and ignorant to really recognize.

No need to be biased, they are a great band. I can't even understand them but I love almost every song they have put out, some bands are just so good they surpass the language barrier.

i was just wedensday estonia rammstein concert (66000 people ) and what a show. different when band performance Finland or estonia is that finland volume is only 7 when estonia music volume is 10. if i can choose i go listening estonia every band. thanx to great reaction and have wonderful weekend.

And it being a Rammstein video, you can't forget the flames & fire, which they had a little one.
I'd suggest some song from this new-ish band called Shadow of Everest. Maybe "Cyclop's eye", "The fungus among us" or "Castle in the sky". They have a really interesting sound and they definitely deserve more exposure (which is why I'd encourage anyone looking for new, inventive rock bands to check them out 👍). As for which Rammstein song I'd recommend for you guys, I say "Mutter" 😁

We speak Norwegian in Norway. Norse was spoken a thousand years ago or so. The closest you'll get to Norse today is Icelandic as we kind of "colonized" Iceland and the language stayed there. Modern day Norwegian is a lot different.
