- The Noldor's journey across the Helcaraxë, the "Grinding Ice," is one of the most harrowing episodes in Tolkien's The Silmarillion. After Fëanor and his followers betray Fingolfin's host by leaving them stranded in Aman, the remaining Noldor must choose between returning to Valinor in shame or forging ahead into Middle-earth.
Refusing to abandon their quest for vengeance against Morgoth, Fingolfin and his people brave the Helcaraxë, a perilous, frozen wasteland of jagged ice, freezing winds, and treacherous waters connecting Aman and Middle-earth. The journey is marked by immense suffering-many perish from the cold, hunger, and exhaustion. The survivors endure with grim determination, driven by pride, anger at Fëanor’s betrayal, and their unyielding desire to claim their destiny in Middle-earth.
After an untold period of hardship, they finally emerge into Middle-earth, their arrival marked by a grand and ominous display of defiance as they march under the stars to the gates of Angband, signaling the beginning of the war against Morgoth. The Helcaraxë forever scars the Noldor, solidifying their tragedy and resilience.

They forgot their elven winter hats - and thus they reach elven hypothermia :) ☃❄🥶
Yes, I dont think they spent a lot of time thoroughly planning the trip. Winter hats would have been a good idea. =)
Also, I just got to think, did Tolkien ever mention Polar bears, think not
That is probably right. I cannot recall any polar bears. But still they needed to eat something on their journey. :)
@@ShadowofMorgoth Morgoth had won if he deployed the Polar Bears... 😂
